When real DJs existed, there was no term/genre called alternative music. Alternative to what? The local college and University radio stations played all kinds of tunes and even had a show with six local acts a couple x a week called "the home brewed six pack." Some of those bands ended up becoming national and international touring acts to go on to play Lollapalooza and make the billboard charts. #belly #throwingmuses #vitalremains #smallFactory #combustibleEdison #jungledogs #SixFingerSatellite #zox #velvetcrush #guster #theAgents #gruvismalt #lightningbolt (those fort thunder shows were dope!) #SageFrancis_JoeBeats_NonProphets #bmor7

The great Matt Chamberlain on drums. Two years after this performance, he would become Pearl Jam's drummer, but only for about a month because he got a gig as SNL's house band drummer (although I have yet to see video of him drumming on SNL). He would then go on drumming for Fiona Apple, Tori Amos and other musicians, as well as drumming on the Wallflower's 1996 album Bringing Down The Horse in the songs 'One Headlight' and '6th Avenue Heartache'. I wish he still played like he did with Pearl Jam and Edie Brickell. His playing evolved to a weird style lacking the tasty chops you hear here.

Dang, I’m from Dallas and did not know that was Matt on drums! Thanks for that piece of info. As a bass player at heart, I’m remembering the great Brad Houser on that awesome fretless right there, just passed onto the next plane. RIP

@@rastapastrychief There is some footage from Brad & Matt's "Critters Buggin" project here on KZread. They had a cool connection & were a great rhythm section.

The group went with drums and a separate percussion player. Giving that bongo and timbales add on sounds. No piano, organ or synth sounds. Some Hammond organ trick sound playing would of livened things up here.
