Edgebanding with the Festool Conturo

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This video demonstrates the use of the Festool Conturo to apply 2 mm and 0.5 mm thick PVC edgebanding. The Lamello Cantex lipping planer, Festool MFK, and various edgebanding trimmers are also used. The table is a Barth 500V. Climb cuts are used rounding over the PVC banding to avoid chipping. Before using the climb cut method, be sure to understand it limitations and not turn it into a limb cut method.

Thanks James. That's what I keep telling my wife - you need the right tool for the job. That comment has bitten me several times in reverse with the sewing room - LOL. Steve

Hi Shilo. It is a Barth 500V. I made a video a number of years ago on it: kzread.info/dash/bejne/jG2VuNhuqtqsdtY.html Steve

I'm a hobbyist and considering the Conturo. Even for Festool this seems expensive. I do a reasonable amount of edgebanding and don't like the finish I get with cheepo banding/ironing. Is it worth it? Any other products you considered instead?

Before purchase of the Conturo, I almost purchased the Adamik edgebander but I don't think these are still made. I also considered many of the Adamik knockoffs which all seemed to garner a lot of bad reviews where the Adamik did not. The Conturo is overpriced and if that isn't bad enough, the adhesive is ridiculously overpriced. If I were in the market today, I would probably be looking at the CoMatic BR600. I would speak with Kyle at Shop Gear Inc. before buying one though as he is quite helpful. Here is a link: www.shopgearinc.com/products/BR600-Max-Contour-Edgebander-p494942129 Steve

Those veneer strips look very thick. Have you had a chance to use it with real wood veneer? Nice tool!

I have used this with 3mm PVC edgebanding around a 90 mm radius curve and it worked well. I ordered a 300' roll of 2mm sapele edgebanding and tried it with unacceptable results. The edgebanding continually cracked and sometimes broke as it entered the Conturo. I experimented with various shop made strips of hardwood and it need to be less than 1.2 mm thickness to work with the machine. It was a disappointment as Festool was not very forthcoming with that limitation when this machine was introduced. Steve

@@extremewoodworker That’s very good to know, appreciate the tool feed back. I’ll just keep doing it the “old school” way for now! Thx Steve.

The only drawback I see is you can't do an inside corner with that machine I've done laminate countertops and Cabinetry for years this can't be cost effective
