Edge of tomorrow is such a great movie, it’s a shame it was marketed so poorly and that people are barely finding it now
One of the best sci-fi action flicks ever. Fun fact, the guy that Emily Blunt pushes down when he calls her the Full Metal B*itch is her brother in real life.

No one is out there saying "You should like Edge of Tomorrow." Actually, most movie-watchers don't know about this film. It's more often than not overlooked. And yet most audiences that see this movie enjoy it. You might be one of the select few that have seen this movie and also dislike it.
Two great things about this movie: Big action hero Tom Cruise was happy to play an abject coward in the early parts of this movie. Not something we've seen before. Most Master Sergeant type characters in military movies are played from an emotional base of anger and hostility. Bill Paxton plays Farrell here from a base of pure joy and it is glorious to see.
@jasonscottjenkins

He wasn't an abject coward. I think his reaction to suddenly being told he was going in with the first wave was spot-on.
I love how this movie balances intense, dramatic and comedic scenes pretty seamlessly.

This is such an underrated sci-fi gem. I love it! Cage goes from a complete noob to a hardened war veteran but still manages to have a heart at the end of the story. The concept, the production design, the varying tones is all so well done. If you enjoyed this one, another Tome Cruise sci-fi movie that came out right around the same time was Oblivion. I think you would really enjoy that one. It also has an unexpectedly happy ending.

Yup, 91 percent Rotten Tomatoes and anyone who watches this movie seems to really really like it; totally underrated.
Emily Blunt was three months pregnant in this movie. She was chosen for the part and did not find out until filming was due to start. She told only Tom Cruise, as she was worried about being replaced, he told no one else, and he just made sure that Emily was never in any danger of being injured. So she kept the part, and he made sure anything possibly too dangerous was safe for her. She revealed it publicly much later. Tom may be a bit nutty, but no one should ever doubt his dedication to film and the people he works with. You work hard, he works harder and respects you for it.

Your reaction at 8:20 was priceless! Ive seen many react to this mocie, but no one quite as shocked and confused as you were. Bu okay, many also knew in advance, about the groundhog thing.
As near as I've ever been able to find, nobody is too sure of how many times Cage died before they finally killed the Omega, but most people put it in the area of around a year's worth of deaths, partly because Rita said she had the power for 300 days, and partly because Cage is nowhere near the soldier she is when he starts dying. So probably a couple of weeks before he figures out a way to get away from J Squad and find her, then maybe a week-ish of trying to actually get to her and talk to her, then all the dying during training, dying on the beach...I'm surprised he was still sane by the end!
I don't know if this was his last film, but "Edge of Tomorrow" is the last time I saw the great Bill Paxton. Since "Aliens" he has been promoted from private to sergeant.
Addie, I love your channel. You produce so much good content at such an awesome rate and variety. You choose such great films & shows to react to and this video illustrates my point so well. Edge of Tomorrow is one of my favorite Tom Cruise movies (along with the Mission Impossible series, A Few Good Men, Knight and Day & Minority Report). It also put me on to Emily Blunt. Glad you enjoyed it.
Addie! The look on your face at 8:20 is one I've never seen before. I've seen shock, surprise, and disgust. But at 8:20 you went from shock to "what in the world" in one second, and it was a lot of fun to see. It was the first time Cage woke up after being killed the first time by the Alpha. Like, what on earth is going on ... processing ... processing ... don't get it, keep watching. Enjoyed your reaction. :)
This is one of Cruise's best performances. If you liked him here you should also do War of the Worlds, it's super intense.

I feel Cruise's best performances tend to be when he's playing a very un-Tom Cruise character, such is the case here. Another good example of this is Collateral, he's a stone cold sociopath in that one and is legitimately unsettling, it's brilliant stuff

This movie did not get the recognition it deserved at the time, this along with the other Tom Cruise movie Oblivion. Two great sci fi classics. Proves one thing that the critics have no clue on how to rate movies.
The heli scene always gets to me. He spent so many days with her, he have fallen in love with her. Making their last day together count for every second, just broke my heart.
One of the best science fiction movies of recent years and seriously underrated.
So, Emilie Blunt was talking about filming this in one of her many interviews for the movie and she was talking about how those metal exoskeleton armor suits weight like 70 pounds. And at one point it was too much for her and she broke down in front of Tom and started "whining" and complaining that it was too much and she couldn't do it. She was nearly in tears with how hard it was to do. Tom, she says, just stood there for a few seconds looking at her, then finally said to her "stop being a f****en pussy". And it was so unexpected that she just burst out laughing, but it also gave her the push she needed, and she then went on to continue filming!

I've seen guys in actual combat get overwhelmed by all that was going on at the same time and a good slap really enhances the focus. Not the physical power of it but the fact that is disassociates the mind from everything it's trying to process. Like a spiritual reboot.

I remember reading that in maybe in Vanity... Cruise is a professional and started training 6 mos before shooting, Blunt was only 2 months. Truely grueling to "wear" 70 lbs every day, but it is a determined/war-like mind that pushes that aside and gets it done... and thats who Rita is in the comics too. She will kill anything in her way... including you.

The "stuck in a timeloop" theme is quite abundant in SF. But I think Groundhog Day and this movie are the best examples. Aside from Star Trek TNG, Buffy the Vampire Slayer also had one such episode, "Life Serial". Also the lesser known SF show "7 Days", which used some score music reminiscent of the German movie "Run, Lola Run".

It is always interesting to me how many things that MSG Farell says turn out to be applicable to Gage. Great heroes are forged in the crucible of fire... check. You will be baptized in battle... check... and you will be reborn tomorrow. Check! Also, his notion that gambling entertains the notion that our fate is in the hands of someone else... in this case, since Gage is the one that is being reborn, he gets an opportunity to make sure he gets a fate that is favorable... through readiness and discipline, in fact. Gage, indeed, becomes the master of his own fate at the end, when he finally wakes up in the helicopter! Great reactions, and commentary!

Blunt said recently she was all for a sequel of this with Cruise. They should do it. This doesn't get the hype it deserves. I have watched it a few times and even though I know the outcome its a good rewatch. :)
