In the video he mentions DIRECT LED (FALD) which means Full aray local dimming display . So this is essentially Edge led vs Full array display comparison.

@@PLANETWATERMELON Direct backlit and full array are different. Full array being much more expensive and usually comes with dimming zones.

@@genejen Thanks. I slowly have figured it out. There Edge Lit, Direct Lit which I believe is same as Backlit and them Full Array is Backlit with more lights and then OLED which is each pixel is a light. I think I got it. Just got LG A1 and hopefully its serves well and no crazy black crush I think it is called and or burn in. Otherwise sounded like best tv for movies at $899 price. I wanted to stay under $1k.

Thanks for a great video. Now I am not in doubt anymore. I am now looking for a direct led tv, to replace my broken Samsung 63” plasma TV. Thanks again!!!

What model are you comparing? Edge led with local dimming or not? Local dimming makes a difference

Which TV models are those? The difference in black levels shouldn't be so much between them.

@@ibzmav in my opinion yes. I would buy it if I didn't care about VRR (variable refresh rate) for PCs and game consoles that support it.

They are the same thing. FALD stands for Full Array LED Display.

@@BRENTREDRUM well you’re wrong, but okay have fun searching lol. FALD means that there is an array of LEDs behind the LCD panel... Direct Lit means that there is light directly behind the LCD panel. it's the same thing.

@@UltraHossBoss Full Array LED Display is like Direct LED only but there many more LEDs in each strip. This makes local dimming much more effective than in DLED (which has much fewer LEDs). If it is a trade off between ELED and DLED, the latter looks better (as shown in the video). FLADs are very expensive.

@@skbachoti I’m aware of the different lighting. Direct lit and FA use the same method of LED placement.

the only reason anyones using edge lit is because its cheap. The PC gaming community is getting absolutely boned because all the screens right now are Edge Lit instead of Direct.

Are laptop screens also edge led based? Because you can still see light all over the place when the screen turns black and a what,blue or red screen seens to look like cloudish.

It makes sense for most laptop screens to be edge LED, as the priority is to save energy. As for dektop monitors, there are Edge LED, Direct Led and even OLED screen

Thanks! Finally I got it. Edge led sucks. Have to look for direct led only -- blacks quality is close to plasma or oled.

full aray LED is beter than direct LED

At timestamp 0:15, the text says that Edge LED is not locally dimmable and that Direct LED is local dimmable. This is exactly the opposite of everything I read anywhere else. Full Array and Edge are locally dimmable, but Direct LED is not, it appears.

Oled is a different pair of shoes. Not comparable. Latency, color accuracy and picture expression are superior to any led backlight system. Mini led backlight has a wider color spectrum and a much higher brightness count in nits than oled, but local dimming causes very often a blooming effect. On mixed pictures of dark and bright scenes mini led tends to have washed out colors. The software can not perfectly adjust the dimming zones. Although at some colorful scenes mini led can beat oled in regard of color detail and expression. Other than that, oled is superior. The mini led qled tv-s have a nice picture. But most panels are VA, IPS qled tv-s are rare. No matter the latency is notable in comparison to oled. Many experts are throwing out rumours that a possible backlight system could be made where every pixel has its own backlight diode in qled systems. This could eventually be advanced over oled in regard of picture quality. But still questionable if any progress can be made to get near to oled in regard of latency.
