Just watched the video. Well done! The sluggishness you're encountering with the auto is because you have the wrong box fitted. The 2500 models, post the PI's production run, had the Borgwarner Type 65, which was far more responsive and less 'slippy' in take-up. My late father had a two-year-old 1977 2500TC automatic saloon and it took off better than my later purchased 2.5 PI auto saloon, simply because of the PI's Type 35 auto-box's sluggish take-up. When I had the PI converted to manual/overdrive, wow! What a difference. Super quick. But the TC and S models on a healthy Type 65 pull away quickly with an immediacy that won't be found on the Type 35 box. Kickdown is also very impressively responsive on a 65. The in-fills on the steering wheel were introduced on the late Dolomite models, well after Stag and 2500 production had ceased, but many of these Dolomite steering wheels have found their way into such. One pointer I must make. The urethane bushes people are fitting ruin the vibration isolation, as compared to the original rubber bushes. The ride compliance and tyre noise are adversely affected as a result. Is that a straight-through exhaust box you're using there, or a large straight-through backbox? They're not worth it as you get a drone sound, as could be heard in your video. These cars, when fitted with the correct exhaust system are very quiet indeed. So few are fitted with the correct exhaust system. Claims of increased performance are tenuous at best. The same goes for running on synthetic oil, as was advised by a 2000/2500 club specialist. All this does is push oil past the rings when accelerating hard which then fouls the plugs (Champion N9YC still a better result than NGK on these cars), blunting the performance and power. The 2500S had better handling and cornering than the 2500TC due to the anti-roll bar that was a standard fitted item on the S. Power steering was standard on both models but optional on the earlier PI. Remember to only use super unleaded with correct lead additive/substitute, or to get the valves re-seated with hardened valves, as per many TR5/6 owners' cars. A sports coil and electronic ignition plus Kenlowe electric radiator fan always a plus. If wanting to banish the rear axle Triumph 'Twitch on throttle let-up on bends, Toyota Supra drive shaft conversions work a treat, as does the General Motors 4-speed locked-final-drive (overdrive ratio benefit) conversion, as used by Stag owners for lower r.p.m. on motorway driving from that of the 3-speed auto.

The very best of luck with the car now that it's back on the road, I take it is a replacement engine you have in it now and not the original that let you down when driving it home from where you bought it. It sounds fabulous.

I think the switch you were activating was the heated rear window. Looks like a lovely example and a little bit of red pain in the bonnet / engine bay will make it look much more original. I know you painted it black when the engine was out, but they were never like that from the factory. You can see that from the 2500$ brucherei…. Happy motoring. Many congratulations, the car is looking great! I've followed the restauration since the start, when Eddie put a conrod through his block sidewall and left you all stranded at the wayside. So chuffed you did all this work (or had it done). Please don't sell the car any time soon - I want to hear that Triumph six cylinder roar after Alan has refitted the kickdown! People pay large money for the same engine in a TR6. Good to see "Trumpet Pilot" James back - maybe at some stage behind the wheel? All the best, or how do you say - "Arry the Stag!"

Hi,couple of comments. The red Hella switch is aftermarket from the '60-'70's.. Possibility Aftermarket for a Heated Rear Screen Rear Fog lamp or,a Switched Live to the Towing Socket for Split Charging a Caravan Leisure Battery. Also an idea would be to leave your Sidelights on for a couple of hours to allow the heat generated by the Panel light bulbs to get rid of the condensation in your instruments Check you have the correct Drive Gear in the BW35 'box if you feel the Speedo is reading incorrect.. Hope this helps...

The 2000/2.5/2500 are fantastic cars. The 2500S is getting extremely rare now. So pleased that you have revived and featured this car. The cylinder head on the "S" was internally different featuring improved airflow. Unfortunately "S's" were built at a time when restricting the fuel/air mix was foremost in sales as an arguably ineffectual way to reduce emissions. You can free the breathing considerably by rebuilding the HS6 carburetors including changing the butterflies for ones without poppet valves fitted and changing the needles from the factory "fat" items to TR7 ones for best efficiency and smoothness of power delivery. Hopefully that will help any S owners. Lovely car, lovely blog.
