‘Arry The Stag! is all about our passion for the Triumph Stag marque and other classics cars.
Indeed we'd say Stag and Classics are us!
We love all classic cars and are interested in them - leading with the UNY 49M Stag rebuild, but also featuring anything in the category that is of interest and relevant (wheels and wings)!
Our journey is about looking at the ins and outs of getting the car back on the road; including Engineering videos; Problems encountered; How we resolve them and what we’d say to others to do differently!
Also includes features on 'Arry's MG BGT (Stag support vehicle)
Plus, we will be featuring other Classic mechanical repairs/relevant to classic cars that we see on our travels!
If you have a Stag yourself (or a quality classic) you'd like to showcase, then get in touch and we will see if we can come to you to film your car and award you the 'King Bobble 'At!'
All the best - TR Tony; Trumpet (Pilot) Bob and of course 'Arry The Stag himself!

The stag was UK's effort to match a SL that looks like someone wished they bought a Bentley it's over the top o see one done on 70s farrari blue and inside was so much less which is more over the top
Owned an Unrestored 1979 Sprint for 24 years and I love it.
Love the car. In the day i really liked the 2.5 PI but they had some injection problems.
How much did is sell for?
My old man had a PI, many holidays in the UK in sweltering conditions with no air con. Best one going home from Falmouth back in 1981 when he raced an RS2000 off the lights in Cheltenham and my mum gave him a slap for being 'offensive' hahaha, how times have changed. He did beat it by the way.
Absolutely lovely car 🦄😍
On my Triumph 2000 I had many moons ago, I couldn’t fathom how to replace the aerial in the front wing went someone very kindly broke it, it seemed as though it had been fitted before the right wing was fitted, I ended up putting a new one in the rear wing.
Great video Tony ! - Greetings from Thailand - The colour combo with the black roof is spot on - Nice to see it's an auto too, a more relaxed ride ...Keep up the good work !
Thanks Dave - 'Appy Days!
You seem to have changed the instrument panel from what I remember. Originally Eddie S had a modified panel with extra instrumentation. As far as I know, all Triumphs were painted with the same colour as the main body in the engine bay. The black in your engine bay looks odd.
Hi Alan - you may be thinking of the first Saloon we had a couple of years ago that was too far gone to rescue in the end. All the best TR T
Hi TR Tony, you're such a hero for all the TLC you've given Eddie, I'm proud of you. That's a very personal thing to say, but I also love these cars and agree with every word you said, Triumph in the Sixties was a company to be proud of, especially their connection with Giovanni Michelotti, that genius. Karmann's final iteration of the Michelotti TR6 was very sensitive and successful, but with the TR7 I'm afraid Canley lost the plot. As a trainee surveyor, I used to get driven around the county in a colleague's 2000 Mk 1 (powder blue), so I know how refined they are. My mate at school's father had a 2.5 PI Mk 2 in white.
Very 'Appy Days!!
I wonder what happened with the first 2500 PI you bought as a project but moved on ? Glad you’re enjoying Eddie !
Hi John - we sold it on (and is on the Channel way back). The car was too far gone (rust) and so it went on to a new owner and the 2500 PI engine we had bought for it was sold on too to someone else. Head and heart hey?! All the best TR T

What is this Window in the back?
Excellent presentation Harry, perhaps next video a little slower in narration of cars shown would be helpful. PETER LINDOP.
Thanks Peter - will take that on board for next time, much appreciated. All the best
Been using Steve's belt driven pump here in Texas for ~8 years...my Stag loves it.

I have a set of Stag chrome wire wheels on my ‘66 MGB. They’re arguably the best piece of equipment off a Stag 😂
Wow
Front seatbelts were a compulsory fitment to all private cars first registered in the UK on or after 1st January 1965.
Really handy info ,, Cheers 😊
Watching from Australia 🇦🇺
Looks stunning. I was fortunate to own some years back a Downton tuned Stage-3 MGC GT. It sounded glorious and just showed what could be done to improve the original somewhat strangled engine.
She's a nice piece of work😂, don't drive it if the temp exceeds 20c
A top notch car!
Magnificent !! If only the Canley/Speke factory produced cars (in the dark BL days of the 1970's) could have had the quality and build as this.....
The Stag for restoration has a Rover engine
just found this - great emotive monologue for a great British classic :) I adopted my Mk2 nearly half a century back when I used to drive it everywhere from my Northants home. Regular trips to Brands Hatch (used to practice racing FF) Lake district, Dales, Wales, Cotswolds..... Life changed somehow (maybe I just became very busy with my company)......and my gorgeous baby has languished in a dry garage for around three decades.... The lighter of the browns (which didnt seem odd in those days) with tan interior - manual o/d Has had weeping head gaskets most of its adult life - having had engine rebuilt immediately after purchase, I was not in a position to do it again - added an aux fan, kept temp below red, near normal and continued to motor Totally original and hopefully no serious corrosion - front valance front arch lips, front wing bottoms are evident - original paint. Door shuts, engine bay, under boot pretty much like new. Interior too, though recently the seat foam bolsters have started to decompose. Hard top like new. Hope to start addressing recommissioning before the year is out :) Anyone know of a tool that fits down behind thick rad to crank bolt for hand turning? - 1/2" gap - prefer not to take rad out yet but would like to try and move oil around engine - looks ok inside oil filler If I am lucky enough to escape an engine rebuild and gearbox + chassis ok...I can probably manage. - Arthritic pensioner on State pension now....! I fell in love with the truly organic unique engine note Would like to upgrade cooling and 1/2 shafts. - Thinking of raising expansion tank and adding an auxiliary electric water pump - perhaps set to engage on the lower temp of a dual temp water temp switch, aux fan on higher setting (plus manual) Obvious bits needing attention seem to be: check over for structural integrity petrol pipes water pipes thorough waterways flush all bushes dampers + springs recon brakes cluitch cylinders recon brake master recon brake flexies - upgrade to braided and check hard lines tyres + swap to alloys repair rusted areas and have paintshop blow in areas with original enamel paint change all fluids Am I on track? Anyone know any enthusiasts near Kettering interested in helping with the project - I shall never sell her, so she will be loved and cherished in my dotage :)
This has to be as near to perfection as I've ever seen in a restored Stag. 👍

The Triumph Stag was my favourite car as a kid in the 70’s I only remember seeing it in yellow and black material soft top I remember Dennis Waterman🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 driving this car in the New Tricks TV series back in the 2000’s And for me the most famous one was in Diamonds Are Forever 👍 👍 🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴🏴😃😃❤️❤️
Good morning, yesterday I take off the hardtop with a friend and put on (is this right ?) the softtop. I made it like you show it and it worked 👍 the softtop is a little bit, in germany we would say, "in die Jahre genommen ". Is it expensive to replace it?
Hi Frank - thanks for the posting. Sure there are replacements you can get, but you may be looking at anywhere around £1,500 GBP or more. If it's a little tired then the Renovo Kit can work wonders and bring it back to fresh. If the frame is bent/damaged, then it may be worth reparing. I know Criag at www.staghoodfactory.co.uk/ He's a very good Guy and specialises in Stags. You can call him and discuss if you want! All the best and let us know how you get on. @@ArryTheStag thank you, I will check it... I will write you, when I'm on my way to GB...
Nice one TR T, you're a gent:. All the best Bob
Cheaper alternative to the German car it tried to compete with the Mercedes R107 300SL. Once the Stag is properly sorted it can prove to be very reliable including parts which are much cheaper but as an investment I went with a 1986 300SL. I agree the Owners Club is the way to go to research these cars.
Aladdin's cave! I'll take the green one, (if only).

FYI I understand that most "Leather Cloth" upholstery is made with a product called "Koskin".
May I ask you where your base is? I am going to visit Cornwall in August. And I hope I can get one on Wednesday. So I think I will have a lot of questions during a cup of tea or Coffee;-)

@@ArryTheStag hello today I brought the stag home. It was a great cruise. But I drove it with a hardtop. So I am looking forward to ride it open again 😃👍 I will write you a Mail when I will be in Plymouth. Maybe you have time when I will be there. But I think I will come with with my normal car, not with the stag 😉
I was exactly like that until last week. After 50 years of waiting, I am now the proud owner of a 1971 Mk1 in white with black interior, and I absolutely love it.
Fantastic news Robert - send us some pics and a bit of background and we can feature it in www.arrythestag.com/saturday-sockets (sign up too for more fun at the weekends!!). All the best and very 'Appy Days!! TR T

@@ArryTheStag I need some advice on how to put the manifold back without disturbing the heads, Anything? 🙏
It's a very big question. There are many bodged up shiny modified Stags at 15K but in reality generally needing total strip & rebuild costing in excess of 40k to make a proper car. There is the odd one available if you are lucky at 20k ish but to buy the best should be paying nearer 30k. Still ridiculously cheap compared to mad Ford prices (basically tin box puddle jumpers, with a racy engine) or the equivalent E Type or SL double plus plenty.
Stunning moter hope whoever got it looks after her as much as the previous owner, beautiful example of a gorgeous car
Hello TR Tony, Thought I’d ask you if you know of anyone that does the wood trim kits for the stags center console. The center console that surrounds the gear gate and window switches is starting to wear and I’d like to get it replaced. Are you familiar with any companies that make them?
Hi Evan - I think we have already emailed. But just in case we haven't try the Guys at www.gdkveneering.co.uk/ Or if you prefer a stick on version then these are good www.walnutdashcompany.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=36 All the best TR T
I had done 180k in my Stag in hot AUS summers went across the country twice and finished 3rd in a tarmac classic rally and still running the original engine. Must have got a good one it was the last production run. Just meticulously maintained and everything is fine. 😂 never had an issue. 👍 Actually one issue that I did suddenly developed is smell of fuel in the boot once full. Replaced everything with new even the fuel tank, but still have the smell. Drives me crazy. 😀
I am thinking about buying a stag from 72. Should I buy it? Would you recommend it? Imagine this question is from a very good friend...;-)
As ever, it's what the car is like of course, but yes I would recommend a Stag from 1972 (or any other year of course!) Check out the survival rate here www.stag.org.uk/the-car/ And join us on a weekend for more insights www.arrythestag.com/saturday-sockets All the best TR T
Great story… a very sensible practical solution for the car’s running gear. Quite an appropriate engine for the Stag really… seems like this is a variant of the old GM / Buick V6 from decades ago… based on a V8 so a 90 degree cylinder angle and an offbeat growl / snarl a bit like the original Stag V8. I must confess I do have a soft spot for Wolfrace Slotmag alloy wheels on a 70s car… delightfully tacky throwback to the 80s customisation scene ! My mate Colin had them on his little Mk3 Midget ! 😊
Well done. The holden rear suspension was developed from copying the triumph 2000/ 2500 suspension.
Never knew that David - thanks for the insight! All the best Kind regards TR T
I do regret selling my Triumph 2.5pi it was an early 150bhp, manual with Overdrive, they were a big step up from the twin carburetor models
Well done , big milestone getting the engine in and running.
😊
