I'm not an Eddie fan by any stretch, but if you listen to what Eddie said he did answer the question. He said if a supporter was in financial trouble he could ring their club and they'd sort it out (i.e. refund their money). What Eddie was trying not to do was create a situation where everyone starts demanding a refund which would likely be the end of some clubs.

This was a loaded question. If he had answered "yes" then we'd have a massive rush of members pulling their money and a lot clubs would fall over. If he had answered "no", then he is made to look like a greedy S.O.B. Eddie was trying to explain if you have financial hardship, call your club and sort it out, (no different to calling the power company or phone company if you are not going to make the due date and sort out some type of arrangement), and organize a refund. But what he was also trying to say is if you can keep supporting the clubs financially with memberships, please do. I could imagine the editing if he had said yes, they'd (nine9) would have only played that and left out the rest of the message out. Eddie was screwed from the start.

With the way the AFL is setup currently and geared the way it is I would have to say Eddie has actually answered the question properly and coming from his position I would be giving the same answer

Members make a club, well if they want out let them have it. No debate.

Okay then fair enough, then increase the grand final tickets to all the members only. No corporate etc, not just around 16,000 for each team roughly. If the members are such an important group for clubs and clubs need them then do it simple. That’s one suggestion.

The health of people is bigger than any sport. Afl and Eddie and anyone else just be told

Sounds like he will give people their memberships back but he just doesn't want to state it directly on television because he knows it could lead to a sudden influx of people asking for their money back. Because he knows the people who desperately need their money back won't need an invitation to ask. He just doesn't want a large chunk of the members all asking for a refund at the same time. I don't really blame him but he could have executed it better cause dodging the question just makes him look bad.

There is a straightforward answer. Its either yes or no. Membership contracts would not have covered corona virus or the cancellation of the season. You will find that Australian contract law says that if you dont provide a service someone has paid for, they are entitled to a refund by law. What the clubs and facebook pages are doing (both NRL and AFL) is trying to shame members who are asking about possible refunds. ItsEddie big bucks to not worry about a few hundred dollars but i know members were both bread earners now have no job. Its a bit rich when people on hundreds of thousand of dollars a year in their Toorak mansion ask people who dont know if they will have food on their table or a roof over their head in a couple of months time not ask for much needed money back

@@seanvda3612 you will find that Australian consumer law will override certain terms and conditions. If you do not provide a service someone has paid for, you are going to be entitled to a refund if you want one. The clubs know this and are just hoping members wont ask for a refund

Instead you say we are all in this together and will look after them, does that mean no you wont refund their money but try helping in another way? You created this storm Eddie, I agree with you members and clubs need to stick together and plead after answering correctly what was asked for member to stick with the club but to go straight to the plead and avoid answering made you look selfish. I agree with your thoughts about it all Eddie but you need to answer the actual question not dodge around it like a politician, clubs are hurting we understand but members are hurting also and some will find themselves suffering from mental health issues because of this epidemic which frankly I find a more important issue than the survival of a football club.

I'm not Sure why TJ is so much of a smartarse to Eddie ? I'm a tiger's supporter. And I fully understand what Eddie is saying !!!! Caro is just a rotten cow who loves all the attention? I can't believe I'm saying this but I agree with Eddie on this if everyone asks for there money back the clubs would be in a difficult position and that's the last thing we need at the moment. To be honest footy is the only thing keeping me sane.

Really interesting point Eddie brings up, that a membership is an investment in the club, not a transaction where you give money in retun for goods and/or services. I'm not sure every member thinks the way Eddie is hoping they do. I'm sure some do, and I'm sure many do to a degree, but a membership is a product and the clubs (through no fault of their own) are not providing the product.

RICHMOND SUPPORTER HERE: I agree with Eddie on this one but let’s call a space a space. He didn’t answer that question because the answer may be ‘NO’. And that’s understandable. What Eddie probably should have said more clearly is that it’s possible to get your money back but on a case by case basis as the club also has to safeguard the sport with all its employees. Would any supporter really want to come AFL 2021 without a team? Of course not. If the club was ask last year by some members to get their money back, they probably wouldn’t hesitate. But this year is like none before.

Better question is why aren't people asking for refunds from the government which run into the hundreds of billions of taxpayers money that has been waisted by various governments for decades. They are only giving out more "borrowed" money for which Australian taxpayers will pay off themselves for decades. Where are the trillions of missing / waisted taxes when Australia needs it?

If a member wants their money back then give it back. If they don’t ask for it then keep it. End of story! Clubs can’t tell me what my money is good for when they can’t provide the service I paid for. Why is it good for them and not for me?

Come on Eddie. Stop making it an emotional decision. Emotional decisions are the kind of ones where people act stupidly. Let people make informed decisions. I say that as an Essendon member who (currently) will not be asking for a refund.

Eddie states "the football club is owned by the members, not private industry". It's a pity the breakdown of Grand final attendances don't reflect that! Nothing worse than seeing so many neutrals on the one day that matters the most to the two competing clubs.

electricity or footy membership... which one is the average punter keeping to get through this? People with stacks of money in the bank gathering more interest in a month than the average annual wage don't and never will get it.

I have watched this show for many years because of her. I’m not particularly an Eddie fan either but at least he spoke with some common sense. It was very hard time back then! I’m glad we all got through it. Thank good we have channel 7 and fox. Haven’t watched any channel 9 footy shows for years.

Nah I will be glad to take my money back, just proves all about money and not the game, minimum wage isn't worth looking at to these people pathetic. Why should I help when these players get paid to do what they're meant to do but put half arse efforts in, the game has changed way to much and it's all about protecting the player when it's a contact sport, umpiring is pathetic they don't cop anything for their dispicable decisions and imagine having so much money but can't even get better cameras for the goal review, this sport has gone way down hill than what it used to be, not the game I grew up and loved.

There has been plenty of money earned over the years it all Australian businesses (footy clubs included) but it all goes to fat cats, administrators and no doubt connected consultants, rather then put some aside for raining times it is in personal bank accounts, private realestate, wives walk-in robes and high flying memories. When the going is good, take the money, when the going gets hard, raises taxes (memberships will go up) and ask for a bailout from the government.
