"Before I go, I just want you two to know something, alright? The supercop story... was working. Okay? It was working, and you guys just messed it up. Okay? I'm trying to figure you guys out, but I haven't yet. But it's cool. You fuck up a perfectly good lie." Fun Fact: Film debut of Damon Wayans and Alice Cadogan. Gilbert R. Hill, a real-life Detroit Police Department Homicide Detective, played Inspector Todd. Hill later served as President of the Detroit City Council. Projection Headline Fact: During his tirade at the Beverly Palms Hotel, Axel (Eddie Murphy) pretends to be writing an article called "Michael Jackson: Sitting On Top Of The World" for Rolling Stone magazine. In real life, Playboy ran an Eddie Murphy article with the same "Sitting On Top Of The World" subtitle. Double Assault Fact: The mansion used in the final shootout between Axel (Eddie Murphy) and Maitland (Steven Berkoff), the former Harold Lloyd estate in Beverly Hills, is the same mansion seen in the final shootout between Matrix and Arius in Commando (1985). Coincidentally, both heroes were trying to rescue somebody named Jenny (Lisa Eilbacher) in that mansion in their respective films. What Script Fact: Eddie Murphy, John Ashton, and Judge Reinhold improvised most of their comic lines. Literally hundreds of takes were ruined by cast members, actors, or the director laughing during shooting. During the "super-cops" monologue, Ashton is pinching his face hard and looking down in apparent frustration. He is actually laughing. Reinhold put his hand in his pocket and pinched his thigh really hard, trying to prevent himself from laughing.

I am so glad they went down the comedy route with it. I read what was planned, it would have just faded as a random action cop film. Instead since i was 7 years old (over 37 years) it's been one of my favourite films.

That tough Detroit police inspector who was Axel's boss really was a tough Detroit police inspector. The casting people had encountered him and decided they couldn't find an actor for the part as good as he was. His name was Gilbert Hill and he later was on Detroit's city council and ran for mayor (he didn't win). He wanted everyone to know that in real life, he didn't yell or swear at his subordinates. I saw the movie when it was released, and I could tell immediately he wasn't an actor. No actor could radiate that kind of authority. Paul Reiser plays a character like Jeffery -- peculiar, talkative, and annoying -- in the movie Diner (1982). It's worth seeing.

Foley should have put all the money he made into fixing up the Nova. I wished it was the 1970 Chevy Nova SS with the 396 rated at 375 horsepower with the hood scoop and hood stripes.Steve McQueen in Bullitt made about the same amount of money and he had the best car in the movies,a 1968 Ford Mustang GT 390 Fastback. That's my opinion.

13:59 Eddie Murphy improvised the supercop bit. Taggert(Ashton) and Rosewood(Reinhold)were trying not to bust up laughing. Ashton was covering his face so to not screw up the scene and Reinhold was pinching his thigh to keep from laughing. 16:42 check out “Norbit” and “The Nutty Professor” he played multiple characters as well as a woman. 23:39 Judge Reinhold just gets better as Billy throughout the series. They did a great job building the character and can’t wait to see what they do with the 4th Beverly Hills Cop movie this summer.

I can't believe you said that Jonathan Banks tried to look tough but failed 😀This is Mike Ehrmantraut from "Breaking bad" and "Better call Saul" himself we're talking about here! You don't get tougher than that, he makes Jason Statham look like Tom Green 😀 Lisa Eilbacher was in at least one more pretty cool movie in the late 80s: "Leviathan", an underwater horror that was a preemptive attempt to cash in on the trend everyone was expecting "The abyss" to start (it didn't, in the end: "The abyss" is a classic today, but was a late bloomer then). Pretty clichéd, but entertaining, and with a whole heap of good actors to boot: Peter Weller, Ernie Hudson, Richard Crenna, Hector Elizondo, Daniel Stern, Meg Foster and Amanda Pays. Check it out, if you haven't already 🙂

This was my first rated 'R' film & I wasn't 'R" age. We bought tickets for "Martin's Day" & snuck ourselves in - such rebels. I think Axel was what Chris Tucker was trying to be in Rush Hour, except without the excessive volume. I wish Murphy had been in more films like this. He really pulls off the cocky cop very well, while still seeming believable, charming, and cool. He actually seems like a guy you wouldn't mind hanging out with, rather than someone that would quickly get on your nerves. The second one is definitely worth seeing. Some people actually like it better than the first. It's a bit different. It "Changes" the story - for better or worse. The third one... It evolves the story. In some ways, it's like Ghostbusters Two. It evolves things in a way that makes sense, but maybe isn't the easiest to swallow. It's the weakest chapter - confirmed. Compared to modern stuff, it might just be worth it. It's not awful.

In THAT scene they SHOW you why Foley is amazing as we the audience, see in real time him realize what is going to happen and deploy himself and Taggard to foil the Crime before it ever happens. If you felt that Lethal Weapon was missing a comedic element, then I highly recommend watching Lethal Weapon 2. Because Riggs and Murtaugh are already partners and friends, they have more time to devote to the action and comedy. And Riggs is far less depressed in the second movie, his friendship with Murtaugh having helped him get over the emotional devastation of his wife's death. So its far more light hearted than the first movie was.

I wouldn't compare BHC to the first Lethal Weapon film because that's not a comedy. It's an action-drama. Granted, it became more and more light as the relationship between the lead characters grow, but its foundation is dramatic due to the suicidal nature of Riggs. BHC is a flat-out action-comedy. Outside of the context of comedy, it's arguable which movie is better as a whole.

Great reaction again! This is getting a bit repetitive saying this, not that i'm complaining, but after recently seeing your reactions to two movies i really love, A Fish Called Wanda, and Police Academy (and subscribing), yeah this is another i love, my 6th favourite movie. I think i first saw it as a kid on it's UK tv premier over Christmas in about 1987, and have loved it ever since.

Thanks for the reaction. One of the all-time great comedies and comedians in one shot. My next recommendations include a comedy too: 10) Black Dynamite - a mock Blaxploitation film. Incredibly underrated and funny af. 11) Cloverfield - Point of view horror about an invasion in NY 12) Rec - Point of view horror about an infection at a hotel.

  • @boomieboo

    11 ай бұрын

@@ItsTaraAnn Ah ok. Take your time then. I think you can handle Cloverfield sooner than later as it's more of a Godzilla like horror. Maybe horror isn't even the best name for it as it's more like a thrilling creature feature. " Rec " on the other hand is scary. I won't lie. In fact, it's one of the most harrowing horror movies I've ever seen as it's shot in first person POV so it feels like you're in the story as it plays out. So you might have to sit close to your significant other for that one. But I believe in you so hopefully you'll see it soon. Maybe to celebrate Halloween? Rec is horrific but damn good. I think it'll be like being afraid of a rollercoaster but riding it anyway for you. You'll feel proud and thrilled you got through the incredible ride after. Promise. Until then, please check out "Black Dynamite". Guaranteed hard laughs in it.
