Hello, I’m a jazz drummer and professor who did like Ed’s educational philosophy of drums. “Do not fit the drums, but fit the drums to yourself.” I was going through a rough patch on my drumming in 2000. On March 30, 2000, I sent a videotape of my performance. Ed Soph's good feedback has greatly influenced my drumming. Thank you Ed Soph.

Ed Soph, not only a great player (Woody Herman, Clark Terry....etc). He can explain, demonstrate, inspire, challenge and encourage his students. Ed made us aware and open to all musical possibilities! Thanks Ed from all of us who came across your path on our journey!!!!

Ed Soph has such an amazing touch on the drums, I've never heard anyone that could play so quietly that had such great separation and projection. Magic!

I used to listen to Ed Soph back in the early 70's when he was with Woody Herman on the Giant Steps Album. I wore out the record learning his style on La Fiesta. I actually saw him live at the Opera House in Macon Georgia, somewhere around 72 or 73. His hair was much longer then. I was playing in the Air Force Band at Robins AFB in Warner Robins Georgia back then.

Thanks for doing this! Ed is one of my most favorite drumemrs. Really hoping that I get to take a lesson from him in person and also see him play with a band someday.

I was one of the unfortunate drummers who attended the 1985 London UK summer school where he came upon Mark Mondasir! And he’s right that Mark didn’t even own and could not afford to buy a drum kit and practiced on pillows. Mark I remember as being very approachable though quite shy and keenly interested in my Steve Gadd cow bell and Tom Tom attempts! I remember Ed came into my small band and stayed just a short while! I forgive him totally! I now see how Ed literally travelled the entire world hoping to find such talented drummers as Mark went on to become…x
