What I mean is, if you tell a guy that he has an amazing build (ie; muscluar definition / skeletal frame / whatever you're attracted to) or tell a girl that she has an amazing body (ie; hourglass figure / abdominal definition / whatever you're attracted to), WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL??

Great work from the producers here. While they never abandoned the simple idea behind the song that started everything, they added enough stuff as well over it so there´s movement feel which avoids getting you bored while listening. Whenever I see the "making of" big pop hits like this that sound simple but at the same time really well produced and perfect in their own way, the hand of a spot on producer helping with those important details is always there. (And not only people are capable of grasping them at first listen). Good video!

I honestly think that the only reason this song is as big as it is right now is solely because it’s Ed Sheeran. His name is known internationally. He’s big. If this was made by any other artist just a tad bit less known, it wouldn’t have been as big. The intrumental itself is alright but I don’t find it catchy at all.

The Real Dirty Dan. Well, there might be some of that as well. If I´upload a song like this on my music channel it´ll surely won´t have this impact :) , but the media promotion around these guys exist because their songs ARE capable of being hits. If you want to look at it in other way, what makes a record company, media, etc. to choose this track to be promoted and boosted and not others? They somehow might see beforehand they can have a good impact when they are released (Althgough maybe not as big as "Shape Of You" ended up being)

Brian G. Well, music is, as you may know, quite subjective and if you dont feel the majority it is okay but you shouldnt start judging the music. And i disagree that the success is just reasoned with eds fame, neither is every song of him an enormous hit nor was he born as a famous singer and songwriter.

Ha hA, did you say intelligent? Please refrain from using words you have no concept of. What is Mozart, Bach, Jazz, John Williams, then? This cradle stuff 3 cords and 4 note melody shows what low standard humans have now. This isn't music, it's seduction noises for mating dances., that is why millions love it, having no idea what actual music is. THen, Hypocritically saying they respect others while promoting and loving this music that objectifies women and reduces relationships to mere sexual vulgar encounters, laking in any form of fidelity or moral character. We needed another "Song" to tell us that men look at women's bodies. There are much better humans still today, just the millions are not interested in promoting those ones!

@Sean Callahan Not everything is made to be complex. You can't expect every song to have weird chord progressions and cadences and be written in complex time signatures.Sometimes songs are made to be simple and simplicity doesn't inherently reduce the value of any piece of art....And yes, while the song structure might be generic and the theme of the lyrics might have been used a million times before, this song adds a new perspective to the table and having more perspectives is never a bad thing. Moreover, almost every song regardless of genre has something unique to offer.Even when its a song where you hate 90% of the elements, there might just be a background synth sound or a guitar buried in the mix that can inspire you.
