My life is f***** because of these "students" and TFW's. Moved to Edmonton because it's the only place I could afford a condo despite knowing no one and leaving all my friends and family behind. I literally got pushed out of my province because I can't afford the rent. Now in Edmonton every job is filled by a "student" from Punjab and wages are ridiculously low. Why pay a Canadian a living wage when some kid from the backwaters of Punjab will do it for $15 and can afford to because they'll accept living in deplorable conditions in bunk beds. Not to mention once they infiltrate a workforce they only hire their own. I cannot find decent work here despite having a good resume and an education. People are going to start revolting. The unemployment rate is rising. Young Canadians futures have been stolen. Crime rates are going to rise to unforeseen levels. The news stations in Canada are completely out of touch with how bad things are and how angry people are. It's the same when you sit in a room full of boomers. They are trying to trick themselves into thinking it's all going to be okay. Things aren't okay.

Rapid population growth has weakened our standard of living, not maintained it. Not sure why BNN anchors keep repeating these pre-2015 timmigration talking points when the negative economic impacts are so obvious.

Purchasing a stock may seem straightforward, but selecting the correct stock without a proven strategy can be exceedingly challenging. The strategies are quite rigorous for the regular. They are mostly successfully carried out by pros who have had a great deal of skills/knowledge to pull such trades off.

It's not hard to fix our productivity crisis. We just need employees to have some real time off for themselves to look forward to. Even McDonald's workers in europe get 4 or 5 weeks off, so why are we not doing the same so people can reduce burnout? Maybe it can be managed according to industry, but i think chronic burnout is destroying the canadian economy. Just my opinion.

In one generation, housing in Canada has become a luxury only available to the upper class. These guys have no idea how severe the political backlash (including extremism) will be when you render an entire generation homeless. These clips will be looked at in the future the same way we look at clips of the roaring 20s before the Great Depression, demonstrating how out of touch the capital owning class was with the majority.

Immigration over the last few years has done nothing to improve the Canadian society. Yes we need steady immigration to grow as a nation but the approach the Liberals have taken has been a complete disaster. It has completely quashed the chances of many Canadian born millenials to ever afford to own their own home and it has completely bogged down our infrastructure including our ability to get healthcare which we pay an arm and a leg for in taxes. Canadian born high school and college students now can't even get part time jobs now because they are all taken by "international students" and their spouses.

Ill speak for myself and say I could have had more children but I chose not to because of affordability. I grew up with fk all, I was always at my grandmothers or dayhomes because my parents worked all the time to keep a roof and I didnt want that for my child. So thank for punishing Canadians who chose to do it finaically smart while NOT put the financial stress of starting a family on tax payers...like most if not all of these immigrants are doing!

It is the poor who usually have more children. The indigenous and immigrant population are having more children now but as their wealth increases, that will slow too. Globally the population is decreasing almost everywhere. Canada is still good in attracting immigrants. Other areas in the world are not so good eg Japan and soon China

Arbitrary immigration targets are simultaneously increasing demand and suppressing wage growth. There are better ways to control immigration. I would suggest demand based approach with some guard rails in place. For instance, I would require all educational institutions to provide housing for international student (at least 50%). Businesses should be required to provide accommodation to all temporary/seasonal workers on top of the minimum wage. In order to hire foreigners employers should be required to prove that they are paying enough to afford housing in the region (market cost of accommodation is less than 30% of salary). Accommodation for refugees should be secured before bringing them to the country from around the globe. No accommodation = no permits. It would limit demand and prevent wage suppression.

I don't think 7% is anywhere near what the peak will be. Maybe if you assume pop growth will stall. The NPRs are countering the govts moves in real time by applying for PR or refugee status. Which leaves them in the country for years during the slow process. Taking this into account my estimation of peak unemployment is closer to 10% by this time next year. Running projections based on the govt doing a 100% efficient job of their policies is foolish.

Excessive immigration has distorted the economy in so many ways. It is probably the biggest economic screwup in ages. Excessive immigration has distorted housing, wages, infrastructure requirements, and health care amongst other areas. The end result is that we have become addicted to "population growth", relying on it to power the economy. But like all addictions there are huge downsides, including withdrawal pains. Better to take the pain now (sharp reduction in immigration) and keep the pain to a minimum, otherwise the economy and the environment will continue to suffer even more. A sustainable aim (especially with ai about to devastate employment) would be to look to a achieve a relatively constant population with immigration restricted to those under 40 years old. That way we try and fix demographics without stressing infrastructure and further damaging the environment.

Keeping immigration below 40 misses an important point about age. I'm a 43 year old immigrant, UK. I came 20 years ago. I brought my parents over 10 years ago. They brought their mothers last year. You can restrict the age of the initial immigrant but we tend to bring people with us.

When the government sets immigration levels as a percentage of the total Canadian population, it considers the entire country's population. However, most immigrants tend to move to major cities in Ontario and other provinces, putting a strain on public infrastructure in those regions.

They've tried that in lots of countries. It doesn't work. Money is one factor, but if mothers stay home with those kids, they aren't paying into cpp. Widow benefits aren't enough to survive on. That's just one of the calculations couples make when deciding to have children. I can give you a list. We're dealing with one of the most educated populations on the planet. It's not so simple as post-war era to convince couples to have more kids.

Handing out funds to refugees and immigrants that far exceed ordinary welfare or child support to canadian citizens, all the while inflating costs of living through poor policies is easily replaced. If we were helping young people with housing, child care, healthcare, education and job placement aid, rather than giving free room and board to non-Canadians, I am sure the demographics could be changed to a different skew. Money talks and bullshit walks. There is always a number that would make young people consider larger families. Its math.

I want to apologize for thinking small and writing last post. We are a resource rich vast country that could easily accommodate millions of immigrants. The lack of industry, commercial development, government over-regulation prevents Canada from enjoying a fantastic standard of living for citizens and immigrants. We are bigger than USA in size but 1/10th population and GDP. Trudeau government has crippled the economy and local governments think small with their developments. Bottom line .. I want every young and old Canadian to have it easier to have a great life as I have. I want them to do better than me regardless of politics, race, gender. It is sad to see how hard all Canadians young to old are struggling in a rich country like this. Hopefully it can change for the better.

There is no perfect approach, but there are a LOT of ways to do this poorly.

Its not up for debate, Temp residents need to stop being Temporary and become former residents. Let kids and seniors have entry level type jobs.

When people come to Canada and assist in the economic growth there's no problem. People coming to Canada should be first be fluent in English like it's their first language and second they should be coming to create jobs. Unemployment is a big problem in Canada and should reduce that problem first. We don't need too many people in the service sector but do need more people in the health care system. Canada can hold 10 million people in every region of Canada but from English speaking countries

I have an idea but I would like to hear others thoughts Why can’t we have an immigration system that is based on ensuring we have a stable population. E.g., a stable population needs 2.1 kids per woman. Therefore if in the year 2024 we had 1.8 kids per woman then we open the immigration for people to change that average from 1.8 to 2.1. Moreover the immigration must also be correlated to the number available housing, number of family doctors, number of students (all type of medicine) accepted to medical schools. Also, say the number of new immigrants came up to 200k we then need to ensure that we only take 5% max from each country in the world to ensure proper diversity. Ofc this is just a thought and can further improved but it seems like a topic conservatives, ndp, or liberals aren’t willing to ever consider. I get it the PPC have mentioned similar ideas but it would be hard for them to win the 2025 elections.

Wages for average worker will go up. People will be paid better, more job opportunities. More affordability. Less inflation . This is what will happen.
