Hey Fran ! I'm so happy you talked about Ecoline !! Like you said, it is not a very well-known product, but it's so versatile and pretty, I think it deserves all the publicity ! Just to add some warnings and talk about it more (for you or for anyone who wants to try Ecoline) : First, it is not exactly "liquid watercolor", at least in the composition of the colors. Watercolor is made of natural pigments,some amount of white, and chemicals to bind the piments to the rest, and Ecoline is made with artificial pigments, chemically designed to get this color intensity. (this is why Ecoline is so liquid) Because Ecoline isn't made with natural pigments, it will fade away very quickly with time, or at least way quicker than watercolor, which can be preserved much longer. It is a problem for illustrators or artists that put originals on the art market, because it kinda destroys their work's value. (René Hausman, a famous illustrator from Belgium, stopped using Ecoline (in favor of watercolor) for this very reason) To keep your originals looking fresh and to prevent the premature fading of the colors, i recommend keeping your originals away from sunlight and humidity. Another specificity of Ecoline, and you probably noticed filming the video, is its tendency to bleed and mix when in contact with other colors. It can be a problem whan you need to keep two areas of color next to each other without them instantly bleeding into the other. For those who are familiar with watercolor it probably won't be a problem, because the two medias react quite the same way, but for those of you who want to try out Ecoline for the first time, beware. Just let your layers dry for a long (very long) time before doing the rest. I think that's all ! Thank you so much for making a video about this, and I'm looking forward to the next one !

Ok so I forgot to add a few tricks : You can use coarse salt on a fresh layer of Ecoline to create a starry sky-like pattern (the salt will suck out the water and a little bit of pigment). Just sprinkle a pinch of it on the wet paint and wait for it to dry out completely. You can use bleach with a brush on dry Ecoline to erase it easily. It won't give you back pure white everytime, and bleach reacts differently with blue or red, so try it out before ! The bleach won't damage your brushes, but I recommend using synthetic ones anyway, just in case. Just wash them thoroughly before using them on other paints ! (you really don't want bleach in your Ecoline pot) You can use bleach with a sponge, tissues, fabric, or other things to get a textured effect. You can use a scalpel or a cutter to gently scratch the paint, it can give really awesome texture. There it is ! If I think of other things I'll just post them later.

Sorry for the delay ! My all-time favourite brands are really high end and expensive watercolors that i buy in individual pots or tubes, and usually I will test a color palette in student quality watercolors or Ecoline before using them for the final version. The first is Sennelier, it is a French brand made of beeswax and pure pigments and the color payoff is s t u n n i n g. About 7 euros for a 10ml / 0.33 oz tube, which is expensive as hell but lasts a long time. The second one is the Horadam Aquarelle line by Schminke, (and i would recommend most of Schminke products), taht I bought for 6 euros each individual half-pot (the usual palette sized ones). Around Sennelier quality, really good brand and a bit more consistent on the formula. Again, those are artist quality watercolors, and really, really expensive. For beginners, I'd recommend Winsor and Newton, they are the best I can think of in terms of price/quality for student quality watercolors. If you want to try and learn more about color theory, and not rely on a lot of pre-made colors, i would recommend trying out the good brands, and buying three to five individual pots in primary colors and maybe dark brown or blue (and a pink one since I find it horribly difficult to get a good pink out or primary red). Be careful of difference in quality between your colors ! In Sennelier for example, the primary red is very potent, and I have to be careful to use very little amounts to not overwhelm the others hues. Anyway, those are the brands I use, and I definitely don't know everything about watercolor (I am more of a gouache painter, and I rarely use watercolor without drowning it in 1000 layers of color pencils), so I am not the best person to give advice. My best bet for you is to try as much brands as you can, maybe by buying individual pots, to see which one will suit your style and practice best. (on a side note, I don't recommend those Kuretake Gansai big pots, it is a very different type of formula from Japan that is not made to be used in european based traditional watercolor style, and will fuck you up)

I loved your video! I have the ecoline brushmarkers and they are amazing, a fun fact is that the ecoline liquid tint is the same that it is inside the pens, so when your markers run out of ink you can open them and put the tint from this liquid bottles ♥️♥️

These remind me so much of a coloring book I used to have when I was about 10. It was a Klutz book that provided these laminated coloring pages and liquid watercolours.

oooh, the fact that they're Dutch explains why i'm very well familiar with Ecoline ^^. I'm from Belgium and we used these in elementary school and workshops my mom sent me & my sister to! I haven't used them in ages but I remember really liking their ink-like consistency. I think we used them to 'marble' paper, in a bath with water and white spirit ...? My memories are a bit blurred :D

Hey! thank you for sharing this with us! I am a jeweller and I use Ecoline for jewel drawings, to represent metal (gold, silver or gems). And it is soooo good! These colors are perfect!

wow, ecoline for me is a throwback to kindergarten! it's something that is always used in kindergarten here (Netherlands) for diy projects with small kids, or at least it was when I was young. most of my friends seem to have the same memories when hearing ecoline (we actually pronounce it quite weird) ^^

You made my morning! It brightened my day to wake up to a new video from you. I'm a huge fan of yours. I've used the Windsor & Newton Liquid Acrylic Paints before. They are amazing because they come WITH a dropper inside. So you can have an empty palette lined up put one drop in the first well, two drops in the second well, three drops in the third, and so on. Then you can add a second or third color and make gradations that way. It's fun and satisfies the creative but organized parts of my brain. :-)

hi! Ecoline is so great! I'm actually Dutch, so I have used this product since litterally first grade. But here, we use it in a different way: if you first draw something with oil pastels, and you then paint over it with ecoline, the oil will not mix and it will give a pretty cool effect! I know you don't usually draw with them, but it is a fun technique anyway ;) I really admire your personal style, it is so nice! I love the way you colour as well! lots of love

I remember looking for these watercolors a million years ago when I first started watching your videos and not having any luck. They weren't on Amazon or Dick Blick, but really that's a good thing. Inks and watercolors are my weakness and if they were easily available I'd have to buy EVERY single color there is!! :)

I recently visited Taipei, Taiwan and left all my art supplies behind, which was a MISTAKE. I coerced my SO into going to an art store with me. It was tiny, but filled with supplies! They had a whole section of Ecoline colors, which I hadn't seen before because they're not widely available in Japan. I remembered how much you liked them so decided to try out one color (Pastel Green). I. Am. Hooked. I doubt I would've tried them on my own and probably would've picked up a tube of Holbein instead. So thank you!

Lovely video Fran! I love to see how you use it. I really need a flower-mixing pallette because I never tried using them the way you do and I think I will love them a lot more because using it out of the pot is so messy and I stained my floor almost. But I love their new brush markers so much!

Ecoline is in every elementary school classroom in Belgium, it is so amazingly pigmented :) I used to use this as a kid (huuuge amounts, soaking the paper with it, how wasteful we all were xD)

Yo tengo las mismas, las uso con un waterbrush, uso una jeringa para mezclar los colores. Igual tengo un gotero que lo saqué de un remedio, funciona muy bien. Se me ocurrió un día (como no tengo paleta mezcladora) guardar las mezclas de colores en un organizador de pastillas (medicamentos) que tenía cajoncitos pequeñitos y la verdad sirve mucho para tener todo organizado y no tener que mezclar todas las veces los colores. Igual si se evapora el color, como solo se le evapora el líquido si le agregas agua vuelves a activar la acuarela. Por eso dejo los colores listos así no pierdo tanto tiempo.

I'm from the Netherlands, so I'm familiar with the brand. It is used (at least in my days) in primary school, but completely different. The kids make a drawing with Wasco crayons (also from Royal Talens) and the teacher, or kids if they werd old enough, would paint over the crayon with undiluted ecoline. You can find some of these results on Pinterest if you search Wasco and ecoline. It is not nearly as expensive here.

This may sound creepy but I bought the same Kanken bag and color as you because you are goals. You inspired me to try out watercolor paints and I fell in love with them. I LOVE Ecoline inks! I am also a fan of the Rohers inks too, especially Krapprot. Both brands make up most of my ink stash. Great video :-D

My friend told me about this watercolors and I wasn't believing that they were good cause here it costs R$10,00 each which is super cheap. Now I'm so excited to buy and test it hahahaha

Love Ecoline, and I am lucky, because I live in Holland, so they are quite cheap here. Only one note. They are not lightfast. So be carefull with direct sunlight or put your artwork behind UV-glass or spray with an UV-filter. Love your video's!

We sometimes used those in elementary school! I haven't used them in a while, but I like them. I always thought ecoline was the product name instead of the brand. : ')

I started with ecoline (aycolene) 20 years ago or more, with only that basic set, I now have almost all of them . I also thought i can mix anything, and theoretically you can, but some are really hard to get, like purples I found, so now i have 45 or the 48 ;-) last week i posted a swatch making vid. I use my 1/4 teaspoon measureing spoon, fits in perfectly, just a tip, pipettes are hard to clean

yess! I have 4 and I give them to friends as tiny gifts because they are so wonderful!

royal talon makes my fav watercolor pans. i found the liquid watercolor on clearance. i use yellow the most my pan is empty and i got a yellow! it was meant to be.

Those colours look absolutely amazing - I so want to check these out. (Also, I loved the reference to Sanne - She's one of my favourite booktubers, and I'm happy you are friends hahah)
