Eco India: How Bengaluru’s polluted lakes are affecting its food chain

Every week, Eco India brings you stories that inspire you to build a cleaner, greener and better tomorrow.
A program to rejuvenate Bengaluru’s lakes aims to boost water supplies and reduce the level of toxins in fresh produce. Bengaluru was once known as the city of a thousand lakes. Now it’s water-deficient, and the water bodies that remain are polluted.

    Educate the peoples to reduce usage of toxic chemicals in their modern life style. Most of these chemicals are coming from soaps, detergents, toothpaste, dish washers, floor cleaner, sanitary chemicals, cosmetics and vehicles service stations and hospitals

    We are destructing Bengaluru to a maximum extent. This is not sustainable. All apartments must be mandated to treat sewage before releasing out Living in cities is getting deadly. Is this called development?

    There are no solution to the problems in India, self inflicted , Bangalore not long ago was a paradise , with great climate , beautiful parks, decent clean place , crisp fresh air, quiet surroundings, it has regressed to the point of no return , development is a curse .

    Great video. Looks like God needs to charge money from us for every drop of water, until then human behaviour will not change. Choking cities, builder lobby preventing work from home jobs, excessive urbanization and concentrated development is going to Kill Bengaluru.. sigh!!

    @@eniyavelk9377 Plants don't break down harmful compounds like pharmaceuticals or heavy metals. They absorb the nitrates and phosphates present in sewage that makes grow faster. The bamboo grown in these areas are a health hazard and are unfit to be used even for furniture.

    Then i think we need to make the water dilute by rainwater and then do the biological treatment process

  • @alileevil

    @alileevil

    6 ай бұрын

    @@eniyavelk9377 the bulk of sewage treatment is done by biological process using aerobic bacteria. The only chemicals used are harmless aluminum sulfate salts to remove the suspended particles that cannot be broken down by bacteria and those which are too light to settle down. But for the bacteria to grow and treat the water, we need to maintain optimal conditions which is why a properly designed sewage treatment plants are needed. Pharmaceuticals and other compounds are more difficult to remove and require membrane filtration or specialized adsorption process. But in India even the basics are not done properly.
