    I just stick to 3/8 Lp 043 as the 1/4 pitch chain just go’s blunt in like 5 mins in all the hardwood gum trees here in Australia.It go’s real good with 12” stihl bar no need to drill holes or anything ya just add one extra drive link as to what the bar says and it all lines up fine

    I know this video is old, but did you use a piston stop inside the spark plug hole to hold the sprocket in place? Or what did you use. Ive seen some use small rope. If you used a piston stop what mm size did you use? Im guessing 10mm

    @DRTE22 thanks I was thinking of just using the old spark plug as a 'piston stop' and replace with a new spark plug. Think that would work? Also I heard using an impact drill isn't recommended to remove the clutch...how's the saw been handling since the conversion?

    4:21 if you watch about 4 minutes in, I walk you through the process of drilling the tensioner/oiler holes. They have gaps inside the hose where the oil passes through to get to the chain. Hope that helps! If you need any further details, I’ll be happy to make another video.

    That is all perspective my friend, the stihl 151tc is heavier and $575.00 plus tax out of the box, in my opinion the echo is better so it is well worth the extra money, and still costs less than a 151. I actually couldn’t get another 2511 when my last one got stolen so I offered to pay a friend of mine $200 to get this one in Georgia and ship it to me. So my expenses ended up being somewhere around saw $400, shipping $20, convenience fee for my friend $200, sprocket $40, bar & chain $80, and saw dogs $10, so $750 total plus a few hours of missing. Around the cost of a stock 201tc and worth every penny!

    I just bought the 2511 after wanting it all summer. I'm use to running a 16" on my 201 and not sure I'd like dropping down to 10" what's the longest bar this saw would handle properly?

  • @DRTE22

    @DRTE22

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Elijah, You can run just about any size you want, however personally I would say 12” would be the max recommendation. Remember, the 201 is a 36cc class too handle while this echo is around 25. It’s a HUGE difference when it comes to the power and torque, so the smaller bar and chain will be directly relative to the power loss you will feel in the cut. I like the 10” because the cut speed is comparable to a 201 with a 14”… again they are vastly different saws, so if you’re wanting that 201 power out of this little saw with a 14” bar, you will more than likely be disappointed. The shorter the better IMO.

    if your cutting hardwoods, I like the 12". Probablly go too a 14" for soft wood. I didnt do the 1/4" conversion yet.. Just went too a 12" 3/8 .43g bar and chain.. And punched a 3/8" hole in the exhaust after break-in..Tuned it a bit.. Been running 3x of these daily for past 2 years now.. Great lill' saws. even with the 3/8" .43g and a 12" vs 14,16" makes difference. just ordered a 1/4 drive x12" setup.. looking forward too try it.. I been cutting oaks, maples,ash,hickory, pine, spruce here in northeast with the 12" .43g and I lovem for anything up in the top'.. so does other guys on crew. The 14,16" is just too big imo for these saws.. Maye a 14" 1/4 pitch mite be ok. But 12" is way too go for all around.. Heck, 10" 1/4' pitch should really ripp.. There are times when I think "yea a bit more chain speed" would be nice, especially sending bigger tops, and stuff.. But avg trimming, limbin, rigging, its fine.

    What is the purpose of changing to a 1/4 pitch??

  • @DRTE22

    @DRTE22

    2 жыл бұрын

    The 1/4 pitch bar and chain is much smaller, and therefore lighter weight than both the traditional and narrow gauge 3/8. Less rotating mass equals faster revs and more power through your cuts. Faster more efficient cuts means more productivity, more productivity means more money in less time. Taking a 5.2 pound chainsaw and making it 4.9 also takes a little bit of strain off of your body during the course of a long day of cutting. Hope that helps answer your questions!

    @@DRTE22 Ok I noticed guys like Buckin even on great big saws running the long bars wanting to run the little .325. Chain. And I was wondering if I was missing out on the point because he had tons of power! But I totally understand if your taking less wood out of the cut you’re going to move quicker through the branch!! And like you said less load is more RPM which is faster cut! Didn’t want to be missing any advantage I can get either. I’m 62 and want the fastest lightest!!

    Why spend more money and time sending the saw off for that when I can do all of this at home on my work bench? I personally love the 1/4 pitch over the stock because it allows me to run a 10” bar, drastically reducing the overall weight of the saw and most importantly reducing the rotating mass. I’ll port it when it reaches the point that it needs a rebuild ;)

    @@yotaismygame agree to disagree there. My end result JUST about cuts faster than my 201t with 3/8 .043 chain. I’ll do a video sometime of the cut speed with the different bars I have for it, which are the 12” 3/8 .050 and the 10” 1/4 .043. I’m located in central North Carolina now so maybe we can find some comparative size of the same species and do some recorded cut testing! :) Reducing the saw weight is negligible but reducing your rotating mass makes a DRASTIC difference, that’s just a matter of scientific fact. It keeps the chain spinning faster in the cut, doesn’t bog down, etc. The Stihl 10” 1/4 pitch chains are cheaper as well. I’m definitely very happy with it and I did my buddy’s saw with a 12” 1/4 pitch and he is loving it as well.

    @@joshlower1 hi Josh, I’m so sorry that you had nothing better to to today then to come on here and make rude comments about me under my video. I’m sitting on a site clearing a little over an acre and doing most of my bucking and limbing with my full wrap 461 with a 25” bar. So I’m going to venture that your assumption is wrong! 😂 haha. But let’s dig a little deeper? Why not reduce the weight on a small saw? And also, the comment you replied to wasn’t talking about reducing weight, but rather reducing the rotating mass, which is different and we will get to that following! Have you ever held a gallon of water at arms length for any period of time? I’m guessing not, and I’d venture to guess you also haven’t done it with a saw either. When you do this day in day out, ANY reduction in weight is a reduction in strain on your body!! If you were a professional, you would understand how this adds up over the course of an 8-10hr day. So the real question is why do YOU need to make negative comments about weight reduction? If it helps me, it’s worth it, no matter what online micro penga POs says! Also, I was speaking about REDUCING ROTATING MASS, not reducing the actual weight, which means the motor has less strain on it, and will reach peak rpm faster than the 3/8” counterpart whether it’s a pico chain or not. If you have any other questions or concerns, please message me directly! The negative comments are not welcome nor necessary. Thank you, and have a better day!
