    Ecclesiastes is such a gem. I don't hear it preached often, if ever, but it fits the lived experience so well. I'm reminded how much better and more joyful our lives would be if we were taught and lived from the Bible's wisdom from youth. Great editing in this video and thank you for breaking down the book. I look forward to meeting you one day, Brother Landon

    Actually the book says it is our job to enjoy the fruits of our toils and to celebrate the Lord. Far too often people get wrapped up in this obeying thing when we should primarily concern ourselves with this joyous thing we call life.

    I just finished reading Ecclesiastes in my “Read Through the Bible” plan on YouVersion and I sat there wondering, why was this so negative? Why does he keep saying everything is “meaningless”? (The NIV on that app translates vanity/emptiness as meaningless.) It sounded like the writings of a very depressed man to me lol. But this helped me a lot! Thank you so much! It’s taken me over a year so far on this plan (I’m 100 days away from finishing the Bible) because I stop to make sure I understand the things that confuse me. Thanks for your help! :)

    I've read the book of the Preacher literally dozens of times, and even written it down word by word on paper to completely imprint it on my mind, and I'm not satisfied by this 7 minute "overview". I can only urge anyone that might see this to instead open up your bible and read the book of Ecclesiastes word by word, slowly. I warn you though, because increased knowledge really increases sorrow. The more vanity is made clear about the world and what we do in it, the heavier the heart will become. Yet it's a victory to be found in this, because if you follow the logic of this book of wisdom to the end, you won't have anything else to gain then to seek Jesus and the things of God, and this will make you blessed.

    'Vanity' is an unfortunate English translation, at least in our times. (The original Hebrew word is Hevel, meaning vapour, or indicating something with appearance but no substance.) 'Vanity' used to firstly indicate something of no use, or profitless: e.g., "His efforts were in vain". But anyone who doesn't read the classics (most of us, today), only understands Vanity to mean egocentrism or narcissism. So it's better to translate Hevel as 'Useless', or 'Fruitless'.

    Jesus drank and the Pharisees accused him of being a drunk. The OT shares some of the health benefits of drinking as does Paul. That being said - drunkenness is clearly a sin and we are not meant to be under any power other than the power of the Holy Spirit. That's my take.

    You do Ecc justice. It's one of my favorite books, because it is a slap in the face to the name it and claim it non-sense. Suffering is a reality of life and whatever pleasures we have come and go with the pains, our hope is in God. The best thing about Ecc is pointing out WHAT IS NOT Eternally, valuable. Almost everything, ALMOST EVERYTHING in this life is NOT eternally valuable.

    At time stamp 6:32 you point out the word shepherd is used here and 2 other times in the OT and it's talking about the David to come. So WOW that is neat, right. I went to Blue Letter Bible and looked up the word and found its Strong's concordance #H7462 is used way more than 2 times in the OT. Can you explain the difference from what you claim and what the concordance says?

    Oh, I see. So, one must either believe that Solomon wrote Ecclesiastes or he is a non-believer. I would absolutely love to hear the irrefutable evidence that you have for Solomon being the author of Ecclesiastes because I'm simply looking for the truth. I've heard the Ecclesiastes authorship debate in a number of places. Most recently, I saw something from the folks at The Bible Project about this book. Not exactly - its about finding God’s purpose amidst vapidness - “The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.” ‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭12:13‬

  • @LOCKEYJ

    @LOCKEYJ

    5 жыл бұрын

    Pastor Landon I respect your viewpoint but as I see it, duty and purpose are different. From what I read Ecclesiastes is about purposelessness and it’s a beautiful thing that scripture makes account of it. ‘Everything is meaningless’ because it is, it absolutely is. It runs away, it seriously sadly runs away. It’s an unflinching study of entropy. It bothers me when people try to act like it’s something else cos that realness is what draws me to it and to be honest it’s what has kept me in the faith when I’ve been at my lowest, it’s the comfort of knowing you’re not alone. That others have been through it, and even god understands it. I take issue with anyone who would try to spin Ecclesiastes away from what it is, that would try to divert attention from the emptiness to make some trite point to turn it into some kind of self help pamphlet, we’ve got enough of those voices in the world... give me some real food.
