    Thanks for watching the video Rory! I agree. I've been called a hater because "'I'm jealous that I can't afford a fast ebike", but its not even about that. I've never once showed any hate or disdain for fast bikes, if anything, I've showed nothing but love for it since half of my friends/acquaintances in the community have crazy ass builds lol. I've always said that we need to show some more restraint on the road as a community so the public doesn't keep thinking we're all just a bunch of "madmax hooligans" trying to destroy society. I enjoy PEV's and I would love to enjoy it for a long time!

    I used to own a Kawasaki Vulcan 750 back in the 90's. After a "minor" crash (slid on ice) I had second thoughts on motorcycles. I eventually sold it and stuck just driving cars. In the 2010's when PEV's were starting to become popular I bought my first ebike and loved it. Now I own 3 e bikes, 2 e scooters, 1 e skate and 1 EUC. Totally agree with you about being over qualified, we have a different perspective to those that never learned properly. With PEV's getting more and more powerful/heavier I remember my instructor told me "If you don't know the technique on lifting a fallen motorcycle by yourself then you'll just injure yourself."

    thanks for watching the video and thank you for sharing! That's a heck of a collection you have there, I hope that I can move to an area where I can have a fleet of my own without having to worry about what others are going to say about it. Your instructor was a smart person! Our instructor's departing words for us was " congratulations, you learned how to go into 3rd gear while riding in circles on a parking lot in 2 days. Remember that you're still new so practice as much as you can before you attempt anything crazy. It's better to be prepared for a situation than regret being scraped off the road"

    As someone who went basically in reverse and came from motorcycling background first to scooters then e-bike(Talaria) most of what you know on the PEV really don't translate to riding a motorcycle but everything you learn on the motorcycle will benefit you on PEVs. This was a great video and provides insight on a large portion of the PEV community that are oblivious to a lot of traffic laws. A lot of people can be humbled and should take the MSF course and you're right with the way things are going its only a matter of time before the local government starts to crack on hard on PEVs. One of the things that bothered me the most when I first got on a high powered scooters was how unstable it was, the lack of braking power, and just the fact that your center of gravity will send you head first over the handle bars. Like you said the industry despite having developed massively during covid is still young and I hate how manufacturers are all gravitating to bigger and faster scooters without the safety concerns. That's kinda why I ended up selling my scooters for an electric dirtbike. But even that thing sketches me the fuck out cause its too light, quiet with very little stopping power on sketchy Chinese parts. Motorcycles are just unmatched in the sensation when you're going fast; the stability, comfort, and euphoria you get on the high way is something I'll never get tired of. Not sure if you will pursue motorcycling but my take away from 12 years of riding is, take the confidence the MSF gave you and toss it. One of the things that really bothered me with the course was how quickly they threw you into the deep end with the full license. Unlike the UK where their licenses are tiered and you're limited in what you can initially and you slowly upgrade your license classes the MSF waiver just gives you the full class M endorsement. I still remember the first say when one of the guys with no experience and got dismissed on the first day because he was literally endangering people on the course (Launched himself and fell off the bike almost hitting another student) wanted a 1000cc Liter Superbike as his first bike. If anything the habits that I've picked up on my Ebike (Weekday commuter) are detrimental and unsafe when I go back to riding my motorcycle on the weekends. The MSF kinda just throws you into the middle of the ocean after a 2 day kiddie pool swimming lesson with paddle boards. If you do and I hope you do one day find yourself as an owner of a motorcycle take the time to take more lessons and do TONS and TONS of practice.

    Thanks for watching the video and welcome back to the comments section! I really appreciate the advice and I totally understand what you mean by how that course can make you feel over confident with your skills. My favorite thing that one of the coaches said when he was giving us our cards was "congrats, you officially learned to ride in circles in a parking lot barely reaching third gear. Be proud of what you did but remember that you didnt know anything yesterday. So practice, practice, practice and take some of the advanced courses when you're ready". It's really humbling to hear that because it puts it into perspective. Somebody that was whiskey throttling, dropped the bike a few times, and almost went off the course a few times (on the 250cc Honda Night Hawk) was talking about getting a Ducati Monster 1200 as his first bike. If you watch my esk8 series, you'll see I'm pretty OCD about drilling basic skills before exposing my self to the dangers of the road so I'll definitely be doing that IF I get a bike in the future. I'll never forget that feeling when they had us do the "peanut drill" and we got the greenlight to hit 3rd gear in the straights and dropping down into 2nd for the faster s curves. The smell of the gas, the popping of the engine, wind blowing, all while the sun was beaming down on us was an incredible feeling I've never experienced before. At that moment, I knew I was hooked but I'll need to move out of the city and get my wife to green light the purchase if I ever decide to do it. I already have a few scramblers in mind for that time hahaha! I 100000% agree with the statement that nothing really translates from PEV to Moto but it works the other way around. You can tell some of these folks have no business being on the road with any... I don't even trust them walking lol. I tried the Talaria XXX a few weeks after I did the course. It's fun as hell but I was expecting it to perform like a motorcycle but honestly it felt like a suped up moutain bike than a dirtbike. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to own a talaria too lol. It just didn't give me the same high that I got on the Nighthawk!

    Thanks for watching homie! Yup, they really start you off from ground up as if you know nothing about the motorcycles. The first exercise was literally rolling the motorcycle around in neutral and playing with the friction zone. Since each of the bikes were different, you need to learn where that "catch point" is in the transmission so that you can do low speed maneuvers using the friction zone. You also spend the whole 2 days and take the exam with the same bike. They do everything they can to help you succeed!

    Thanks for watching Erock, Glad you enjoyed it! I highly recommend taking it when you get the chance. Having the extra endorsement wont hurt and I promise you that it will give you a new found appreciation for the power of these motorcycles. The fastest ebikes think they own the road and stop the show at our events but even the motorcycles at the school will keep up (and maybe even out perform) those bikes. I get that it's apples and oranges but I think it's something that we should do as a community. I can also tell that a good portion of the community don't have their licenses by the way they operate their PEV on the road lol. The fun part is you get to spend the weekend learning something so fun!

    Wow, the MSF experience sounds like it's worth it. I may look into taking this as well. Wholeheartedly agree with the safety & responsibility points. I basically ride my PEVs using my knowledge for driving cars. Since we share the road with cars, the same safety habits should apply, especially respecting the right of way for others. When you think about it, it's infuriating when, while driving a car, you get cut off by a cyclist, moped, or scooter, even if you were in the lane first. So, we should know best not to do that when riding our PEV.

  • @eyebahnrides

    @eyebahnrides

    Thanks for watching the video Sabaki! The course was alot of fun and definitely worth it. Most if not all the concepts that we learned apply to what we do with PEVs. Having the perspective of a motorcyclist added to the driver/pedestrian/ PEV perspective can only help us. The best part is you get to hands on learning with motorcycles with proper supervision and you'll be well on your way to getting the endorsement if you pass. There are certain drills where they encourage you to get into really get the speed up and there are some where you gotta control the bike under low speed maneuvers so very challenging. All in all, an incredible experience and I'd take the higher levels if I ever get an eMoto with gears.

    I’d love to see some discussion on electric bike defensive driving technique since on an electric bike the half throttle and rear brake lever are both on the right hand. Very different than on a motorcycle where your throttle hand is controlling the front brake and your rear brake is a foot control. Specifically with the electric bike that sets up for difficulty having a finger on the rear to be defensive with your driving while at the same time trying to throttle with your right thumb and index finger.

    Thanks for watching and welcome to the channel! You're right, I think eventually schools like this will eventually have to adapt to the growing popularity of eMotos and eDirtbikes. Especially with brands like BMW, Harley Davidson, Super73, and Ryvid, to name a few, are coming out with Urban Motos, we'll possibly see more of them in the streets. But I believe those are going to be set up more like a Moto with the front break on the throttle hand and the rear brake on the right foot. With the current ebike set ups, i feel that people are mostly relying on their instincts they developed while learning to ride a regular bike!

    It’s nice that you’re preparing for a potential PEV ban/regulations. It’s unfortunate that the reckless riding and fires caused by some may potentially ruin it for all of us. This is an unpopular opinion but I think a fair regulation would be to require all class 2+ ebike riders/ PEV riders to required to have a learners permit at the minimum to operate any PEV (except for kids PEVS like razor escooters) A lot of delivery riders and citi bikers have no idea what the rules of the road are and it shows with the way they recklessly ride through the city. Hard to see such a rule actually work because we can already see the disaster with unregistered mopeds

I 10000000% agree with requiring anyone getting anything with that much power to atleast have a license and be 18+. But you're right, it's gonna be impossible to enforce. If they really wanted to do something, we need the cops to stop hanging around the bridges and got to those delivery hotspots where all the mopeds hang out like LIC, hells kitchen, on first Ave, and the Village. If I were NYPD and I were deadass serious about catching these idiots on the mopeds, I'd be raiding those places on a daily lol

    I started in motorcycles and went to PEVs. I generally think all the SIPDE stuff is great, but the slow/look/lean/turn doesnt work as well for PEVs because of: (a) the lower gyroscopic effect from the smaller wheel; and (b) the need for PEVs to pay a lot of attention to pavement quality, where "looking through the turn" can be more dangerous for PEVs.

    I watched a bunch of your videos this weekend because I enjoy hearing from another NYC rider. I recognized your footage from Northern Blvd to the bridge, which is my daily commute. Using a PEV for commuting in a super dense area like NYC poses a number of special risks that suburban and trail riders may not appreciate. I watched your explanation for the Nami and why you bought it, and had a twinge of regret that I recently got the Segway GT2 (upgrading from an Inokim OXO). But then again, it was only $2500, not $4k. I've got around 4200 miles riding in NYC over 2.5 years, but my commute recently changed and I'm going to be on pace to do 3k a year, so I decided to try out a bigger scooter. We shall see, it arrives this coming week!

    By the way, another thought. I like your content and production generally. You should consider doing a "city riding survival" instructional video. There are lots of things that as we get more experience, we get safer. Techniques like "take the lane" are way safer than trying to share (as the MSF class teaches). Other tricks like how bus lanes are often safer than bike lanes, checking the one-way arrows ahead of intersections to predict the direction of cross traffic, when it's safe to lane split and when it's not (like never ever next to large vehicles), minimizing time in blind spots, extra light needs at night, checking for pavement quality especially potholes, the huge risks in bike lanes, etc. I think we urban riders have a lot of knowledge that newb PEV riders could benefit from.

    @@user-tf3rp9nv1y sorry for the delay. For some reason your response didn't pop up in my feed. Honestly, any of those monster scooters/ ebikes are overkill for what we do here in NYC because we'll never be able to use it to its full potential safely. For some, I get its about bragging rights but all I care about is it looks good, its comfortable, its quick, and most importantly reliable. Congrats on the new scooter! Let us know how it goes. That's a great idea. I've been toying with the idea of doing a "how to navigate NYC and the unspoken rules of the road for us". A lot of folks from the outside looking in like to backseat comment and criticize us for the way we normally navigate the city. I never get angry with them because I get that it looks like a lawless jumblefck for those not used to NYC's chaos. I'm just trying to find a way to fit it in with the craziness of my job's schedule. As you can tell, I record basically to and from work for most of my content and will occasionally do videos if I have free time on my days off. My goal is to eventually be able to create additional styles of content outside of the ride vlogging that we're known for. As the channel grows and I hope that I can free up more and more time to create because I find being creative far more enjoyable than my current career lol.
