Great video Tim. I just got the Nomad last month and wondered if I should have gotten the cargo trailer instead. How do you like riding the Hub Duo? I am thinking about getting one for my wife. Does it work well with the torque sensor? How does it feel in the lowest assist level, do you find it to be too powerful?

Thank you so much! The Hub Duo is a pretty cool bike to ride, and it’s a big bike with a sleek frame. I got Elaine the 27.5x3 inch wheels and it kind of feels like a small motorcycle. To be honest, it’s just a little big for Elaine, but the smaller frame would have been much too small for her and she doesn’t like the feel of a step-thru. With regards to hub-drive versus mid-drive, I definitely prefer the mid-drive because of the overall power and the fact that it truly maximizes the bike’s gears. The torque sensor on the Hub Duo is okay, but it’s nothing like the Beast. I do find that the torque from the throttle on the Hub Duo is pretty powerful, so starting from a stop on the Hub Duo using the throttle is kind of fun. The Beast’s throttle from a complete stop has always felt more sluggish to me and isn’t nearly as effective as the Beast’s torque sensor, but I think that’s the difference between mid-drive and hub-drive. The Hub Duo low-range power isn’t bad for a 750-watt hub-drive, but as a Beast rider I would never swap out for ANY hub-drive eBike. But to me the Hub Duo is a great casual ride for sure, and I think it’s plenty powerful and a perfect eBike for beginners. Elaine is a very experienced cyclist, but she still struggles a little with the size and weight of an eBike. On a side note, I actually know the code to unlock the Hub Duo’s motor to increase the max speed and change to 3, 5, and 9 PAS levels. I thought about doing a video on it, but then I decided against it because I’m an advocate for riding safely within one’s limits and don’t want to encourage people to be irresponsible. Since the Hub Duo is already a class 2, I simply increased Elaine’s from 20mph to 28mph and left it on 5 PAS levels. I’m not going to openly share the code, but if you read through the comments on my video for the Hub Duo, you’ll find the commenter who shared with me the code. 🤫 😆 Finally, I will say that last year I tried out my friend’s Sondors XS 750-watt hub-drive, and everything about the Hub Duo puts the Sondors XS model to shame, in my opinion. I’ll guarantee you that you won’t love the Hub Duo over your Beast, but if your wife wants to ride and is just beginning she’ll love the Hub Duo. Keep in mind that Elaine is 5’-8”, so if your wife is shorter be sure and get the 17” step-thru model. ✌️

Love the Biketrix Beast 2 but they are out of stock. What would be other fat tire ebikes comparable to the Beast 2? Love your vids btw! Cheers.

Thank you so much! The Ultra Beast 2 always sells out fast. You can check out Bikonit. They make a VERY similar bike (I think they're actually the same frame), but they make a very high end with a mid-drive belt-driven motor for about 8k! They also make a couple less "fancy" versions. I will say, however, that the Biktrix "duo" models are pretty damn solid. I bought my partner the lower end Hub Duo model and it's the best hud-drive I've ridden. I feel like you can't go wrong with the Ultra Duo models, either. Mid-drives that are about 15 lbs lighter than the Beast, but have the same weight capacity. The downside is that you need to buy the extended battery separately, whereas the Beast comes with two integrated. Here's a link to their website: lddy.no/11uc6 We're actually taking our Biktrix ebikes on a camping trip this coming week and I should have some cool videos to publish in the next few weeks. I'll be showing what I use to transport the bikes, off-grid solar charging, and some pretty cool rides. Stay tuned! 👍🏻

@@twowheeltim Thanks for your response. I so also have my eye on the Ultra Duo 3 which seems to have similar specs to the beast. However, looks to me like the beast has a different frame. Is it a more upright position on the beast?

The Beast has a very different frame. The Beast has a longer top tube than either size of the Ultra Duo 3s (17.5 and 19.5 stepover). Also the Beast has a much wider handlebar (710mm) and only a 10mm rise, whereas the Ultra Duo 3 has a narrower bar (650mm) with a 50mm rise. All these measurements make the Ultra Duos much more upright than the Beast. If your looking for a more upright bike and something lighter, the Ultra Duo 3 is the way to go. Plus, the Ultra Duo 3 comes with a 52v 17ah integrated battery. The Beast comes with 2 47v 15ah batteries. Naturally, the 2 batteries on the Beast give you more juice than the single battery on the Ultra Duo 3, but if you buy an extended battery with the Ultra Duo 3 you'll get more juice and a lighter bike. I'm 6'-1" and started out at 322 lbs (down to 269 lbs now), so I wanted the bigger bike that's a bit more aggressive feeling.

@@twowheeltim Really appreciate your info. The Beast is so tempting looks-wise but the Ultra Duo 3 overall may be the better fit. Looking forward to viewing more vids. Cheers.

When we ordered out bikes earlier this week my wife suggested we get a trailer for out two Bichons. After looking at what is out there your solution looks to the the best. The trailer itself has multiple uses and the dog kennel looks to be better made than the dog trailer enclosures. I had a look on Amazon and both are for sale at a very good price to boot so it looks like we will be ordering them before spring. Quick question, we also just ordered the extender batteries for out Juggernaut Duos as they put them on sale. Do we need to get a separate charger for the extender batteries or does it charge off of the charger that comes with the bike?

Hi Doug. I’m happy to hear that our trailer idea inspired you. It really does work wonderfully, and I know you’ll love it! As far as the extender battery goes, it should come with it’s own charger, but they should be interchangeable with the chargers that came with your ebikes. I say “should” because I ordered Elaine’s ebike and the extender battery together, and it came with two chargers and they are interchangeable. I assume that’s the case when ordering the extender battery separately, too, but maybe send Biktrix support a quick email to confirm. Question for you. Did you be sure to get the extender battery mount, too? Biktrix installed Elaines mount, since I ordered the battery with the Hub Duo, but unless you ordered the extender battery mount and had them install it when you ordered the ebikes, this is something you’ll need to order and install yourself.

@@twowheeltim Tim, thanks for the info. I ordered the batteries after the bikes as at first we were going to wait. But then they put them on a 25% off sale plus another discount for Black Friday for a total of 33% off. It was a no brainer to get them now. I just went back to the battery page and yes I see I missed a note at the bottom of the page saying we will need a plate. I will reach out to them and get them to add it to our order. Edit: I was able to contact them and the plate is included with our kit but not the charger. Sounds like they changed how they sell them. She did recommend getting the optional charger to save time as the batteries need to be charged separately. So with an extra charger I can charge them at the same time.

Great! The single battery already has amazing distance depending on how you ride, and the extender gives what feels like infinite riding distance. That’s exaggerated, of course, but we use pedal assist always and just love the longevity. Elaine has yet to use her extender battery due to the way she rides her Hub Duo. On a side note, we ordered some extra Christmas lights and will be decorating up our ebikes for Christmas weekend and will be riding around look at the decorated homes. Weather permitting, of course, but as I live in California we’ll likely have a heat wave during Christmas. 😆 If we are able to do this, I’ll likely make a video of it. 👍🏼 Happy Holidays, Doug!
