I actually started watching an Eberron Podcast called Manifest Zone hosted by Keith Baker and one of his bigger regrets with Eberron's World building the fact that he made so many NPCs of the Silver Flame Lawful Evil, he intended this to be a way of showing that even in this inherently good religion it's followers are still human and more nuanced than a black and white conflict. But a lot of DM have to go full 40K with the Church of the Silver Flame and really playing to the "Burning Heretics" aspect of the faith.

Inquisitor Thomas Actually there are factions within the church of the silver flame that are confirmed to be lawful evil These factions are more concerned with wiping out those who are impure or ‘tainted by demonic forces’ than doing actual good. The church isn’t above torture or enforcing cruel punishment if they believe it furthers their cause.

1. There are many overlords in Eberron, the one sealed in Thrane is just one of them. 2. The overlord sealed in Thrane is Bel Shalor, and he always attempt to corrupt the minds of followers of the silver flame (called purites I believe). 3. There are many corrupt priests in the church, thanks to the whispering of Bel Shalor. 4. The followers of church of silver flames launched a crusade against werewolves around 150 years ago, which is why lycanthropes are hard to come by in Eberron.

I think the best part of the Church's history was The Silver Inquisition. Because it wasn't just Lycanthrope that the "Pure Flamists" hunted down. They were relentless in their goal to rid Eberron of all Shapechangers. The Inquisition is over and has been for some time, about 50 or so years before the start of The Great War if I'm not mistaken. Even still the "Pure Flamist" still operate as if the fight again Shapechangers never ended.

Awesome I was hoping for some more Ebberon content. I'm hoping at some point you cover Changelings as they're my absolute favorite race in DnD.

I'm planning on playing a knight errant paladin who's lost faith in the church but still has devotion to the flame and I'm bouncing back and forth between choosing to play as a tiefling or a half-elf.

As usual, a few things to add: 1. The Blood of Vol isn't an Evil faith. The Order of the Emerald Claw, who tend to follow the faith, are disavowed by the common followers (called Seekers). The Blood of Vol is closer to a Neutral religion, with some sects leaving towards good and some bad. 2. The demon lord who menaced Thrane of old and the fiend said to whisper to the some of the faithful of the Flame are in fact one and the same. The Overlord Bel Shalor, the Shadow in the Flame. 3. No mention of the Silver Crusade? For shame, sir. It's a major part of how the Church is currently viewed in the world. Regardless, I do want to congratulate you on not making them out to be a group of single-minded zealots, nor focusing on the endemic corruption that has misinterpreted into the Church. So thank you.

I am doing research for an Eberron campaign these videos have been great! Im a huge star wars fan so having the silver flame vs the Dragon below cults is like the Jedi vs. the Sith I love it!

The Silver Flame is my favorite DND religion because it’s a monotheistic church in a predominantly polytheistic setting. Most fantasy settings are polytheistic and that’s just it. In general, Religion and faith in Eberron are less cut and dry than in the Realms or Pathfinder, more complicated and enigmatic,, and it’s one of many things I love about this setting.

Reminds me a lot of The Holy Light from Warcraft! great video, thank you.

We haven't run any Ebonron campaign yet but the one we gonna do is a homebrew

i have a super fun fact, I don't know if this was done intentionally by jorphdan, but my head is exploding right now... At 2:48 jorphdan shows what is supposed to be the symbol of Barbatos, a biblical demon who, when summoned, he appears "with four noble kings and their companions in great troops" Although it is a great parallelism with the Eberron lore, that is NOT the symbol of the demon Barbatos, as the right one has a cross instead of that weird spear in the center That in fact, is the symbol of the Tekkadan brigade, a fictional group of mercenaries in the anime Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans, and that weird thing at the center is supposed to be "the red iron flower made from the blood of our fallen companions" This apparently weird overlapping of symbols has actually a reason to exist: the main unit of the Tekkadan brigade is called the Barbatos, a Gundam so feared it was called the Horned Demon I love this This is amazing

The Blood of Vol is not evil per say; it is a Neutral / Chaotic Neutral religion that basically teaches people to empower / worship themselves (or more specifically, their own blood) and gain power to create their own personal paradise either in the material world or in the afterlife. It's basically the D & D version of the real life Church of Satan or Satanic Temple, which believe that "Satan" is just a metaphor for our natural impulses and that as long as you don't take things too far it's good to indulge in it. I mean, sure, the leader of the Blood of Vol - Lady Erandis Vol- is definitely evil, and it attracts a higher-than-average number of narcissistic evil doers, but the religion is not evil in-and-of itself despite it's membership and origins.

Also, an important part of Blood of Vol that while Seekers (the faithul of this religion) do create undead, it is also out of neccesity. While mindless undead are completely clean of any mortal divinity and thus are raised without impudence by them, sentient undead are essentially martyrs and bodhisattvas of their religion: having never achieved the sacred goal of transcending death before their time has come, they turn themselves into undead creatures like vampires to pass on their wisdom to still living. In case of vampires, comunal donations of blood are common; this adds much to the creepiness in eyes of outsiders but is perfectly benign in eyes of Seekers. Before Last War, Seekers were mostly up to themselves in Khorvaire, but Erandis Vol has directed them to officially support Karrnath and her "servant" King Kaius I, and lending their necromantic mastery to Karrnath's military tradition, have gained both new believers and decryers alike throughout the War.

I think the Shulassakar might be a bit surprised by the idea that the Silver Flame didn't communicate until Tira became the Voice.

My cleric of magic following the way of the silver flame actually attacked a fellow player for stealing loot from the party. He claimed he had multiple personalities and the one that stole the item I KO'd with a crit 20 lvl 3 guiding bolt. He came around as his second personality and tried attacking me and happened to crit again since I had advantage on him from the last guiding bolt and downed him again. He gave back the item. Not 10 minutes later we get captured by Drow because we had spent all our spell slots. There was much hilarity after that but I am still referred to as "Glitter Boi" in that group. ps, I don't really mind it! lolol

Imagine being a Cleric of the Silver Flame and just refusing to revive your party members. Pease and rice that would be hard to RP. I doubt your spell audit would approve a couple of resurrections for your well-being.

At first I thought Eberron was more focused on steam punk and futuristic trends, before realizing that judeo christian fanatics like me have a lot to work with

There actually isn't one, the creator of Eberron wanted it to be it's own thing not connected to other worlds. WotC wants it to be connected in some fashion so it is said that Eberron lies across a great void of nothing. No stars, no planets, just empty blackness. After a forever long voyage you'll find the universe of Eberron.

Oh man, I was really hoping to learn about the Silver Massacre - er, I mean, the Silver Crusade. I wanted a less pure look at the church, because it’s really not a super great organization.

This must be the 5th edition version. The 3.5 version is different.

You forgot about genocide that the Silver Flame commits against shifters, aberrant dragonmarked and, anyone else they deem "unholy"!

I’m not sure why, but I believe “The Silver Flame” it has some connection to “The SpellPlague”, now I know that both Ebberon and The Forgotten Realms are two completely different worlds with their own canon, but it’s made canon that these worlds are parts of an overall “Macroverse”, so it’s possible that the silver fire called “The Silver Flame” and the blue flames from “The SpellPlague” are just part of some greater form of magical plasma that naturally seeks “change” throughout this Macroverse, and it’s only a matter of time until the true source is recognized throughout these worlds -Double D

Hmmmm. Here is an idea I had for the flame. What if it is purifying a demon? Essentially making it into a divine being? And if successful it will do as advertised. Buy this demon, of course, doesn't want this. So influences the believers so as to retard the flame's efforts. Be a cool story to work around.
