It's not like he's sponsored or anything. He just catches fish/buys it online or at a market an then cooks it himself. Makes sense why he doesn't sugarcoat things.

My absolute favorite part of Masaru's videos is even if he doesn't ultimately like it, he still compliments it by saying it was an excellent meal and acts excited to have given it a try! It feels very respectful to the fish that died to create his meal experience. It's really nice!

All the talk of fish oil diarrhea reminded me of a a guy I knew. I worked with a sushi chef that always kept outside cuts of escolar for the particularly troublesome guests. He’d place it among the offender’s order…because who’s gonna refuse free sushi.
I love that anatomy and biology lessons accompany each video. I know you are working on your own projects but I think you would have made an excellent school teacher.
For a fish with that much fat like that, grilling is the best way to serve it. The grilling technique will render the fat so that it won't be much glumpy of a texture and will absorb more seasoning

I like how masaru gives more additional info about vitamin A poisoning and reminds pregnant ladies its unsafe to consume the liver. For me this is new knowledge for me lol. thank you for the lesson!

When I was a child I was really fascinated in the preparation of meat and animals, and it horrified my family so they discouraged the topic. I don't know where they think the food comes from? It makes me so glad that some one like Masaru lives in this day and age, where he can both dissect an unusual animal and prepare it for food without criticism, and even entertain us.

Wanted to see you make a fish candle. I had real Diarrhoea fish - Oilfish (Ruvettus pretiosus), someone "gifted" my family a frozen packet of "Cod". The night before I had a good side fillet. In the pan I didn't suspect much, only it was oily like salmon. That night I had the worse cramps and the diarrhoea started. Every fart was an oily shart. Next day I thought the worse was over. Only walk a few meters from my apartment, and wondering what was leaking out my behind. My jeans and underwear was stained with oil. No way of holding it in, just dripped out. I'm sorry those who had to read this.

Thats terrible... As southeast asian who eats a lot of oil on daily basis its super rare to encounters this situation. Diarrhea? Probably. But it never leaks or coming out from the fart 😭

Is it similar to escolar? At my sushi places, they have a warning before eating the fish... saying it's high oil content, causes diarrhea, and leaky bowels. It is very delicious though but I noticed lots of oil floating up in the toilet.

I really like fatty foods, like Pork Belly and the fatty parts of the steaks 🤤 I know a lot of people don’t really like fatty foods or too much of it but I love them so I can imagine this would be my style! 😊❤️

my favorite “not very safe to eat but delicious” fish is white tuna or escolar. it’s delicious and cheap but you can’t eat too much at once or you’ll get sick

何度か食べてますが、船宿の船長さんに作ってもらった 切り身を、味噌に何日か漬け込んだものを頂いた事があります 弱火で味噌がこげない様に焼いて頂きましたが、脂のしつこさが抜けて 最高でしたよ😌🎵 本当にモロコに負けないくらい 確かに刺身を多く食べるとお腹下しますが、火を通した物は普通の量食べても、私はなんともなかったですよ バラムツとは全く違う魚です

To avoid stomach issues with eating so much fat, make it with a turneric based sauce. Turmeric increasing production of bile in the gallbladder which helps your body process more fat!

I don’t really like the lingering aftertaste part so I’d brine those fillets in water salt and fresh ginger for 3 or 4 hours then onto a hot grill over mesquite. I would probably baste with fresh lemon and sprinkle some Tony Chachere’s on it while it cooks. Anyway, great vid!

When we got abura bozu from Japan we usually made miso yaki.... I think the best preparation for this fish.... Just make sure to use saikyo miso, little bit sake and mirin... Marinated it for 3 days
