Omg your zombie rooster story and the rooster crowing nonstop after had me cracking up. 😂 love your stories!
I'm having chicken salad for dinner tonight! perfect timing lol
How wonderful to get a surprise rooster! You can grow your own chicks!
We use a finely chopped tapioca to thicken our fruit pies. It's the way my grandmother taught me. She was born in 1898. My favorite pie is goose berry sliced warm with vanilla ice cream.
I just got over having covid and today is my birthday. So I cooked up my supper and celebrated by eating my birthday dinner while watching you. Totally enjoyed it. Thanks for all the great stuff you do and share with us. I also spent the 4th with you. As Canada Day July 1st I was too sick to celebrate. I agree with Justine. Apple pie is too chunky 🤣🤣🤣💞

Happy birthday! Sorry that I am late, but a birthday week is better than just one day. : ) I hope that you are feeling better every day.
My wife has for years made a delicious vinegar pie. You might try it sometime. It was made in the 18th century.
Oh my I’m busting a gut laughing so hard! 😂🤣😂🤣Justine talking about her relatives! You two are such a perfect match!
We lived near Charleston south Carolina for a few years. Had a large back yard. Adopted some 14 chickens and a rooster. Didn't have nesting boxes etc..we let the grass grow kinda deep in one section of the yard and every day was like an easter egg hunt! We had to smash up oyster shell and add to the feed /food. Chickens favorite music is Yohan Sebastion Bach! Bach Bach..i swear!

A rooster crows to annouce his superiority and to warn other roosters away. Chickens mate every day of the year. But its up to you on whether you want a hen to set the eggs, how many eggs for her to set. Rhode Island Reds usually don't set on eggs (get broody). One of your hens might get broody. If she does she might hide her nest and seem to disappear for the incubation period of the fertilized eggs.
I LOVE Medieval Times. The food, the show, the horses. Such a wonderful experience. 10/10
I won several 1st place awards with my Maple Oatmeal coconut pecan pie 🥧..
Hey Patriot Friends! Southeast Texas checking in. Today, it was 105 in the shade and 115 yesterday in the shade. The weather station said 97 but my thermometer on my covered patio said 115 and the indoor cooling system couldn't keep up with the extreme heat. It was cooling down to 75. We're supposed to see a "cooling" trend for about 7 days but back up the temps go. Stay cool, stay hydrated and if you get too hot, run cool water over your wrists and a cloth soaked in cool water draped around your neck and atop your head. It's what we use in the field to stave off exhaustion and stroke.
Hahahaha! How funny it was sooo quiet until u made the rooster noise! Love the rooster 🐓
What a tasty looking summer dinner! How nice that you two had a fun vacation full of food, family and fun! We have a Medieval Times here in Myrtle Beach South Carolina and we go at Christmastime every year. Instead of apple, try an applesauce pie. Its creamy and delicious. Welcome to the new rooster.
Thank you for your blessing for us and I pray a return blessing for you both in Jesus' name, amen. xx Jean from Scotland.
My Grandmother had Polish chickens. They were black bodies and white heads and I thought they looked like an Orchestra conductor. LOL
I went to Medieval Times in Kissimmee, Florida several years ago. Everything you eat with your fingers. It was wonderful. I thought it was one of the best shows I’ve ever been to.
You have no idea how much I look forward to watching you make food, Justine! Watching this before I go to bed at night and I love how calming and just amazing it is. I wanted to ask, Do you have refrigeration at the cabin? And do you guys live full-time there? I have some other questions but I forgot them ha ha ha… I’ll remember at some point!
Hello from the UK. Try stewing your apples first. Pop your cut apples in a pan that has a lid add a couple of tablespoons of water and stew with the lid on. Once soft add your sugar butter and whatever. Then add to your pastry. Apple pie is my favourite
I absolutely love your channel. I've been cooking Early American ( Colonial Cooking) for most of my life. I'm 79 years old. Thank you for your wonderful 2 channels. Blessings, Ann

Hey Miss Ann...blessings back atcha!!!! We're all blessed with these two arent we?
It's a cooler day here in Bavaria Germany, which has not been the norm the last few weeks. It has been hot here, and we too don't have air conditioners. I got full just listening to how full you have been after eating all the family meals. Whew. This meal looked yummy. Definitely love pie, Pumpkin is my fave.
I have never heard of oatmeal pie! Will you make it soon? And... I bet they used lard in their pie crust. Thank you, lord Ron and lady Justine!! Strawberry/rhubarb and lemon meringue
Whatever kind of pie I am making I take a cup of the berries smash them and and add a 1/2 cup of water. In a saucepan heat Then add sugar mixed with corn starch. You stir it and cook it until it This is boiling. You then strain the berries from the sauce. That is what you use to cover fruits in your pie
My weather app says “feels like 106” I agree. Tried to work the garden early but really struggled even then. Good looking chicken salad!
I get so excited when i see there's a new video
Tapioca is a key ingredient to jelly the fruit juice in fruit pies. We are a family of cooks and bakers. My mom is a pie pro. Absolutely love your show!
Yes it's really hot here on NC. 104 + degrees all month long. It's misable.
it was 98 degrees yesterday and the feels like temp was 105 degrees. todays high was 90 but its around 78 now and raining. central illinois. love your videos dont stop making them.
Peach Cobbler is my favorite for sweet pie. Chicken Pot Pie for savory pie.
Weather in Branson, MO has been in the 100’s. Strawberry/rhubarb pie. Enjoy your videos.
I’m actually watching this on Sunday, January 7th, 2024 and we just finished cleaning up from a snow storm!
Excited about the new video.
I live in Florida and the feels like today was 105 🥵 So I can totally relate .
Ohhh girl it's been so HoTT here in Colorado omg we will be 104 on Sunday!!!! The swamp cooler can't keep up. I have a 22 month old baby girl and she keeps taking off her pamper and saying Mommy hot yuck hot. Lol I been thinking about you and Ron and the heat. Love you guys sending cool vibes from your #1 fans in Colorado. Favorite pie: Definitely Pumpkin pie 🥧😋
Lol that rooster is hilarious!
You will have to keep the chicks warm and under lights after hatching,or they will die at night drop exposure..How awesome you guys went to Illinois ! I was born there !
So blessed and thankful for the air conditioning, working hard to cool it down with 109°heat indexes, getting to 80° is wonderful....
My favorite pie for dessert is buttermilk pie..The first time I made it I ate the whole thing within a few days...I don't like buttermilk to drink but love it in anything else.

Yes I love butter milkpie too. But I don't like to drink it. Funny my dad like cornbread crumbled and buttermilk poured over it, but only my baby sister took after him with the cornbread and buttermilk. I have a cousin who don't like sweet milk or what most folks call whole milk but she love buttermilk put it on her cereal, somehow raisin bran and buttermilk poured over it, don't appeal to me, but she get a bowl pour in some raisin bran and pour buttermilk on it. That's the only kind she drink or use on her cold cereal. My dad if he worked 3to 11pm or worked late and was hungry, he was tired and didn't want to go to bed hungry. He'd get a bowl, crumbled up some cornbread, pour some buttermilk on top after his bath then go to bed. I tried it and nope I could not do it. I like egg custard pie but I love buttermilk pie better. Also buttermilk pound cake. It's good I stay busy. I'd eat buttermilk pie or a slice of buttermilk cake for breakfast with a cup of coffee. But my husband like my father don't like sweets, mines is not overly sweet, but still like to bake a buttermilk pie every week and a buttermilk pound cake once a month.🙂. For me they are addictive, the children help eat them. Good to know I'm not the only one who love buttermilk pie. Take care, God bless. ✌️🙌🌻🦋🖖. Love, respect and positivity always. Vee,Andrew, and family.🙂👋.
I love Middle Eastern food as well. My husband is Egyptian so I’ve gotten quite good and cooking the dishes and dessert. The stuffed cabbage or grape leaves they call Mashi in Egypt.
Derby pie from Kentucky is really good. It has a (walnuts) nut topping that is chopped finer than pecan pie. It also has chocolate in it.

I love oatmeal pie too, Justine! We called it poor man's pecan pie. My mother made it quite a few times when I was growing up. I think I might have to make one soon, since you reminded me of it!
Another award winning video! You two are so much fun! Cant wait until the next video. Love you guys!❤️🥰
It’s hot and muggy in Ohio also! Today better than the last two weeks! Welcome to Louie!! We call my granddaughter the Chicken whisperer. She loves her chickens.
I would not mind at all if you put a couple of fans in there by the camera!!!! I felt so bad for you sitting there in 100 degrees. Here in N California we get warm days but not the mugginess. Mornings and evenings are always cool and usually we get fog from the coast. Try to stay cool!!!! Love you guys! Also enjoyed hearing about your relatives, Justine!! Pumpkin pie!!!!

I identify with everything you said..... with this heat wave, I know I need to be up really early or stay up really late to be able to cook or do laundry. My poor air con running nonstop just to keep this place at 73 -74 deg. I'm picturing our power company execs gleefully rubbing their hands together, lol 🤣

From one Patricia to another! I've been meaning to make stuffed peppers....I have a new recipe for chicken enchilada stuffed peppers I'm wanting to try. Good summer food!
A rooster crowing constantly is a good thing if the noise does not bother you,. If he stops crowing then you know something is wrong or something has is attention, then you can go investigate. So having a rooster is as good as having an alarm. I think he will enjoy living with you & the hens . Plus if your rooster is in with your hens & you hear him first thing in the morning then you know your hens are fine . I think Ron really enjoys your cooking Justine 🙂. My favourite pie? I like Tweety pie & Magpie. I think my favourite pie would probably have to be blackberry pie. Did they ever bake 4 & 20 black birds in a pie in America or was that just England ? . Because that is a real pie from the old days. I enjoyed your video as usual 👍👍♥️♥️. I just checked it was not England it was France.
Key lime, pecan, pumpkin, and apple pie. I would love to try cake pie.

It’s hot where we are in middle Tennessee, too. We’re under a heat advisory the rest of this week. Enjoyed the Independence Day posts y’all shared. Justine, I love pie, too, and my favorite is a buttermilk or chess pie.😊♥️
Chicken salad and cold yummy potatoes sounds like a delicious summer meal to me. Your trip to Chicago to see the family was wonderful. Welcome to Louis (Louee) the rooster with the fancy feathers. It's not too hot out here in Philly. I have just as much difficulty as Ron does with selecting a favorite pie.....but I'll try. Dutch cherry crumb pie. Crumb pies are my favorite. Love those dutch crumb apple pies too. There are lots of Amish in Lancaster, PA. If you visit Philadelphia you got to go to Reading Terminal. The Amish occupy half the terminal with their bakeries, candy shops, luncheonette and loads of goodies, farm produce, meat, deli meats, etc. Its a wealth of Amish goodies in Center City Philadelphia. Love both of your channels.
The way they talk and everything ,they really look like they are from 1700's and i love it.
Pennsylvania has a big Amish population. That was so cool you got recognized at the Midevil place. They know good content. 😉
Always nice to have an unexpected visitor in the form of a rooster. He will protect your hens.
I'm so glad you talked about the chickens. I noticed 2 was missing. King Louie is a good addition. He'll watch over the hens.
The Rooster looks like Ru Paul styled his head feathers...
Hello Ron and Justine! Have just found both channels and watching for the first time. I love history, antiques and simple living, so I feel right at home! Terrible hot here in southern Indiana, so I'm doing chicken and rice with mushrooms in the crock pot. I'll be making a depression era shortcake recipe later.... with berries and cream of course! Justine, if you haven't tried it, you should make a Hoosier pie. Simple and delicious 😋

Catching up on old videos. I live 5 minutes away from Spring Valley. It is an awesome place!
HAPPY you had a lovely/safe trip 2 Chicago. They say that; 'The way 2 a man's heart, is through his stomach.' I figure that your family Justine, loved Ron, and wanted him to 'become' a part of the family. You're IN Ron! Sounds like; 'Spring Valley', has given you a beautiful template for your 'future' home. I will dream/pray along with you. I canNOT think of a lovlier couple to have this dream come through. As 4 your rooster showing up...in Chinese culture it is a sign of; Luck and Fortune. But with all the noise he has brought to your homestead, I think I would warn him; 'One more cock-a-doodle do...and you'll end up as stew.' LOL! Luved hearing of your travel adventures! I live in QC Can. and our temps are around 70F, days are cool in evening and worm but not hot during the day. Thanks 4 the Canada Day wishes! Health and God Bless! Hey to Albert! :) P.S. We R in blueberry season, so presently, it's blueberry pie!
Watching 7 months after you filmed and it's cold here in Maine! ❤️
Oh wow how cool looking forward to this can't wait already love it
my mom usually made soup from leftovers
My very favorite pie is Sour Cream Raisin Pie. My second favorite is Green Tomato Pie.
My favorite pie is rhubarb and chicken pot pie homemade. Well that’s two couldn’t decide 🥰
It's been very humid and HOT here near Allentown , Pa. By 6ish in the mornings it's been still 70 & 75. The older I get, I can't do hot and humid anymore. God Bless the people whom work outside in this heat. Makes you want to bring something for those workers.
Y'all were in my hood!!!! I used to work in Schaumburg before the pandemic.
The "jelly" in the pie is likely either corn starch or "clear-jel" (a modified food starch that's used when water bath canning pie filling).
Heat index was 105 today here in Florida. 😎🏖
Annddd… chicken pot pie, then chocolate pie, then key lime pie… then all other pies🥰🥰🥰🥰🙌🙌🙌🙌
Here’s an idea: next February tap a few maple trees and make syrup. I have 3 trees and love the process.
We have several Amish families here in south central Texas County, Missouri. I was in Houston, MO to pick up the mail for my office and saw Amish selling baked goods along the street. I bought two Apple pies and took them back to work to share. Well I cut them and they had ANTS BAKED INTO THEM. No more baked goods from those folks for me. We have two new families down the road from us now.
Hi Ron and Justine my favorite pie is lemon meringue and kool-aid , I love your video so much hope one day I'll be able to afford to visit your hometown and see all the beautiful sites, you should visit our beautiful state one day I'm from North Carolina and it's a beautiful place we have the ocean and the mountains .
It's almost midnight here in AR and it's cooled down to 85. The temps were 100 and heat index was awful. The chicken salad looks delicious!

My favorite pie is apple pie with that crumble on top. then second is Pumpkin
I think its warm everywhere!!! Its hot and humid in SD too!!! I am also on a group with people mostly from the UK and they are also experiencing record highs (100 degrees) 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 I personally am ready for fall 🍁🍁🍁🍁🎃🎃🎃🎃
I love the rooster 🐓 story!
You need to have that master craftsman honey of yours Justine, make you a treddle operated fan in the center of the room. You can treddle it while eating to cool you and keep the flies at bay😊
Here in state of Arizona the itemperature isover 113 degreeand our A/C and fans are running to keep our home cool down. We can't go outside or let our pets outside to play. Pets get 30 degrees hotter then a human and the blacktop so hot can cook a egg in 2 mins.
Apple is my favorite followed by Strawberry Rhubarb and Chicken Pot pie. I slice my apples in the food processor. I do it because I hate goopy pie fillings.
Hi Ron and Justine, So glad you guys enjoyed your time in Chicago. I just wanted to comment on Chicago, which is where I was born and raised and have never left..and I'm just about to hit the half century mark. Thought to let you know that Chicago was a part of the Algonquin Tribe and Chicago translates to "onion" or "striped skunk". I've never heard of it ever being called a swamp. I do know that a majority of this City has been under water at some point many moons ago. As a matter of fact, several of my family members are buried at Roseland Cemetery, which used to be wetlands. Its location is at Western & Ravenswood and is a bit of a distance from the Lake, but all if that area was under sea level at some point. Thanks again for sharing yesterday's Independence Day celebration at Ste. Genevieve, it was definitely touching. God Bless the United States of America 🇺🇸

There are a lot of Amish in PA. They cook and bake with love. What is oatmeal pie? You will need to make it .Justine do you like apple fry pies? Chocolate or Butterscotch are 2 of my favorites. But if I stop by an Amish market I look for the shoe fly pie.
Ah,you bring back memories ! Midevil times ! A true feast with dinning and jousting !
