    Was looking into mics that can provide phantom power on their own - like the MKE 600 from Sennheiser or the Rode VideoMic NTG. But this device is a nice little option that extends the range of mics to consider A LOT. Thanks for sharing! And btw: high quality content - very well made video!

    Hello! I loved this video. I do have one question though: I really want to purchase this item, but I want to know if it is compatible with my camera. It is a Sony ZV-1F, a vlogging camera. Will it still work if I turn the audio recording level to 1? Thanks!😊😊

    Awesome video, love how you shared all the different options! Question, do you recommend an XLR shotgun more than a regular Rode that connects straight to the camera? And if so, why?

  • @IsomPhilips

    I have a Rode NTG2 and a Videomic NTG. Compared to the Videomic NTG the NTG2, an XLR mic sounds much fuller and cleaner. Generally you'll get a better quality of sound with XLR shotgun mics but it depends on the use. For making KZread videos small shotgun camera mounted mics work just fine. XLR mics are preferred for more critical, professional work. Thanks for watching!

    This is very helpful as im getting closer to starting a podcast. My question is what if you want more than one mic settup and more than one camera settup. How would this apply or is there a more expansive line of equipment that will be needed. I'm looking for the most inexpensive startup without eliminating too much quality. Any help or suggestions would be great! Thank you for the info! Liked and subscribed!

    Thinking what you want to do would require a mixer or some form of Podcast hardware or software. Do a search of KZread for some possible solutions. I've yet to try to set up a multiple camera/mic Thanks for watching!

    Hey. This video was really helpful, Great content to help with some trouble I've been having. Can I ask your advice in context? I have a Canon 700d and want to use a RODE Podmic for some talking head shots. Do you think this sardonic method will work as expected with this equipment and the TRRS to TRS adaptor. Thank you. - Allan

    Hello Isom, Thanks for such a nice video, this is exactly what I have been looking for. I would like to ask you can this Saramonic preamp can be used (is it good enough) in professional settings? I am planning to order this (after watching your video) and use it along with Daity S mic 2S XLR mic as an on camera mic. What do you think about this setup ? Also, which XLR on camera setup you would suggest for a solo documentary filmmaker ? Thanks a lot...

  • @IsomPhilips

    @IsomPhilips

    The Saramonic is not going to give you the same results as a pro quality preamp. It's designed more for simple set ups like for KZread videos. It definitely would work with the setup you mention but you might want to look around for some better options such as this one from Comica amzn.to/3kyXNhR. This would be a better option for your specific use. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

    I have a regular shotgun mic with 3.5mm jack I plug into a camcorder. I want to use a preamp for better audio. I dont understand why all the preamps I see have XLR inputs when all the mics I see (including mine) are 3.5mm. Do I just need an XLR to 3.5mm adapter?

    Yes, just make sure the phantom power is turned off and boost the gain a little higher for the low level signal from a dynamic microphone. The SM58 should sound great. Thanks for watching!

    Great video and info. I have the Canon M50 as well. Any advice on how to add headphones to this setup to monitor sound. I’m definitely ordering the saramonic pre-amp. I have the zoom H6 as well and I use the line out option you spoke of but this would definitely be very useful and streamline my setup when I don’t have my H6 with me. Thanks again for the info. Edit : Wow , disregard that question. I just clicked on the link and see that it also has a headphone input jack…game changer! Thanks again!

    Hey Isom, just to confirm as I wasn't sure what I was listening, that you set your camera's preamp to a value of 1 (just above 0), so that your camera defaults to using your Saramonic as preamp. Can you please explain the logic behind on how the camera knows to default to selecting Saramonic as preamp in this case? Sorry as I just gotten my first camera like a month ago, so am pretty much in the dark about a lot of things still. Take care until we speak! :)

  • @IsomPhilips

    @IsomPhilips

    2 жыл бұрын

    You are essentially bypassing Camera's preamp by setting it to such a low level so the mic level will have to be set on the Saramonic preamp. It all depends on the level set on each device. Hope that makes sense. Enjoy your new camera and thanks for watching!

    @@IsomPhilips Thanks Isom. Just one last thing. Sorry to drag this further. Someone mentioned if one were to plug: 1. an end of audio chain into 3.5mm mic socket of the camera, so that recording of audio and video is done simultaneously within the camera, rendering no syncing of audio and video necessary in post. Then, this would result in loss of audio quality, no matter how good a field recorder, microphone one's using in the chain. versus 2. Having audio recorded separately on a field recorder and mic not connected to camera, aided with a visual cue like clapping during recording. This would render syncing of video and audio necessary in post, but at least the audio quality would not be lost from the quality of mic and field recorder used, as the end of audio chain doesn't end in the 3.5mm socket of the mic input of a camera. Q: Can you confirm if this is true of what that someone has mentioned?
