Hi Alex, I am struggling with this massively. Can you tell me exactly when you start to bow your wrist in the backswing? Is it at the top or at the point where you hinge your wrist? Thanks!

Loved this video and taking it to the training ground tomorrow. I want to ask though and probably think this is bragging but so be it. I live in Iceland and have had good teachers(2), both former national team golfers. Love them both but as they are not in Iceland all the year I need to get a teacher to meat my ambition. Ok hear goes, I started playing golf at the age of 46 or last year. First handicap round was on may the 12th 2021. Today I have played for almost 14 months and as you know you start at 54 hcp and my hcp is now 17,1. People are saying well done etc and I dont know how to take that but say thank you but my problem is I am not happy. There are some things in my game that need improvement and even though I have only played for 14 months my ambition is clear, I am going to 0 hcp and I am going there before I am 50. Many think probably he is full of him self etc but I dont care, this is my goal, this is my ambition and I AM getting there. My biggest problem is actually finding a golf teacher that isn´t just booking 30 minutes and bringing on his/hers material they teach all others. I want a golf teacher that is excited about this, someone that says, I´m his teacher, he started at 46 yrs old and he is here today. If I where a teacher I would brag about this as I know it is unusual or so I´ve heard to go down to 17,1 in 14 months, also I got a hole in one as well just 2 weeks ago, quite happy about that lucky shot :). But my question is, why is it so hard to find a golf teacher that is excited about teaching someone at my age? Is it just the age because I am never going pro which btw is NOT my goal. Just wondering why it is so hard to find some one as enthusiast as I am to get a good result for an older beginner and I have to say I am very frustrated about this. Great videos btw, love to see them :)

Thanks Alex. This is a feeling I can work into my pre shot routine and practice. My coach has got me working on the feeling of holding the face open a bit more after impact as I tend to get to active with my hands and have to fight a pull hook. I like the idea of letting your rotation release the club. That makes so much sense to me. I can pretty much get rid of half of the swing fix videos I have stored here just with this short one. Thank you so much.

Cheers from San Antonio, TX USA!! Great video as always, Alex. One key move that is not mentioned here is the proper shoulder tilt, particularly on the way down into impact. I feel that slicers turn their right shoulder towards the target too quickly and with a flat tilt. When this occurs, the proper wrist movements and face manipulations will not prevent coming over the top or cutting across the ball. Coming into impact with a low right shoulder makes these finer points work to improve ball striking. Thanks again, Alex.

Had to watch this three times. Worked this out in my den in slo-mo, now I’ll work on this tomorrow morning in 30 degree weather! This makes so much sense. In business or science or biblical study, it often helps to start at the end or the desired result. I had been working on your lesson to turn the thumbs behind you. Now I’ll try wringing the towel to get to the desired impact position. Let me say.... “you’re good”. Merry Christmas Alex!

I've played some scratch golf my whole life using a weak grip, with a roll release. However, my bad days were plagued with fats, and thins. I've felt this bowed left wrist feeling on the range, and the strike and ball flight is amazing. I haven't practiced it enough though to get my direction down pat, but this is something I plan to practice when the weather warms back up. Great video!

Hey Alex, now funnily enough, believe it or not even though I'm having lessons; this wrist motion has never been mentioned before and through self development I've hit upon it, then did a search to see if it's a thing and bingo your video appeared in my search. This for me was a game changer, it's made me so much stronger and consistent at impact even though I'm still trying to perfect it. The funny thing about this is that initially it felt very weak and felt as if the club was wide open until i understood the mechanics of what it was doing. This just reaffirmed that i'm doing exactly what I should be doing. I'm curious why you say not to have it as a swing thought though?? I use it as my only swing thought...to think flat wrist at the top and it's been working a treat for me...especially with my woods....so much stronger.

Do we keep the wringing position all the way to/through impact? Naturally the hands will automatically move after impact, but should we feel as tho we are doing that motion down the entire swing? Or should we "physically" do something in the last minute? Today, just swinging in my living room i noticed if i "unhinge" or "cast" my wrists forward in the last minute, the club speed increased alot. Should i not do that, should i keep my wrists in that wringing position all the way to the ball and let them unfold naturally?

Hey Alex, good vid. I know this is the correct wrist position but have struggled getting it "natural" for years. Is there a reason why you should not "preset" your wrists in the position? If you do that, all you do is simply take your back swing and then bring it back to set up position in the down swing. I am having success doing this (more with the short and mid irons but less with the driver), but am concerned I may be going down the wrong path long term. It seems like an easy and obvious fix though, so I'm wondering why nobody has ever done a video on it. Any thoughts?

I like the wringing it analogy. I’ve been doing that in an attempt to keep from flipping at impact. I knew the feeling but didn’t know what to call it. Ha. I do have to think about on the course tho otherwise the flip raises its ugly head.

I don't think I get the wringing the towel bit? When you wring a towel, your wrists work against each other, but the movements here are about turning your wrists the same way, and tilting your thumbs the same way?

Why can't you do the "towel wringing" wrist motion at the beginning of the backswing? I don't like thinking about doing anything with my wrists at the top of the backswing. For me, it encourages swinging from the top.

Downswing is half a second, and you can't "feel" anything with your wrist during that time...if you have played for any amount of time your swing is ingrained, you can't change that in half a second. The only thing you can change to possibly play better is in your set up at address, and your grip before you swing. Your swing is-what it is. Also, possibly a fitting will put you in the right golf shaft where the fitter can set you up with a shaft that meets the ball more squarely, based on your swing speed and angle of attack. But your swing is too quick to think of anything but hitting the ball.
