I’m 6 feet tall,175 lbs and quite strong but simply did not know the technique. After riding Harley’s for the past 20 + years I simply forgot, if I ever really learned. Based on my earlier experience of trying to get my recently purchased F6B on the center stand it appears I never really knew how. After trying I few times I settled for the kick stand over blowing a gut. Half way through your video I paused it and went to the garage and applied your teachings. I’ll be damn!! It worked. So, I took it off and tried again and it was even easier. Thank you for saving me from making a trip to the corner drug store for Preparation H....

Watched a couple of these videos and thought I could do it, wrenched my back trying so I watched the ones that said “you are doing it wrong “ and would swear I was doing it right. BUT…I was putting rearward pressure on the grab bar instead of pulling straight up while I stepped on the center stand tang. I couldn’t believe how simply it went onto the stand then. Now it’s just as easy for me as the video. Thank you!

My new GL1800 DCT arrived today (5th March) and after putting it up on the centre stand I realised that it was much easier than my old 2016 wing. I think it is also more of a matter of confidence and applying the correct technique as described in your video.

One tip I can add is having on a good pair of work boots or riding boots with stiff soles makes things a little more comfortable on the ball of your foot. With soft soled shoes, the center stand lever can leave a bruise. I take an aspirin every day, and seem to bruise easier than in my younger days. Oh, and thanks for all your helpful videos, Max. I finally got a new airbag DCT model from Niehaus, and will be picking it up when the weather clears.

I had trouble for a long time until I learned to put both feet down before lifting it has been easy ever since. I actually find it takes more effort to take it off the stand than to put it on. I have added a ride on/off center stand so now it is all done by the bike. The downside is that the rear tire stays on the ground which means you can't spin it to get to the valve stem to check the air pressure.

My newest bike is '13 R1200GS LC BMW and the ease of centerstand use is directly related to the "rear shock electronic settings." Two Helmet setting lifts the rear shock preload and the centerstand is easy. One Helmet setting lets rear ride 1.8" lower empty and the centerstand is twice as hard to use.

I had a GL1500 and a ST1100 and the best advice I ever received when taking any bike off the centre stand is to turn the bars away (to the right) It provides a great deal of confidence when the bike comes down on its wheels. I currently have a VFR800x which has been lowered. I shortened the side stand but the centre stand is original...… Now that's an effort to get up ! Way harder than the other bigger bikes; all got to do with physics. I have employed this raising technique for years as there is no way I could get eve the 800 up on the centre stand any other way. It is amazing how many people struggle with this. Same old saying, ask questions because someone else will be wondering too. No harm in refreshing the technique in this manner. Well done.

Waiting for delivery of a new Goldwing B and watched your video which KZread guided me to. I had a new biker who had hadn't long started riding bikes and came along for a ride I was doing, first thing he did when we stopped was put side stand down, then put his foot on the center stand while it was leaning on side stand and preceded to try and manhandle the bike onto the center stand with obviously only one part of the center stand touching. I stopped him and explained how it is done, same way as you have so well described, so anyone wondering watching your video that knows how it's done properly, don't think it's crazy people don't the technique, because there are some out there that don't know. Good explanation, I've always had big bikes and never had trouble getting bike on the center stand using the technique you have demonstrated.

Max - great video. I do this frequently with my bike. I will suggest (not entirely sure if you mentioned it) that it is a good idea to wear something on your feet with a good solid sole to protect your right foot from the pressure of the center stand. I did it once with sneakers on and my foot was quote sore for days afterward. So good solid footwear is important. Never attempt in sneakers or soft soles would be my two cents worth.

My 88 Gl1500 goes up so easy. I am always on it when I take it down tho. Not because of fear of the weight, but because I am usually going riding. It is always on center stand in my garage or on my bike lift, which I can also put up and down alone. The only bike I fought with and not due to my size, but probably the position of stand maybe, was my 86 Yamaha Venture 1300. Could not do alone. Thanks for video.

My suggestion for a less scary or risky method to take it off the center stand: Mount the bike while it's on the center stand using the left foot peg to climb aboard - the peg and stand are plenty strong and the bike won't tip. Then stand up with both feet on the ground, briefly lifting your butt off the seat, and just push the bars forward. You can then deploy the side stand like you normally would from your riding position.

Oh, I wish it was a simple as this! My '03 is absolutely NOT easy to put on the centerstand. I have struggled with it many times and nowadays only do it when I MUST have it on the centerstand. Don't get the idea I'm a lightweight. I'm 5'11", 230 pounds. I do everything I can think of that would help: rear shock set to 25; front tire aligned with the centerline of the bike; transmission in neutral; both feet of the centerstand evenly contacting the floor; apply my bulk to the foot pedal while lifting on the grab bar. For added assistance, I will pull rearward using my left hand on the Texelent Bar mounted between my handle bars. Even with doing everything properly, and this video confirms that, I have to get very aggressive and rock the bike a bit to get it up on the stand. Aggressiveness is also required to get it off the stand. I put the kickstand down, stand on the RIGHT side of the bike, and rock the bike to get it off the centerstand. I haven't needed the safety measure of the kickstand down to catch the bike yet, or even know if it would help in an emergency, but I guess it gives me the warm fuzzies. I prefer to have the help of someone to assist me, but that's not always possible I was at a friend's house where we were going to replace my crazed windshield with one he gave me (yes, I have very generous friends). As he prepared to put the my bike on the centerstand, I warned him it was going to a challenge. After he made the first attempt and failed, I jumped in and helped him. He said, "Wow, that was tough! I have never seen one so difficult." It was nice to have the affirmation, but I would rather it work like "... any GoldWing since the dawn of time."

Here are things to check: Are you the original owner? 1. If not, did someone change the linkage (dogbones) on the bike to lower it for a shorter rider? 2. Did someone put a car tire on the bike? If neither of those things are on the bike, then I would suggest the centerstand is bent and should be replaced.

I was able to do it twice with my 110 lbs 5'2 body, (150 cc scooter) once Both feet on the stand was touching the ground. I was Super Frustrated because I saw tons of "easy" ways to do this and none worked but None of them talked about two feet firmly planted on the ground. I don't know why That should make such a big difference but it did for me. Thanks.

I'm on a 2008 GL1800 at 5'10" 208lbs nearing 70yrs old, and have just one comment regarding shoes. I used to be able to toss my bike up on the center stand with any footwear even flip-flops, however.. many years later I have to use hard soles, or better yet my riding boots on in order to keep that stand pad from hurting my foot. In soft shoes I can _still do it_ , but then say "damn that hurts".

Ever have more luck putting it on the center stand? I've got an 03 and I'm six foot and two hundred pounds and even following all these methods and using a board it's still a bear to get on the center stand and I've worked construction all my life and still in great shape. My 03 does not go on the center stand like they show. I'm now waiting on an easy off center stand and hope that will help me!

@@BeauGeste49 No. I'm still convinced that some bikes are easier than others to get up on the center stand. Certainly the right technique helps, but that doesn't mean the right technique makes every bike easy to get up.

I'll try again. I'm 5'5" and 130#, with a pretty slight build. On a 1996 1500, even when I put my full weight on the stand lever (with both stand legs down), and lift on the rear handle with all my strength (not even touching the handlebars), it will not "go over" the pivot point. If I roll the bike onto a 3/4" piece of wood, it slides up like cake. I just can't get it to go "up and over" without a little extra lift off the rear suspension. But I've never dropped it, so there's that. ;-) 40+ years of riding Gold Wings, and haven't dropped one in the last 20+ years.

Max, your videos are all excellent. As for the placing the of the bike on the center stand, that is how I do it but have a lot of difficulty. The bike must be on level surface and I use both feet with a great deal of effort. Could it be that I am only 5'5 and 165 lbs.? I am 78years old but my strength is still good. One thing I think I noticed is that maybe you don't push straight down on the stand but my be pressing from slightly rearward. I am going to give it a try. Thank you for all of the great tips.
