    I’m new to watercolor and currently have very limited access to art supplies - I have to make it work with what I have which is why i appreciate your technique of selecting only 3, 4 or 5 paint colors then using them to create all the other colors you need. It’s also practical color theory!

    Rae, I'm interested to see how you use white paper to create lines/highlights on this rosebud. Can you expand on how you choose where to use this please? I have noticed the technique on other paintings like your protea. It creates an iluminous effect.

  • @helencampbell

    @helencampbell

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi. Essentially, the paper is the white, as you know. So I will just use a lighter wash around the areas that I want to keep white or want to retain. In order to have, it looking more realistic, I use a plain water glaze when the paint is dry just to go over the white areas to take the whiteness out of them in order to make them look more realistic. I hope this makes sense.

It came about after our devastating bushfires of 2019, where we lost a lot of flora and fauna in the fires - one of the flowers they are trying to save is actually a type of wild daisy, and I hope they succeed because daisies are so pretty! Can you explain the difference between the spotter brushes and a regular small brush? How is a 0 spotter different from a size 0 brush? Also, I see SP stands for smart point. What is and what does a brush with a smart point do and when would one use it. I really enjoy watching you paint. Your paintings are beautiful!

  • @helencampbell

    @helencampbell

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi. Where is SP please? Spotters have shorter bristles so the watercolour paint is easier to apply. In terms of size, I suppose the point would be the same but obviously a zero in one brand is possibly different from a size 0 in another. I find that a zero size spotter makes the application easier than a general zero size because with a normal brush you would just have a few hairs but with a spotter the point makes it easier to apply
