    Fenbendazole is not an antibiotic. It is a dewormer. I was using it for gapeworm in my chickens. After the first 5 day treatment you should wait 10 days and repeat the treatment for 5 days again to catch any worm stages that weren't killed by the initial treatment. I have found that most poultry keepers suggest preventative treatments should be spring and fall in the northeast due to the conditions that favor the worms.

    This form of fenbendazole is not water soluble. It is not able to treat effectively. You actually have to administer the paste on bread or give each chicken a capsule of powdered fenbendazole. I'm just informing that this isn't doing anything for the problem and is wasting money. Poultry de-wormer 5x is the powdered capsule form. Best wishes.

    Hi, I am sorry to hear that. Sometimes if it goes on for too long, the bird will pass. I do not know much about treating for gapeworm. I do know that if you notice any worms or eggs inside the egg of the chicken, it is considered a bad case. This product is not a powder, it is a concentrated liquid.

  • @twiggshomestead6497

    @twiggshomestead6497

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes, the treated water should be the only source of water for them so you know that every bird has been treated. You do not have to replace it every day. Just give it a good mix daily. If you have an open water source like a bowl or pan, you should change that daily. I mix 5 gallons at a time so it lasts my birds a while.

    Ill try and worm them once per year if I do not notice any worms. They stop laying for a few months before winter sets in. Timing the wormer with that time of year/ cycle seems to be less wasteful with the withdrawal period.

  • @twiggshomestead6497

    @twiggshomestead6497

    Жыл бұрын

    Hey Joey, No this will not hurt them at all if they don't have worms, in fact, many chicken keepers will give this treatment to them annually as a preventative just in case they do have worms and are not showing signs. I discard the eggs for 2 weeks just to be sure. I did use the eggs for some local stray cats to help them out. I also used the eggshells in my hot compost pile. Not 100% sure if that was a good idea. My thought is; the residual dewormer will integrate into the egg shells, carry through the composting process, into the garden soil, up the root system, and into my veggies but I highly doubt it being dangerous at such a low dosage.

    How many days are you going to toss out the eggs after the 5 day treatment? Also, do you plan on doing a second treatment to make sure that you also kill the worm eggs that would also be in the chickens ready to hatch even after the 1st round of 5 day treatment killed the adult worms?

  • @twiggshomestead6497

    @twiggshomestead6497

    Hi! Thanks for the great questions! I spoke with my local vet on that before I did the treatment and he said 10-14 days based on the length of time they were treated for and the strength of the dosage. I toss them for 12 days and have never noticed any issues. I do perform the treatment a second time 2-3 weeks after the initial dose. Stinks to toss that many eggs for so long but, it's a sure-shot way to worm your flock.
