Easy Quilting with Your Embroidery Machine

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Pamela Hayes from Hayes Sewing Machine Co located in Wilmington DE, will show you how to quilt with your embroidery machine! This technique is when you have your quilt top pieced, and layered with your batting and backing, you can put all 3 layers into your embroidery hoop, and using an outline quilting embroidery design, quilt through all of your layers! This in essence "quilts" your quilt. A lot of machines have some outline quilting designs built-in but you can also purchase them as downloads, on cds, and on USB-sticks to add to most embroidery machines. These designs can be basic or intricate - that's up to you!

If this is the 1st time you're trying this technique, using a quilt cheater cloth is a great way to practice without investing a lot of time and effort. We have some available on our Etsy store at the link below.

    I am going to have to try this. Just to be clear, you have hooped the top patterned layer, the batting and the backing. Do you have any stabilizer or just the quilt in the hoop? Is this a lot of fabric for the hoop? I have a Flourish 2.

  • @HayesSewingMachineCo

    @HayesSewingMachineCo

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes, we have the quilt top, the batting, and the backing all in the hoop with NO stabilizer. No, not too much fabric, you can do this in the Flourish 2, you'll just have to loosen up your screw a lot more than you're used to.

  • @HayesSewingMachineCo

    @HayesSewingMachineCo

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes, you always want to use a stabilizer when embroidering. I would recommend fabri-solvy since the quilt is already made. That way when you wash it, the stabilizer will disappear.

    The embroidery machine puts knots/tails on the back. If that gets cut, all the stitching comes unraveled. I cant give that to a customer or child. Please explain how to deal with this issue.

  • @HayesSewingMachineCo

    @HayesSewingMachineCo

    3 жыл бұрын

    If I'm using a home embroidery machine, and you want the back to look neater, do not cut the bobbin thread short. Pull the bobbin thread up through your fabric to the top. Holding both threads, sew 3-4 stitches. Stop the machine. Cut the threads manually. Then resume stitching. If you want to really secure, leave the tails long and hand feed them in between the top and the bottom layer of your quilt. You can also try putting a few drops of fray check in that spot to secure the stitches (however this may show on your fabric).
