I'd love to see a video for Prime. I couldn't remember if the other apps have a desktop app but having the ability to edit while on a desktop would make it easier to see on a larger screen and speed up the workflow programming midi changes. Also my philosophy is it's easier and cheaper have back ups or replace an iPad vs a full laptop, plus you have the added utility of using it for merch sales.

Enjoyed this video as usual. I find great value in your reviews regardless of the fact that many of them don't apply to my particular performing circumstances (keyboards, windows, premixed backing tracks as MP3"s). I have made purchases as a result of your thorough reviews though. Always appreciate the little video inserts you do over your static monologue which shows that you understand that KZread is a "video" platform. I hate the 20 minute "videos" of talking heads with the occasional cut to a side view or perspective change of several feet of the same scene! Actually laughed out loud at the "walking on eggs" insert regarding making drummers happy. I don't remember seeing that before. Keep up the good work! You're definitely redefining the term "infotainment".

Great Video, Scott. For my band, we use a similar approach. However, we use a Tascam US-16x08 as multi-channel output device that is connected to an Ipad that runs Stage Traxx 3. The Tascam is significantly cheaper. It has more analog channels than Track Rig, but has fewer Midi capabilities.

Great video as usual! I think the track rig is too expensive for what it does and add a lot of cables on stage, but the Prime app is fantastic, I use it with that split cable you mentioned so at least I have a small amount of individual volume control even though it all goes to mono in the PA...but the free version has a limitation of 300 MB of storage...

Hi Scott. Interesting device. We are a 4 piece band and we use XR18 for IEM + Cubase for backing tracks (keys, effects, fill guitars and back vox). I run my vocal and guitar through Cubase for effects and automation (and back into XR18 through USB). If I wanted to split all channels for FOH mixing would I have to use a splitter for the analog stuff and this device for the channels coming out of Cubase? I guess in that case I would have to use ASIO4ALL to use this device an XR18 simultaneously from my computer. Thanks!!!

Hello Scott, I just discovered your KZread channel. I am very excited about your videos. I am also currently working on the topic of backing tracks. Now I have a question. You use a X32 Rack mixer. This has a sound interface with 32in/outs. With a laptop and Daw it should be possible to route the different backing tracks to inputs on the mixer. Have you tried this?

I’ve upgraded to an iPad mini, I believe 6th generation. That has a USB C output, which is nice. The one I had for this was an older iPad about 5 years ago that had the lighting input (but still has the headphone output)
looks interesting, but how is this a better solution to output the stems from Stage Traxx iPad to a digital mixer over USB... especially at this price point?
@ScottUhlMusic

If you have usb into a mixer, and you run the sound for FOH with that mixer, then yeah you can do that. This is great if you don’t have that option and/or you need to split the signal to FOH 👍

I’ve seen a bunch of your backing track (and IEM gear) videos over the past couple of days, and the question that I haven’t yet seen answered is this: are you able to do double or triple duty with an iPad running backing tracks? It would be cool if they did a track rig "light" that got rid of the USB hub and made it cheaper. $USD500 is a little steep for an interface that only does outputs. For example, the Berhringer UMC1820 is $USD299 and has 8 in and 10 out right out of the box. Granted it's1/4 inch outputs though

With a laptop I’m pretty sure you could. With an iPad, That I’m not sure. My advice is that a lot of people want every single track separated. Keys, strings, brass, synth, electric piano, violin… all on separate channels. My advice is to consolidate. It makes your life easier. I don’t know everyone’s setup, but 8 channels should be more than adequate in the majority of situations. Just my two cents.

@ScottUhlMusic I already group alot of stuff to stereo pairs. I'M using a x32 rack and ipad running Cubassis 3 currently. My band are a symphonic black metal band we use alot of tracks for samples, keys, strings, synth pads, and all of the orchestral arrangements, etc. we also do our drum tracks for a rather large kit using superior drummer samples trying to give it enough outputs to allow foh to mix it like its a live acoustic kit it is very easy to use over 16 outputs drums alone could use all 16 outs if we did it the way we truely want then you add cues, talk back mic, click, backup rythem guitar track to thicken the sound and harmony vocal spoken naration ect. I'm fairly certain I could easily use 32 track outputs up and still need to group alot of it down to stereo pairs. Maybe those new midas stage connect racks would give me access to the p16m ultranet outputs to gain enough channels 24 output channels in the x32 rack +16 from the ultranet would bring me up to 40 outs and I could use art s8 splits to separate it from foh just thinking outloud here

This just gets 8 inputs to the house, then you adjust your in-ear setup accordingly. So instead of having to adjust just the Tracks and Click channels, you would have 8 other channels to adjust, but you can do each individually. And........ the sound person can adjust the EQ settings for each of the 8 tracks, not just one generic for the combined Tracks channel.
