Easy Motion Sensor Positioning Fix for Ring Floodlight (2nd Gen) Eaves Installation

Update Note: This video is for the Floodlight Camera (2nd Gen) purchased in 2019, prior to all the newer Pro / Plus models. From view comments, it has also been confirmed that this method will NOT work on 1st Gen Floodlight Cameras.
Just a brief video on how to resolve the motion detector angle on the Ring Floodlight Camera for a horizontal (under an eave) installation with minimal effort and NO PERMANENT MODIFICATION! Ring has been found to say it is possible only to immediately change their stance in the same comment thread. The retailer I purchased it from indicates that it can be mounted horizontally under. Thanks for watching!

    You are one smart diyer I just bought the flood cam was dumbfounded about mounting it under the eve. Seen other vidz where mods were made to the camera. For warranty purposes I was considering. Then I saw yours.. And I'm glad I did. 👍🏾 edit: only concern now is how the floodlights are limited to their angle this position.

    I could not have said it better. Pure brilliance! I watched the dremil tool video too and thought, That’s not right. There has to be a better way to fix this. This video should get top billing not that other one. No warranty voided here!

    Thanks for video tip. It got me started down path to solution. The Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Plus I purchased 2022-11 has a different collar design, but the methods described in this video still lead to adjustment solution for eave (horizontal) mount. It is frustrating to find that Ring Support (chat and phone) had NO IDEA how to eave-mount their device. Even though the specs page on their device, AND the paper insert in pkg clearly stated "eave mount". Ring supplied NO diagram, on paper, or on web. It was clear (to me) that camera angle would be wrong, without mod for eave mount. Of course, one could make a wedge-shaped j-box extender, but that is a pile-o-work, and should utilize non-flammable materials. (Some clever swap or rotation of floodlights might even result in light shade ending up long-side-up)

    Not sure about the Wired Plus but I was able to flip my light shades the right way round in the same fashion as the camera. Loosen the collars and see if they'll flip over.

    so you take that screw out and turn it 180 deg. when it's where it needs to be, do you put that screw back in?

  • @mercbait

    @mercbait

    3 жыл бұрын

    The screw comes out of the clamping collar. Once removed, there is enough tension released to pop the ball out of the socket. The screw goes back in to clamp the socket collar again once the ball is flipped 180 degrees and reinstalled.

    Got a bit of a problem. I purchased the Ring Cam Wired PRO version. It doesn't have all the things on the camera mount that you show on this version (appears to be maybe an early version of the Ring Cam Wired PLUS version). While the newer version allows me to move the camera and lights better so I can mount it on the soffit...the camera STILL points too low--any ideas on a fix for this version? Thanks!

    I'm in the same situation... Newest PLUS version has a different type of ball/socket joint than this and this wont work on it. Also, the shades on the lights are at the bottom of the light instead of top because of the new joints it has too. Advertised as being for under eave install, its even in the instructions. But the actual product cannot support it.

    There is a ridge that acts as a stopper that prevents 360deg rotation of the ball in the socket. You have to remove the ball from the socket to bypass the stopper. Jump to 2:43 to see

    Why not create one? I mean, GET a camera you want(any brand), buy flood lights, get nock outs, drill the hole, place the camera that you want, connect the wires(camera and flood light) and BOOM you have a camera with flood lights!!!
