Easy Mixed Media Abstract Art Tutorial - 2024 - 12

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Nothing helps me relax and become more mindfully present in the moment than creating intuitive abstract watercolor art. This tutorial is an easy process to follow for beginners and as I go along, I talk about some of the many ways we can use contrast to create visual interest in our artwork. I also share how I deal with my inner critic when it rears its little chatty head. I'd love for you to join me and I hope you will!

First time I've heard that inner critic is meant to protect us.😮

For us as adults, it tends to be more hindering than helpful, that's for sure 😉 But, when we were too young to make sense of the ways we were being criticized, hurt, rejected or neglected, the inner critic played a crucial role in helping us meet our basic needs of love, belonging and acceptance. This ''coping mechanism'' often times (it not always) carries into adulthood because it played such an important role in helping us cope when we were young. I consider it my wounded inner child and so I think it's important to acknowledge it when it shows up. I want it to feel heard and I look for ways be appease the wound with love, compassion and a rational assessment of the situation. Isn't it amazing how our minds and bodies work!? 💕 I really appreciate that you made the time to comment so we could connect on this. 🤗❤️

It is difficult to imagine that others feel the same self doubt and insecurity that we do ourselves. I agree with you that our inner critic is not simply a destructive judge that needs to be ignored. It is a part of ourselves that is trying to help us improve but can be a little direct in its delivery! Working with our inner voice and tempering it’s bluntness with reason, as you demonstrate, is far better but can be challenging to do. I love the painting and the idea of watery worlds! I paint a lot of night skies and nebulas and am fascinated by the drama of light in darkness. Thank you again for the ideas and for sharing your thoughts as you paint, you are amazing! Have a wonderful week B x 💙💫

💕🤗 Hi Bernice! I share because I hope someone else can connect to my experiences and feel less alone and maybe also more understood. What you say about not ignoring our inner critic is so true and so important! I find the more I connect with mine and use my discernment skills in assessing what it is sharing with me, the easier it becomes to make the criticism more quiet and gentle. ''The drama of light in darkness'' YES!!! What a great way to create contrast by observing what works in nature and recreating it in your artwork - LOVE it!! Thank you for sharing your perspective and ideas ❤️ And as always, I am so thankful for the gift of your kindness 🤗💕

Mwah to you too dear. I really enjoyed the process. I like the stripe though whole painting was Blue it created a nice balance against circles. For me, creating contrast, I like to do different doddles like zantangle design with glitter pen or if I want a subtle contrast, then use different shades of same colour with 1 area to pop with opposite spectrum. Thanks for sharing. ❤

How beautiful watching you breathe life into your magical world. Each planet has its own song that you have given it. Your inner critic should watch and learn imagination can paint a dream, awaken a story. Today you brought us magic, which was a joy to watch. Thank you for sharing. ❤❤❤

Thank you so much for your kind words and compassion 🤗💕 I think my inner critic is always watching and that's another reason I think it's important for me to acknowledge them. Checking in with the reason they showed up helps me figure out if what they are telling me makes sense at this point in my journey. And when it doesn't (and most times for us as adults it doesn't), we can say thanks for the warning, but I'm Ok and let me show you why it's ok for me (us) to move forward. This way, my inner critic (wounded inner child) generally feels appeased and gets quieter. Aren't our bodies and minds just the most amazing gifts?! 💝

I feel like the bands in the background are representative of the rings that keep us tethered to the universe/galaxy we are in. Without them we would just kind of fly off into the unknown! (maybe) I love creating contrast in my paintings with color values that play and tug at each other to give me a feeling of the space I am trying to convey. Thank you for sharing and giving me inspiration to keep creating and playing!
