EASY How To- Catch and Rig Ballyhoo for Bait (Offshore Fishing and Trolling)

Спорт

►CHECK OUT LANDSHARK GEAR landsharkfishinggear.com/
Ballyhoo can be very expensive in bait and tackle shops! Especially when rigged! In this video I show you how to catch them and then rig them for offshore fishing and trolling. Cast netting Ballyhoo is also very easy and cost effective to do on your own. Ballyhoo make great baits for snapper, grouper, Mahi-mahi (Dolphin), Wahoo, and other offshore pelagic fish.

    You don't have to use crimps, I chose to as its a new technique I want in my arsenal. A simple uni knot will do.

    if you choose to do put a barrel swivel on the end or loops instead of crimps how is that possible, I find the leader is way to thick and it can unstring itself

    Viktor, my brother-in-law and I virtually looked at 100 different ways to throw an 8' foot cast net without success. We used your tutorial while trowing for ballyhoo and found it not only easy, but were able to successfully throw it correctly every time. It was a real relief. We are planning on attempting for our trip to Key Largo shortly in hopes of catching ballyhoo in the chum slick. Thanks a bunch.

    This is probably one of the best/quickest ways of rigging the hoos. I normally puncture the upper jaw with the tip of the hook, before starting to rig, instead of using the thumbtack, but hey, whatever gets the job done. Tight lines!

    May I suggest you brine your baits over night with salt before rigging. It will make them stronger.

    Great instructional video. Especially the crimping technique. It's a must to leave the ends of the sleeve flared so it does not chafe the mono leader. Crimping on wire is a different animal.

    Hey Vic, You need to do a "tackle Tuesday" for Jigging! Go over the rod type, length, action, etc. then go over good reels for verticle jigging like size(3500-5000) and all that. that would be a good video. then you can go out and actually show people the techniques for vertical jigging. That will be a good video and you are way better at describing techniques where people can understand them unlike the other KZreadrs out there.

    Just curious, Whats the main benefit from using these instead of a plastic swimbait? I've seen guys rig them like this then throw on a huge skirt that covers over half the ballyhoo and at that point I don't see any difference. more natural presentation? get the fish to really commit to biting it?

    I was unfamiliar with them, your right. I explicitly stated in the video that you DO NOT need to crimp. Crimping is more neat and can be useful in man instances. I talked to a lot of people and have learned the right way to crimp and its just another tool for a fishermen to use, but not necessary, unless you fish cable.

  • @tiffanywelton5116

    @tiffanywelton5116

    6 жыл бұрын

    Sam Westoby a wide difference in how light reacts to the fishing line, strength, visibility, cost, and thickness. Cheap Mono stretches just like cheap Flouro, strength along with thickness are the same amongst most brands but the abrasion and line fraying increases when is a no go when fishing light tackle. Expensive Flouro stretches less at the cost of the core being hard and less visible in the water column making the line not absorb water and increase tremendously compared to mono but you cannot do tough knots on the hard core flouro or it will snap at the tightest of knots but won't stretch and warp around the knots. Spinning setups do well with both line because they're relatively light to 30 pound test. Baitcasting is when you want the flourocarbon because of the heavy wire gauge hooks won't dig into the lips or jaw-line if the force of a good hook-set is cut down by stretch. Plus mono snaps more often when the line is stretched out after two or three large fish like a big spawn Salmon or sharks. I believe because I have never done these three fisheries myself is the atlantic ocean; Tuna and albacore; and swordfish/sailfish.
