Looking at the comments, one thing I haven't seen is a point by point comparison of Boxcutter, Fluent and other similar addons, obviously in the functionality that overlaps in all. Each one represents an investment in time and commitment to their sometimes quirky workflows, so I think it'd be very useful to the Blender community to see a comparison. If there's a video out there that's done this, I haven't seen it. Most useful of all would be to see. side by side, the weaknesses of each, and where each one is best in class. So many reviews/tutorials I see avoid saying anything negative, but it's my feel that no product improves without constructive criticism and robust competition.

  • @Puckerization

Fluent is the easiest to use and the most accurate with its grid snap. Boxcutter is really good but uses solid boolean objects to cut, whereas Fluent uses shapes that are modified using many modifiers, so you get the most complete non-destructive workflow. Boxcutter is constantly being updated with new features and improvements and is compatible with Blender betas and alphas, it is also the most stable out of these three and has the market share. Speedflow is closer to Fluent but isn't coded as well as Fluent or Boxcutter and the developer is slower to release updates. I have all three, but use Fluent for most of the work.

@@Puckerization Thanks for providing the first comparison that I’ve seen for these tools. 1.) What do you mean by ”not coded as well as” in regards to SpeedFlow? 2.) I have MACHIN3tools and MESHmachine; does any of these conflict or significantly overlap features of MACHIN3’s tools; does one glue better with MACHIN3’s tools? 3.) Seems BoxCutter only operates in Object mode. Does Fluent or SpeedFlow have features that work in both Object and Edit modes, or same deal as BoxCutter?

  • @Puckerization

@@mixchief 1.) I have found that through my own experiences and the bugs reported on the SpeedFlow Discord server, that it has the most bugs compared to Fluent. It also has Undo problems that the dev blames on Blender rather than his own shortcomings. 2.) MACHIN3tools and MESHmachine are a better fit with HardOps and Boxcutter. HardOps even integrates some of Machin3’s features in it's UI. 3.) Fluent works in Object mode. GridModeler works in Edit mode and is quite awesome and cheap...but it has a destructive workflow.
