Easy Explosive Horde Night! (7 Days to Die: Alpha 20)

Today I take on the 3x3 challenge with a pit base, well half of one anyway. I was going to go full bedrock, but it just wasn't necessary to go that deep!
Thanks to Glock for putting out the challenge, check out his video.

7 Days to Die is a survival horror video game set in a post-apocalyptic world where players must scavenge for resources, build shelters, and defend themselves against hordes of zombies. The game takes place in a randomly generated world and features a day-night cycle, with the zombies becoming more aggressive and difficult to deal with at night.
Players must also manage their hunger and thirst levels, as well as avoid other environmental hazards such as extreme temperatures and wildlife. The game can be played alone or with others in multiplayer mode. It was developed by The Fun Pimps and released in 2013 for Microsoft Windows and later for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Linux.

With the parkour perk it is so hard to get out of the pit because of those three pole plate halfs. Perhaps I've followed it wrong but did you ever run into this? haha Edit: Unsure what I was smoking or maybe it was just too dark to see but it's really not an issue... Should have painted in a FILL line for the pit. For the pit haters, how well does this hold up as a completely above ground with say, ramps or something?

  • @CautiousPancake

    @CautiousPancake

    Жыл бұрын

    Not great if I'm honest - if you went above ground it would work, but when they break through the wall all the zomibes would fall out and then have to run back up the ramp. You'd have to probably go steel for the walls, and double thickness just in case. If you did that though it would otherwise work just fine - so the concept is ok, just it would be much more expensive up front to build.

  • @CautiousPancake

    I know what you mean about the 3x3, but I like how it forces a different style of build even if they aren't always great (see my dart ladder for an example of not great :D). You could make this a full base for sure - either by going up above the "coffin", off to the side, or even behind it with a little walkway into the back of the coffin.

    Got a 64 blood moon count day 28 horde night done with this. I don't understand why cops kept spitting at me (or rather the structure), I had no line of sight of them at all, so I did have to keep up with the repairs. With learning elixir this is by far the most insane xp gain. Also I recommend using a turret on the roof if you are doing high blood moon count, the spike traps just simply wasn't enough.

  • @CautiousPancake

    @CautiousPancake

    7 ай бұрын

    Love it, and agree with the turret approach! The cop spit is likely due to any block other than a full cube they can see through, which is a pain but manageable. The best tip I got from someone was putting electric fences in the pit stops the cop spit, I'll do an updated build for that when I can!

  • @user-wl4kx4yc9k

    @user-wl4kx4yc9k

    When the cops don't see the player, they still spit in his direction, causing damage to the blocks that cover the player. Even if these blocks are full cubes. Even if they are placed in several layers. Protection is standard. Zombies hit dirt blocks as a last resort when they cannot find their way to the player. Cover the outside of the walls and floor with Top Soil blocks (made from 16 clay). Cops shouldn't spit on such blocks if they don't see the player. Grenades can be dropped without being seen by them.

  • @g3synth205
    @g3synth2053 ай бұрын

    I'm under the impression that cops will spit at any walls that aren't full cube blocks in A21 (where this wasn't the case in A20) - I learned this from watching a couple videos on YTer Pseudo Posse's channel. So in the "coffin" area, those walls of plates would basically be constantly puked on by cops, no? Do you have a build of this base that doesn't care about the 3x3 limitation? I'd love to build an effective pit base, very similar to this one, but without any real 'challenge' limitations.

    I'm Quite new, Do you think Explosive Arrow will be fine? I see the Entity Damage = 253 and Block Damage = 5 for the pipe bomb and the arrow Entity Damage = 180 and Block Damage = 2. And on that note does the Archer perk increase the dmg of the explosive ammo, Because I think if it does I might want to try this with Explosive Arrows.

  • @CautiousPancake

    @CautiousPancake

    8 ай бұрын

    Hey and welcome! Explosive arrows will kill the zombies just fine and are a lot of fun!! The main drawback for arrows is the need for duct tape, which you don't have with pipe bombs. From memory yes the archer perk should up the dmg of the explosive arrows.

  • @Oktokolo
    @Oktokolo Жыл бұрын

    That seems to be the most effective 3x3 so far. Grats for that! But why didn't it collapse as soon as the zombies broke one block of each of the eight vertical support pillars? Is it because of the pit depth (natural blocks have lousy horizontal support, but maybe it adds up enough)?

  • @CautiousPancake

    @CautiousPancake

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Oktokolo - thanks very happy with how this one went. As for stability - I've added some shots to by insta, and it's fine for the zombies to destroy everything in the pit as long as the top row where the pit joins the ground remains ok. That's what provides the stability upwards once the link down to bedrock is gone. If you were going for a bigger base on top for the coffin, then I'd add more blocks outside the 3x3 down to the ground, preferably also further back from the pit so that they don't tunnel underneath. instagram.com/p/CtC5GZehHD6/?igshid=MmJiY2I4NDBkZg==

  • @Oktokolo

    @Oktokolo

    @@Oktokolo I'm with you- but I checked it too - took the base after horde and knocked out the second from top row all the way around and there was no change to stability! • @CautiousPancake

    @CautiousPancake

    Жыл бұрын

    I like the floating blocks as it more clearly (I think) shows how the pathing works. If you prefer a more realistic looking build, then add a cube block in the mid row to support the two floating blocks, then replace the second level floading half plates with cube 1/2's that go down to the lip of the pit, then everything is supported. If that's not what you are trying to do, then please let me know.

    we are 4 players on insane nightmare max difficulty. trying to build this same format in a 5x5. With 2 sides for zombies to fall down instead of one. Getting difficult to understand the mechanic you used to build for the zombies to go up. It is possible on a 5x5 also right ?

  • @CautiousPancake

    @CautiousPancake

    11 ай бұрын

    Hey ArjKm, yes it should work very much the same at 5x5. That should just give you a bit more space to build bunkers on top as well for 4 people. There's a slightly improved design for the entrance path on this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eGRpscZuYM3UfJM.htmlsi=zE5MyoH9x4Vt8tmr&t=556 Essentially the ramp up is outside the 3x3, since the blcoks didn't quite line up with the ground level, and it starts them up the path. Then first block is pole half plane in the low near position, then the next block over is the pole half plate in the high far. This is the key part that drops the zombies. After that - use blocks that ensure each is a step or jump up around the outside of the 3x3 (or 5x5) area, and that there is enough headroom to jump through so the zombies don't get blocked. Hopefully this helps - if not let me know!
