In Italy, the peasants were starving but they still would not eat potatoes. In the end, one of the cardinals started eating then and serving them to his grand guests. Then the poor people began to see the merit in them. Captain Cook did the same thing with cabbage on his voyages to Australia in the eighteenth century. Thank you for the video!

I was taught veg that grows under the soil (potatoes, carrots, etc) go into cold water and veg which grows above (broccoli, cabbage) go into hot water.

The reason 16th- and 17th-century Europeans were so suspicious of potatoes is that every part of the potato plant except the tuber is, in fact, poisonous. They found it unlikely that the roots of a poisonous plant could be good to eat. (The same thing applies to tomatoes - every part of the tomato plant except the berries is poisonous, and Europeans were skeptical.)

The potato was the first domesticated vegetable in the region of modern-day southern Peru and extreme northwestern Bolivia between 8000 and 5000 BC. Cultivation of potatoes in South America may go back 10,000 years, but tubers do not preserve well in the archaeological record, making identification difficult. Wikipedia thought you might like this 🥰

The proper answer is that he doesn’t focus on excluding eggs and meat because he’s not vegetarian in the Hindu capacity so he eats all of those things. He writes extensively about substitutes in all his recipes.
