Great video! I offer my clients the option to keep the sweep in back or remove…99% want the sweep removed so they have better mobility and less chance to trip when dancing. ☺️ When it’s a simple rolled hem I cut each layer to the floor…slowly…and with my best scissors ✂️

Great job explaining the way you hem. I need a shirt that says "I trusted my pins" or "expert pinner" Maybe someone has a better slogan for us??????

Thank you so much for this video! I'm attempting a seam on a sequence dress that is bag hemmed (I'm just learning this is what the hem is called). Do you have a video for this?

Im putting a bustle on a prom dress. Mermaid, slim fitting, emerald green sequined with just a 10 inch sweep in the back.

Thank you for all of your hints and techniques. I wondered if you had any tips on how to remove a train from a wedding dress,? I'm thinking that the only way to do that is to make the dress the same length all the way around?

Yes, usually It's the same process as hemming. Just more of it! Lol & you have to leave it a little longer in the back so that it doesn't fall into a fishtail.

Thank you sister for this wonderful video tutorial. Hope to see more video tutorials. Sister why are you keeping 2 inches for the back hem and 1 inch for the front hem ? 🤔🤔🤔

So the back has a graceful sweep or "tip" to it. Simply put, it is pretty.

Question: Do you recommend a certain brand of safety pins? I have been very frustrated buying pins that to me are dull or not smooth. Thanks in advance!

I cannot hem with hemming foot if my life depended on it. I watch videos, check length, make sure its feeding through the bottom of the foot. It comes in and out of the fold. Drives me crazy. Also, the front of the prom dress with the dip in the front makes it hard to hem because sometimes it’s a big curve . Thank you for your videos

Watch my video playlist on rolled hems! An hour or two of that, plus some practice may have you on your way. I can't use that foot either.

The front where the hem covers the shoes it’s the part that gets me a little nervous bc the dress doesn’t fall naturally I have to place it myself. Does it happen to you also? Just wondering thanks for the video

May I ask what are your favorite brand of pins? I bought some recently, and they didn’t want to go in the fabric easily.

@@BridalSewing Thank you so much! I should have been more specific though - it’s my safety pins that were giving me a problem while I was fitting a hem. Since I quilt, I bought more of that type. Perhaps it’s because of the polyester. The pins never give me trouble when working on a cotton quilt.

UGH! I have a dress with a large flare (swing?) I don't want to lose this and if I hem in this fashion I will lose a good bit of the flare. Isn't there a way to "hem" a dress from the waste as not to lose the flare / swing? Thank you for this video I would have made a major mistake in my pinning if I must hem from the bottom!

  • @BridalSewing

Sometimes, yes. Sometimes it creates more work. It depends on the silhouette. Can you just taper the hem to keep the flare?

How come I pinned correctly but now gown is 3" shorter? What did I do wrong?😮

So many things can cause that. One thing that comes to mind in particular with prom is often the weight of the fabric being cut off is no longer stretching the hem.

Did you cut from the wrong side of the pins mistakenly?
