Can you guess the most popular answer?
It was hemming. Making an even hem around a circle skirt can be very challenging.
Or you thought you made an even hem. Then a few days later, it's looking wonky!
So in this tutorial, I’ll share with you do’s and don’ts of making an even hem for your circle skirts.

    How many layers/circles do you cut for one skirt?

  • @sparklybelly

    @sparklybelly

    3 жыл бұрын

    Good question! At the minimum, I use 2 half-circles for 1 circle skirt. But if the fabric is too sheer for my liking, I make 2 layers of that. And if I want more volume, I use 3 half-circles per layer. :)

  • @sparklybelly

    @sparklybelly

    Is it possible that the front side is stretching out? If the skirt is cut on the bias, it's easy to stretch out, so when you store it, it's better to fold it and lay it flat instead of hanging. Is the front side still too long for you? Is there still room to cut? If you send me a photo to mao@sparklybelly.com, I'll be happy to look at it and offer suggestions 😊

  • @justabout6979
    @justabout69792 жыл бұрын

    how many of these steps can you skip if your fabric wasn't nearly as stretchy. For a less stretchy woven fabric as well as a knit fabric(i really doubt the knit fabric will change after being hung up or within seconds of your test cut)

  • @sparklybelly

    @sparklybelly

    Good question! When I make a skirt about of stretch fabric, I sew the hem at the same time as I sew the rest of the skirt because it doesn't stretch like woven. If you find that your fabric doesn't stretch much, you could skip the hanging and cutting, but I'd still store the skirt flat or rolled up instead of hanging. Woven fabric always has the risk of stretching out over time. Hope this helps! 😊

    What if cut the top part, waist area? Instead of the bottom part? I think that will be better

  • @sparklybelly

    @sparklybelly

    Жыл бұрын

    Good question! It can work, and some people do cut from the waist to shorten their skirts. But when you are trying to make an even hem, especially for skirts made out of fabric that shifts a lot (e.g. chiffon), it's easier to trim from the bottom 😊
