    @@w.k.d.constructionllc Having 2x12's at 12" means nothing without knowing what the span of the joist is, and I bet they were sized that way because of a need. Builders don't just upsize like that if there isn't a need since they are heavy and also cost a lot.

    @@butthurt6129 correct, you don’t know my span or anything. So you can’t judge by my notching 3/4” is wrong & 12”’on centers means I could possibly cut down to a 2x8 width and still be structurally sound. But hey, you’ll never know? 🤷🏼‍♂️ I always oversized when I build anything, But I only do high end customs. No production work for me

    Our bathroom floor system is Shluter. They specifically cut the sloped pan for our curbless shower. Works perfectly. I wouldn't say we have a high-end home but we did splurge on a heated floor that goes into the shower. It's deluxe. The wires go right between the orange nubs. Similar to how this shower turns out, except we had the valve on the opposite end of the shower as the shower head and it automatically sets to the temp you want.

    The Tile Coach has demonstrated that all-set mortar is water permeable and so it can get through your taping seams via capillary action. Seal your tape seams with Rapid Set Hybrid Silane Polyether Non-Sag Adhesive to get a truly waterproof shower tray.

    @@w.k.d.constructionllc Wanted to make sure readers got the right stuff. It cures when wet, so you don't have to wait very long to do a leak test. It is about $8.50 a tube at HD vs almost $30 for the Kerdi brand, which still leaks. The adhesive needs to flow easy so that it seeps way down into the the felt of the membrane. Thicker adhesives don't do this and allow a path for moisture through the fibers of the felt. Here is the link where I got my information. Unfortunately, following Schluters instructions can lead to a leaky shower. kzread.info/dash/bejne/X6JlkpiImNG9ns4.html

    Tile coach showed us you need to hydroban over all that. Thinset slowly absorbs water, the system depends on you the owner to only take short showers and have it dry out everytime. But if for whatever reason and its not your personal master shower that only you use, and the whole family is nuking this shower every 3 hours. That conatant water will eventually go through the entire thinset corners.

    Dumb question from the back of the class: is the trench style drain for looks or is it for like a high flow rate shower? Either way great looking install, very clean

  • @w.k.d.constructionllc

    @w.k.d.constructionllc

    It’s more for looks than flow. The outlet is basically a 2” hole just like any standard shower drain. Drains the same volume of water with some class! 😉

    It isn't the mortar that they are depending on. The Schluter material is hydrophobic. It can withstand 30 inches of water pressure foe days with no leakage. Much more than is obtained in a shower. The bulk of issues come from installation error.
