How to build a Curbless Shower. Start to finish. GURU Shower System. WINNI.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

A curbless shower is a modern and sleek option for any bathroom remodel. Not only does it provide a seamless look, but it also offers a more accessible and safer shower experience for individuals of all ages and abilities. In this video, we'll take you through a step-by-step guide on how to build a curbless shower from start to finish.
Before we get started, it's important to note that building a curbless shower is a complex project that requires a high level of skill and experience. If you're not comfortable with plumbing, tiling, and carpentry, we recommend consulting with a professional contractor to ensure that your project is completed safely and correctly.
We will be using guru shower system to build this barrier free shower. In my opinion the GURU shower system is the best shower system on the market, but if you are using laticrete shower system or schluter shower system, you would have the same installation process.

    Nice work! Excellent skill and finised product looks great!The only question is how the waterproofing of the niche inside corners and around the drain is done. Combing the tile for the perfectly flat surface should be fine, but I prefer combining substrate and back-buttering tile. Keep up the good work!

    How do you do the water leak test in a curbless shower? doesn't code requires that you fill the shower and let it sit overnight?

    I'm still trying to figure all this out. It looks like you have cement board on the ceiling. I assume you don't tape the seems like you would with regular drywall or do you? Assuming you use a different product to tape the seems, do you end up sanding like you would on drywall to get a smooth finish before painting. I have not come across a video showing what do on the ceiling.

    Where I am you can't use green board or any drywall product in a shower, inspector's won't pass it. Does not matter what you cover it with. You can only used boards stamped "Tile backer" - cement boards, durarock, kerdi etc.

    Should you have primed the walls prior to thin setting your waterproof membrane? Should you be worried about adhesion issues with the raw joint compound?

  • @richdrumlang

    @richdrumlang

    29 күн бұрын

    Yeah he messed that one up. I've been building showers for years and you need to paint those walls before applying membrane. Also, mastic adhesive is not permitted for use with that membrane. It has to be unmodified thinset.

    All good except no support for top of inset after cutting supporting lumber out. You should frame a header in before wall board is installed and cut out after. With the angled roof line it can cause major problems down the road. In the future if the roof lumber lines up with the lumber you are cutting out it is a supporting leg and needs a header installed.

    The niche should have been built BEFORE the wall was waterproofed. The membrane should have been installed. And then the wall membrane placed over the top (especially above the niche). Now there is the potential for water to get behind the upper niche membrane. And I can’y tell if the bottom of the niche and the shelf were sloped to allow for water to drain off.

  • @larrys5733

    @larrys5733

    @@1packatak yeah no, that's not correct. Schluter, a very similar product to guru has stated many times that there is no specific order to the banding. Walls first, corners first, doesn't matter. So the overlap is irrelevant. And we don't build our niche until AFTER the first rows of tile are installed. we get perfect niches on grout lines

  • @1packatak

    @1packatak

    @@larrys5733well I can tell you the tile guy who just did my modified curbless shower said it is important. He does Schluter. He’a been doing tile work for almost 40 yrs. The large piece of glass you have would be more stable over time if you had put in a modified curb under it to support the weight. I have about a 1 1/2 inch curb under mine. It would also make way more sense to put the shower valves farther towards the back. It would prevent getting sprayed with cold water when you turn the shower on. And by doing an initial layout, you can easily center your niche on grout lines. My guy did.
