    THIS WORKED!!) 1978 Ford F100 Lariat..) Thank you for making this video Sir ! It helped me realize that I also needed a Breaker bar to put more Strength into my turns., (Thankfully before I broke my socket wrench).,. I did have to fight with the strap once I got it tired down, to keep the pulley from turning, and hold the breaker bar at the same time, while getting leverage...But it did Grip!, and with Some PB blaster, and a little patience,. The Bolt broke FREE ! And I also got the four smaller bolts which also held the pulley in which were sung as well. Thanks to you, and Duece!!!

    Thanks for sharing. I'd tried just about everything to break my hb bolt loose before I decided to check youtube. I used what I seen yesterday on my Lincoln LS V8. It tried to work but I couldnt get the strap alone to bite so it would slip. So what I did to get more grip/bite was to cut a piece of rubber from a bike intertube long enough to cover about 3rd of the hb. and laid it on the grooves and them wrapped my strap.

    Damn!!! That’s one heck of a lot of torque. If I stood on the torque wrench I wouldn’t have enough azz!! 😂 I hope you are successful with this method. Some people in comments added a piece of rubber tubing laying around. I would try to use as many wraps as you can even if you have to add another strap to lock it if it starts to spin. Sometimes it will have to spin some until the wraps tighten so don’t give up if it spins some. I am looking forward to your update. Take care, Tony

    I just broke the crankshaft pulley bolt loose on my 2008 Honda Fit! I used a "3:1 Torque Multiplier ($257 new on Amazon)" and the crank pulley holding tool ($13). I ran a bunch of 1/2" extensions out from the multiplier and rested them on a jack stand and used a breaker bar with a 4 ft. cheater pipe on it and it broke loose. Even though the torque multiplier is rated for 1100 ft/lbs, I still had to put out on that cheater pipe. My 450 ft/lb. electric impact with the special crankshaft 19mm socket from Honda was not enough to break it loose.

    Didn't work for me but it was a good idea worth a shot. I tried it both ways as I was trying to loosen the Crack pulley bolt. I wrapped it from underneath and around held the rest of the slack in the strap with one hand, then tried unloosing the bolt with a breaker bar but no luck. So then I wrapped it from the top and around the pulley still no luck the pulley still kept wanting to move as I was trying to loosen it. Crazy thing is I went to the junkyard to pull a part behind the crank pulley and that bolt came off with ease I also used my longest breaker bar with I think the bolt was 13/16 and it didn't take no effort of unloosing it. Wish I had a impact I am sure that would have spun it off with the pulley not moving. Just and update the impact wrench worked just as I expected it to spin the bolt right off. Was worth the $329 at home depot got a carrying bag with tool battery and battery charger. This tool spun it off with little to no force like two in half uge duges and of course with it on the nut busting setting as I tried all three settings before that. Get you one if you want peace of mind and a back up plan

    Like how everyone freaks out about the timing being off after that. It's the crank pulley, not a geared sprocket nor cogged belt/timing chain that you'd find behind all the accessory drive pulleys. The only thing you have to worry about is setting up to which way the engine rotates.

    That’s a very good idea … although the proof of the pudding is if it works on removal but on a pulley that has been in situ for a long time..

    Agreed they can be a nightmare especially when taking it off even with an impact and the motor spins with it. You definitely don’t want the motor spinning on some motors because it can bend stuff. I am not a mechanic but was told on some motors it can slam the valves especially if belt is broken. I hope I never have to do it again so far since I made this video everything still working good l. Take care, Tony

    I hope this works pulling the actual pulley out. I got the bolt out with my Milwaukee 1/2 impact but now I can't remove the pulley without it spinning and it's driving me nuts. I need to replace my oil pump in my 4.8 vortec and this is the 2nd to last step

    I thought I finally nailed it. But no. I habe a Master MK1 from 1984 and I can't remove the water pump pulley. I know that most of these pulleys are attached with three bolts bit this one has something extra "pulley" attached on it that just spins freely. I have no clue what it doe, but it stands on it that it's from an Italian factory that makes clutches. The thing is that when I do what you do in the video, it seems to finnaly work, but I'm a bit worried what will happen if I put all my strength in cause the whole engine is moving when I try to break the bolt loose.

    Hello, I would definitely give it a go if you don’t have a tool. I’ve had others on my comment section say they had trouble with slipping, and others wrapping some types of rubber along with this method for traction. For most and I it works excellent. I hope you have an awesome evening, Tony

  • @fastnpainless6965
    @fastnpainless69653 жыл бұрын

    Tried it. But before the torque wrench clicks the whole engine bends towards the right side. I guess the engine support rubbers are the weak part in this case

  • @HowYouCanDoItToo

    @HowYouCanDoItToo

    3 жыл бұрын

    That’s messed up. So no matter how you was to lock it down to use a torque wrench it would do that. If possible I would put a ratchet strap around the side lifting up around the engine support to the frame separately. You have to be close to the click. It’s definitely stopping the motor from turning though? I know you’re probably aggravated but give it another try if possible to get to mount to anchor it from moving from rubber mounts. Hope this helps you. Take care - Tony

    @@HowYouCanDoItToo i just did it another way. I just used thread locker fluid that holds up to 250 ft-lb and tightend it as hard as I could until the rubbers started to move. Many local mecanics in Costa Rica do it this way. I also saw old loctite thread locker on the screw when i took it out

    At min 3:28, when re-tightening the pulley nut, I see the pulley belt is already removed. Does this mean that for either removal or re-tightening the pulley nut, first the belt needs to be removed? Or is this method of holding the pulley in place also possible with the belt fitted? Thanks.

  • @HowYouCanDoItToo

    @HowYouCanDoItToo

    This is for when you are or have been having to work on something that requires you to remove the pulley nut. So the belts would already be removed. In theory I guess you could do it with it on, I wouldn’t want to remove with the belt on because as you’re loosening it, it would make the pulley pull to the side
