Yeah, it's called soaking. Our grandparents did it all the time. I'm sad that generations don't share their wisdom with each other. Young and old have a lot to share. And yet, youtube has replaced live interactions.

Yes but she's also using a dish soap that has degreaser in it. Dawn & the likes have degreaser in them. Our parents didn't use degreaser. They soaked and used a natural "degreaser" called distilled vinegar.

Buy a plastic storage box, label it something like "for soaking stuff" and use it only for food related items that get crud build up on them. I do this for soaking my fine china teacups and saucers and the big heavy items I have inherited mainly teapots and platters, soup tureen, etc. They need to be washed by hand often to prevent them from drying out and getting cracks or chips. The longer between dunks the more likely they are to become brittle. Blessings, Dot

Dish soap is designed to be tough on oils and grime without damaging the patterns of the ceramic surfaces. It should work well on both tiles and glass. For glass surfaces that don't fog up put a small amount of dish soap on a dry cloth and rub all over then "polish" the glass. The soap will be a protective layer/coating on the glass. When you need to clean it use a wet cloth to clean up and then reapply a new coat of dish soap. The dish soap coating also makes a mirror much easier to clean if someone gets toothpaste or cosmetics on it. Blessings, Dot

I would guess that when the rack was welded together the joins weren't as strong as normal. The stainless steel coating applied to the metal may have worn thru in the areas of the rack where you got rust developing. The older an oven is the more chance of developing rust even if you don't soak it. With the way ovens are made these days (with cheap materials, to increase the profit margin) even if you buy an expensive oven you are probably just paying for the brand name, not a higher quality of product.

These racks are amateurs. For unspeakable racks, shake open a trash bag. Lay it flat on the floor, insert the racks then spray the hell out of them with oven cleaner. Fold the open end under the racks. After 24 hrs carry the bag held flat to the hose. Set the bag down, pull the racks out then blast them with the hose. Perfect. What little is left will come off as you dry the racks. Carefully dispose of the bag.

I'm a house cleaner and the easiest way that we clean it in minutes is spraying it down with easy off and letting it set for about 20-30 minutes while we clean the rest of the kitchen and go back and just wipe it right off

I put the rack inside a plastic garbage bag and then spray oven clean onto it inside the bag and leave it for a couple of hours then rinse.
