I’m going to add this since Rich Textures Crochet doesn’t seem to be responding to comments about size. Those who say it’s too big, it’s best to chain a length to your own measure. The first chain will be the height of the hat - figure out the height you want and add an inch or so, since the chain will shorten once you crochet into it. This is better than doing exactly the number of stitches she says. I wish she stressed this more, rather than saying the number of stitches. Wool can vary, hook size, tension, so best to measure. You can see the measurements at the start of the video, and also standard hat measurement charts can guide you. I also find that she allows a lot of “negative ease” for the circumference - that is she says for a child, stop crocheting when you’ve reached 15”, but if the child’s head is 20” (standard) that’s 5” of stretch, and if your wool and crocheting isn’t that stretchy, the hat will be too tight. Standard negative ease is 2”. Just stretch it out and see how big a head it will fit.

I wish I had read this comment before crocheting almost the whole hat before realizing it was way too long for my toddler’s head 🤣🤦🏻♀️ So I undid the whole thing and chained to my own measurement. Much better now.

My hat is about 11” long and 16” in circumference. I could have made it a little shorter, but this way it will fit him longer. (I cuff it up about 2”.) He’s about a year and a half, but he has a pretty big head, about 19” in circumference. Good luck with your hat!

I've never seen a hat pattern that starts with a magic circle then chains. It's brilliant!! It makes the top so much nicer and less bulky. I'll be using this method with all future hats! Thank you!
Love how you give the different chains to do for the different sizes your tortorial is great so clear and easy to follow unlike a lot that go too fast and unclear thank you I'm just starting to make one x
I have been making beanies for a while, but your magic ring method and seam is genius. I simply love it! Thank you for taking the time to share with us!
Wow! That seems so easy to do, thanks for explaining and showing your work very slowly. I will give it a go.
I wanted to say thank you for this hat pattern! It has been the easiest and best pattern for a hat I've learned! I love your videos and I support you!!!

Thank you for this simple and cute pattern. Can't wait to try it!
I really like the magic loop technique. It makes things easier and tidy
I’m just making a suggestion: when the hat is complete, pull both ends of yarn inside, sew in a button if you want to use a fur Pom Pom, the elastic on the Pom Pom can be pulled thru the top of the hat with a crochet hook, then anchored quite firmly around the button on the inside. No wobbly pom poms. Voila!😉 Sue

So enjoyed this pattern and especially they clear way in which you teach. Only have two questions.Which side is the right side. And when I slipped stitched mine together only one side clearly showed the back and front loop of the chain. The other side was not the same. What did I do wrong.
This is genius! Always struggle with my numbers when working in the round
This is a lovely beanie. Í want to do it for a 7 year old boy but í do not know where to find the pattern 😢
hi there how many inches in lenght for adults and how many stitches
Thank you so much for this tutorial - I’m brand new to crochet and am so pleased with the hat I’ve been able to make for my little boy using your guidance! 💕
for sure i m trying this pattern, in several sizes ty for sharing !!
i’m about 10 rows in and might have made the magic loop too small. will i run out of string from the magic loop? do i need to restart
I will say I believe the measurements are not very true to size - I had to shorten my chains tremendously to fit the ages properly. I read another comment that talked about this and it helped me alot. Sarah should be more clear about chaining to your personal desire. Nonetheless I used the video to make multiple hats for gifts! Great video!
I am so excited about finding your channel to lean to crochet

How do you make the brim look as if it has a place where you can fold it?
How do I find the child size video please. I love it!

I truly love your videos however on this one i tried to make a child’s beanie using the 51 chain stitches and used a 5.5mm hook however it was so long it ended up looking like a robbers mask rather than a childs beanie, even folded up it had to be folded almost all the way to the top and fit on an adults head to be a relatively normal-ish looking beanie. I dont believe this will fit at all on my niece however my boyfriend and i got a great laugh out of the rainbow glitter robbers mask I ended up making 😂

Lol if you used a different yarn than It may end up a different size unless it’s the same gauge. You can adjust it though by simply making that long starting chain the size you need and then add a couple of inches.

Not my pattern, but the yarn that you use will make a big difference. She does say that this is thinner than usual so the hat will be smaller than using a usual weight.
How many inches long is the foundation stitch for a 12 month hat?
The width on the text version and what you say in the video are different, so I am confused.

I still haven’t got it I was on the Hanukkah
I’m a beginner beginner and had a hard time keeping up (even with pausing). Your stitches were too fast to keep up and I wasn’t sure exactly where the stitches went sometimes. If you stitched super slowly, I think it would have helped.

You need to chain 1 after each row or you’ll lose 1 each row. Let’s say you do the child size that has 51 stitches. Once you finish a row you actually only have 50 and your hook will be in the 50th stitch. You need to chain 1 so you can work into that last stitch. Hope this makes sense please reply if you have any questions!
