    Use a lot of baby oil on your legs and arms before putting your wetsuit on, much easier to get the wetsuit off. Already wear the number belt under the wetsuit for shorter distances.

    I know for sprint/Olympic Tri's the Brownlee brothers often hang their helmet to the handlebars using a small piece of cotton, that's if he helmet wouldn't sit nicely on the handlebars.

    For my last IM I wrapped all my running gels and other bits in my run hat, curled it up, and put an elastic band around it. I then ran out of T2 with it in my hand and sorted it into pockets while running. Saved time and I didn't leave anything in my transition bag by accident. One I got from one of your pro interviews, coming up to aid stations on the bike, I half unzip my tri top and shove all the bits I grab down my top then sort them once I've moved away. It is much quicker than trying to shove them in my pockets or bento box. I did end up finding half a banana still down there some way into the run once though - it still tasted good!

    My top two are: 1. The soft side Gu 5 gel pack (you can fit 6 in there) that you can single handedly use on the bike, also no fiddling with garbage or sticky mess. Take it out of your pocket, twist open, squeeze, twist close and stow. 2. Doubling or tripling up electrolytes in cage bottles to fit the race distance and using the aero hydration system for water only. Refill the aero on course as needed. No stops to deal with powder or drinking too much on cold days to ingest electrolytes.

    Bento box tip: take some cheap bright orange duct tape and line the inside. makes it much easier to see what is in there when riding.

    Pre-cut the elastic bands and tie them afterwards so they’ll rip off easily when mounting. When jumping to the saddle you land on your right thigh and slip it to the pedal, do not jump to land in the riding position… Secure your helmet safely to the bike in T1 because space is tight and you don’t want it being accidentally knocked off. And my best advice: check in at the earliest possible time to have ample time to get everything right and double check everything.

    While helping out on one of the bike feed stations at Outlaw Triathlon this year I ended up using cable ties to secure / reattach someone’s saddle to her bike after it came loose (we couldn’t get to the bolt to tighten it properly)! It held out for the last 20 or so miles and she finished the race! During IM Vichy, I had to make use of cable ties on my own bike to repair my bottle cage after it broke and I didn’t want to lose the ability to carry a second water bottle in temperatures of over 36C! 🥵

    For T1 or T2, make grab and go baggies of any small items you will want. I use 'snack' sized ziplock baggies. Less chance to forget or sort through things when you are distracted. You can sort things out when on the bike or run and not lose time.

    A top tip I learnt and still use, is electrical tape around the seat post to put the race number on, in this way you don't have the sticky glue left behind from the race number on the seat tube, I use the same for my helmet so I don't have the old race numbers / glue left on the helmet.

    When I was practicing flying mount a few years back, I also hanged the elastic band to my front derailleur. On on try it got caught into the chain rings and I nearly fell off the bike. Since then I rather tie it to the rear through axle bolt.

    Hotel shower cap to cover important bike parts if raining or your bike is left in T1 over night. Also 😂 - Mark might need to explain what going “Pete Tong” is to the non UK watchers! Brilliant 😂.

    Dismount the bike like this: put your feet on top of your shoes while driving. When the line comes up, lift 1 leg over your bike and stand on the other for a split second. Then you can go from cycling to running into T2 just before the dismount line. This is what pro's do too, practise this an you win a lot of time. You don't have to run in T2 with your bike shoes on. Just make sure you don't go too fast when dismounting 😅

    Do not tape gels to your top tube... Get yourself a "bento" type pouch or stuff the gels in your cycling shorts leg portions near your knees .

    Do people still bring cartridges to change a flat? If so, do they work on tubeless tires? How about blisters on the tip of your toes? Any hacks to avoid them?

  • @andrewmcalister3462

    @andrewmcalister3462

    CO2 will work to inflate tubeless tires, and beats minutes of frustration in using a hand pump. But it tends to dry out the sealant, so not for long term use. After the race where you used a canister, deflate your tires and reinflate with regular air using a track pump. If you are getting race day blisters, but not in training, a few extra seconds in transition to dry your feet with a small towel will save you minutes on a painful miserable run. Wet skin is softer, and more likely to macerate and blister. And wet cotton socks are positively a torture device - choose synthetic or a merino wool blend.

    It is against the rules but very hard to police, part of competitive triathlon and relatively common as well as the elbows, fists, dunking and ripping goggles off 🤣
