This reminds me of a situation me and my family are going through. And I'm on the spectrum as well, so, I get how hard it can be for parents to have children with autism.

I’m high functioning autistic and I have ADHD, ADD and Asperger’s syndrome, I had a lot of similar issues when I was younger and I didn’t get diagnosed until I was 8-10 years old. And I find joy in nature and reading books as well as taking nature pictures. I’m doing better now and have a job!

Honestly to my mom it wasn’t really as easy as pie for her she had 3 kids and even though I did try to make her life seem easy as pie from having been easy going as a newborn with undiagnosed autism I still didn’t make it seem all perfect in every aspect but I did try being easy going it was hard from how not easy going my siblings were to her at the same time she had to baby around our dad for the fact of every hangover after all those times of drinking it had to really be hard in every aspect to her especially with me being difficult when it came to getting past every milestone I even had to have speech therapy for just enough time until I got every little thing I could only imagine how difficult it was to grow out of using diapers but thankfully my sister who’s younger got me through every step along the way and we did everything together well except going through having braces I had to go through it without anyone else doing it with me at the same time but it was fine after all that mouth and jaw pain thankfully with my siblings and I slowly all of us being done with school except for my brother it’s gonna make it much better by then so my mom doesn’t have too much running around being an Uber for free anymore

Autistic too. I got really annoyed when I went to public school (last year) since it seemed like the teachers didn't care I existed and I let out a lot of teenage growls.

as a parent with child with autism The parents are doing everything wrong fighting and yelling in front of the children, bad move guys mom is always talking down to he children dad doesn't help or care mom has lost her mind and its not because of her child. The parents should seek help for them self I do nothing like them ever suck it up, take it on the chin, be more loving Love your children more If you must - count to ten - then talk to them gosh I hope these are all actors these is so not real

Thank you for commenting and watching, John. You are correct in 2 ways - these are definitely all actors. And, the point of the whole thing is that sometimes the parents need "work", too. Most of the time, people sort of put parents up on a pedestal and make them seem like heroes. But in reality, they deal with the same issues and have the same faults that other parents have. The parents are sometimes "saved" by the kids - like in this case. (Hope you watched the end!)

NO.... don't you get that scene?, why the long staring into the waves?, two outcomes, what happened, or..... something else, other than the rings goes walking into the water....and doesn't come back!!!; so of course no regrets, the rings are immaterial, it's the mother's LIFE that matters here!!!

Kinda makes me frustrated with the fact that none of these HFA films get it right. Stereotypes galore here. That young girl would have medium to severe autism, not mild or high functioning. I yearn to find someone who doesn’t stereotype us HF autistics.

Hi, I wrote and directed this based on my own life. My daughter is now 14, in a regular classroom, communicates very well and is very much high functioning. She always has been. The movie was meant to dramatize a particularly bad - but somewhat typical - day for the family. I know it's not perfect, but I'm still proud of it. I would like to encourage you to also get creative and share your own story through something like this. Write a script, take a class and go make your own short film. We need more stories like yours.

No shade on this film at all, it is perfect for what it is but I agree with this comment. It would be great to see a more nuanced depiction of what people refer to as 'high functioning'. It is a problematic term at best at representing the autistic experience anyways though.
