Puting rice in your soup is the ultimate Asian move, well done brother Edit: Nice. Side note puting rice into soups isnt exclusive to anyone or any nationality so lets all do what we like. I like to put rice in leftover instant ramen soup and crack an egg into it then microwave it a bit to make “porridge” that is both budget friendly and filling.

My mom and grandma made something super similar called caldo de pollo. (I'm sure all the latinxs will know) it looks the same with one chicken leg, potatoes, carrots, and sometimes orange rice!

Our parents who came over as older people and learning English to give us a better life - amazing sacrifice for their kids. Humbling and that is why we are contributing members of society and appreciate what we have. My father always said that America was the greatest country- he worked hard 7 days a week and yet still made time for us to enjoy our childhood. Never knew we weren’t without cuz everything was done with love. Totally can relate- appreciate u and all that u do!!❤

Comfort food! Parents and grandparents always made my brothers and I. They also worked long hours. My dad would do 12 - 18hrs 6 days a week, mom would do 12hrs 5 days a week while still going to school for her undergrad as well.

Having ingredients like garlics, onions, and salt were sufficient for us who stays at the farm back when we were kids. Gramps taught us how to make a hole on the ground and make fire with dried wood and bamboos. Rest in peace, gramps in heaven.

My mum and I had a difficult relationship growing up. She had grown up with a lot of trauma and moving to New Zealand, she then had to deal with with the stress of being a new migrant with young kids. Despite all the difficulties we had, she made this soup for us all the time. Our relationship has improved. We’ve both grown a lot. One thing I learned from her is how to provide for a family despite being incredibly busy. I make this soup for my son and he loves it. It’s basically a gift from his grandma. She doesn’t have money or connections to pass on, but at least we have love and ABC soup.

We make the same soup in the Bahamas. 🇧🇸 a little different, instead of tomatoes we use lime and all spice. We serve it with hot white grits or a bake dish call Jonny cake. Which is a bread. I grew up on that as well.
