People are asking the wrong questions. Kids crowd places all over the world. Kids sneak out and go places they're too young for, all over the world. None of that is really relevant. The question that needs to be asked is what was the cause of the stampede? Someone famous? A wild animals? Someone with a gun? And was it a stampede into or out of the building? People clamouring to see a famous person or running from a threat of danger? Ask the right questions before judging.

I don't understand IsiXhosa, but the father being interviewed mentions "pepper spray". Maybe someone sprayed it on the crowded dance floor? To be fair: the place should not have been so overcrowded and the children should not have bern there at 4 AM. The tavern managers DID ness up. They wanted to make a quick buck selling alcohol to adolescents - my guess!

I personally think parents must blame themselves, if I go to sleep as a parent without having knowledge of the whereabouts of my children I'm not responsible. Most parents know that their children are spending almost every single night at taverns, they failed to discipline their children and want to shift the blame to other people, most parents complained to me about their children who make noise after 00H00 midnight by opening loud volume of either TV or the radio while drunk from those taverns. Parents must resume their responsibilities and change their attitude of believing that someone else will teach discipline to their children. My children know that nobody comes home after 20H00 and nobody can wake-up to open the doors once locked. Most parents are being controlled by their children nowadays instead of taking the lead themselves. No, I refuse to blame other people before blaming myself. Where does my children get enough money to buy liquor if they are still attending school, as a parent I must demand answers from my children and also guide them.

You can't possibly blame the police for your failure to keep your children safe at home. I bet none of the parents called the police when they saw their kids not coming back home. A tragedy has now occured and our forever reactive society looks the blame the government. Be pro-active. Teach your children to sleep at home, teach them to abstain from alcohol until they reach an age of maturity. Very unfortunate, unprecendented and unpredictable.

That's not helping, lots of kids don't listen and they get influenced by friends. The power to discipline kids has been stripped away from parents by the government now every child knows they must not be hit by their parents and the parents don't want to go to jail for child abuse. Think about those things before you blame parents, yes there are careless parents but majority of parents don't want their kids doing these things but these kids run away from home and go do them. Are you gonna beat them to death when they come back the next morning? If these places didn't allow children in, the kids would have limited places to go and that's a major thing. When the kids have somewhere to go, it gives them motivation to do anything to be there. This generation of kids is not like the 90s kids.

Even if the child is there, you can go fetch them but chances are they will go back and keep going back until you are tired of it. Give parents credit because most parents do their best to warn these kids but they can't do it all on their own with the power that kid's have nowadays and the owners of these establishments not enforcing the age limit and the police not even doing check-ins at these places. South Africa is in the state it is because laws are made but not enforced. All kinds of crime are running rampage. Whether its understaffing, incompetence or corruption in law enforcement, there's no law in South Africa and things like these happen where there is no law and order. Underage drinking in the Eastern cape has become so normal, its tragic.
