Born East Finchley 1946..left 1965..if had a pound for everytime. stood on that station be a rich man..changed so much since I last used it..even the trains are different!!

they were planned to be in use for the northern heights plan, which was abandoned

@@kkccentral4663 yeah after 6 months of this comment, i managed to find out and realise that platforms 2 and 3 are actually now to and from highgate depot, but i never knew it was for the northern heights plan.

@@kkccentral4663 and sometimes in rush hour they send extra trains out and they collect passengers from platform 2, and then head to high barnet.

@@UR_mxga yeah it's pretty interesting. as quoted on the east finchley station wikipedia page: "For the introduction of London Underground services, the original station was completely demolished and rebuilt. The station was provided with two additional platforms, giving four in total. The platforms comprise two parallel islands with tracks on both sides. This was necessary as the intention of the Northern Heights project was that trains would be able to run south from East Finchley to Highgate via both the surface and the underground routes. The inner pair of tracks served the surface route, whilst the outer pair serve the tunnel route."
