East Arnhem Land to the Kimberley | Gove to Broome Road Trip

After seven months we are finally saying good-bye to East Arnhem Land. We will miss this amazing remote location, but I am sure we will be back! Three months on Elcho Island then another four in Nhulunbuy was still not enough. So where to now!? It's back to the West as we wanted to catch-up with some friends in Broome for Christmas then we are going to sweat it out in the north west for summer! This episode we travel in three days from Nhulunbuy to Broome!
Enjoy!
If you are heading up the Central Arnhem Road with a caravan, we recommend you make sure the below five things are checked off your list well before hitting the track.
1. Book your accommodation
a. Gove Boat Club: / goveboatclub or their new website (under development 2023) goveboatclub.com.au/ has power / water and is easily the best place to stay with a caravan in Gove.
b. Walkabout Lodge: walkaboutlodge.com.au/ if you cant get into the boat club, camping out the back (no power or water) but it is in the middle of town, good pub, but can get a bit rowdy.
2. Book your transit permit
a. Head over to www.nlc.org.au/apply-for-perm... and book for the days you intend to be on the Central Arnhem Road
3. Book your recreational permit
a. Head over to www.nlc.org.au/apply-for-perm... to book your permit for the time you are staying in East Arnhem Land (you need this to book camp sites!)
4. Book your camp sites (these book out early so don’t expect to get any of the good ones at the last minute as the locals will have already snapped them up)
a. Head over to www.dhimurru.com.au/visiting-... or
b. www.eastarnhemland.com.au/cat... if you want to book Cato - which is the only other site that allows caravans
5. Book your alcohol permit
a. Head over to nt.gov.au/law/alcohol/permits...
We also recommend having a read of this: www.dhimurru.com.au/uploads/8...
Safe travels. 😊

We must be getting old because the best we can manage in a single hit (in a truck, mind you) is five hours or so! Seven hours with three smaller humans on board is the stuff of parenting medals if you ask me. Don't show this comment to the kids, but if they behave well enough for stints like that it's gotta be worth Maccas every time 😂 Fantastic videos guys. We're thoroughly enjoying every instalment.

Haha, thanks guys! We would love to say it's down to our amazing parenting, but.... There is a considerable amount of ipad time consumed on these long drives! We try and do 50/50 educational then games. The boys love reading their kindles too, which helps. 🍻👍😀

Haha, she looks good from a distance, but once you get up close, the four years of punishment is very prevalent! We were just discussing that the van will need an epic clean when we get back down to Victoria later in the year! 🍻👍😄

Broome is a good spot to stay for a while. Having a gen is so handy for hot days and recharging it gives you more options.

17 hours! Epic, i dont think we could push that hard with the kids in the back. And doing three of them back to back, thats a huge three days in the saddle!

Nice, the water was so clear. Tania and I had a 200L in wall tropical tank way back. It hard to keep clean though! Would love to do a salt water tank, some time in the future! 😀👍

Wow, 7 months, has it been that long? I doubt we'll be able to get that amount of time up there (not much money, not much honey 🤣unless we get work along the way or make it big on the Tube! 😜). Love it!!

I’m guessing that you got out *before* the Vic bridge went under and the Hwy was closed. We’re in Yarralin and had to leave our rig and van in Katherine and fly into town. With two Samoyeds!🐾🤠🐾
