Easily Swap An Engine On A Toro Walk Behind Mower - with Taryl
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In "Taryl & Junior Dodge Skippy", Taryl goes over the proper ways to swap a 17 hp Kawasaki KAI Engine for a 17 hp Single Cylinder Briggs & Stratton engine that will also have electric start instead of rope start. Taryl goes over what you'll need to do in order to properly swap everything over. Prior to and after the fix, Taryl and Junior go to close up shop when they're greeted by local long-winded customer, Skip "The Second Guess Man". In an effort to dodge a 3-hour conversation the boys must manage to escape the show room for the house successfully. See how it all unfolds in another hilarious, yet informative how-to video from yur pals at Grass Rats Garage! And as always, There's Yur Dinner!!

@36:19 that clock made out of an engine shroud is awesome!!!
I admire your fabrication skills and your emphasis on safety too, your community have a gem for a small engine shop/dealer.
Its always great seeing an old machine been given a new life rather than just scrapping it like so often happens. This should give many more years of service at a fraction of a new mower.
The nut thread tool is fantastic. Thanks so much for showing it!!
You guys hit "shop Pests" and crappy customers dead on.!Same for the boat business lol
Great job on the turd polishing. It’s nice to see someone not throwing reusable parts away. Nowadays it seems like a throw away society. Great video guys!
I have the same engine. It also needed fixing when we got it, but it was worth the trouble. Great engine.
So glad the grass rats are back. Thanks to everyone who helped out in the downtime!
The single best entertainment channel on KZread. They are pretty good at lawnmower repair as well.
Thanks for always putting a smile on my face and making me laugh. I just love watching.
Love the humor and the info on this format. Keep the videos coming!
Greetings from central NC. Love all your videos, corn-ball and all. You have helped me over a number of hurdles in the last couple of years. Next going to try to swap out an engine on a Sabre. I really wanted to thank you for having the Muff-kinn visit on this chapter. Over the years, since 1983, we have had over 30 rescue cats live with us. We have five now from 4yrs to 15yrs. They are truly special gifts to us from God. Like an old sign I saw once said, "You are a nobody until you have been ignored by a cat".
Man you did a LOT of work for that customer !!! Wow you're very dedicated & produce high quality work. And re-enabling those safety fail-safes will probably save your customer personal injury or property damage. Plus you used used parts to save money (Wow again). Amazing !!!
When you were talking about tripping and the mower taking off I started hearing the song "I'm Looking Over My Dead Dog Rover." in my head. Then again I think "Forklift Driver Klaus" is the best safety video ever.
Taryl fixed all! A great job with some nice electrical detail too, watching that again, Including Skippy! thanks all👍
I think I will go back to school after seeing you in action. You are one sharp dude.I do small engine repair here in the Napa Valley and was thinking more of myself then I probably should.I will stick to the easy stuff for now.I'm doing 4 cycle only now mostley small mowers wood splitters, gens, etc. I always watch all of your videos. Thanks keep it up.
Tarrly you’re tha man! I just bought a exmark version of that mower with a blown up motor. I had a kohler 18hp courage to put on it. Got it bolted up and came into take a break from working on it and you got a video on how to do it. Was trying to figure out how to mount my battery and well, that’s figured out now ha. Just gotta figure out a muffler. Don’t have as many lying around as you Thanks 👍
In the automotive world we call that tool a Riv-nut tool.
Thanks Taryl and company and especially good ole Skippy!!
That's awesome. I did a motor swap on my scag walk behind a couple weeks ago. Went from a kawasaki 14 to a kohler pro 26. Love it. Few days a go I put a 15hp briggs on a toro 48" walk behind. Not as smooth as the scag but still pretty fun to play with. Love motor swaps. Love the channel.

This 17hp Briggs was the original engine on my Craftsman LT1000. It is now on my grandpa’s Craftsman YS4500. My Craftsman now has a 18hp Kohler 5400 series engine

I watched one of your videos awhile ago really helped me out. Now when ever I see one of your videos come up on my feed I have to watch it... even though I have no business with a toro mower. You guys are hilarious.
Amazing vid as always. Loving that fab job and when you show us tools that make the job easier!
Congratulations! We saw this project on our recent visit before any of the assembly had begun. Great job! wolf from Santa rosa ca.
Good job on the engine swap. Thank you for the detail you take in the making of your videos. Looks like your Grass Cats are getting big. Take s break and enjoy a Hamm's.
I have the exact same motor in my 2000 Scots S 1742.. It turned 20 years old this year. motor and riding lawn mower are going strong.. Routine maintenance and I just change the valve cover gasket as well I can not complain that is a great motor. like I said 20 years and still run in the strong.. Thanks for the video

Incredible work as always!
I enjoy your videos - both educational and humorous. I would put the fuel shutoff before the filter to make it easier to replace the filter. I'm in Merrillville and will have to stop by and visit one day soon. Merry Christmas my friend!
Educational and funny as always. Thanks Taryl.

Thanks a bunch for the safety switch lessons. We have two or three machines which came to us without safety controls. Need them back on before we can send them out to work.

Great to see you back keep keep up the work
Great job Taryl.👍🇬🇧
Man taryl you can polish a turd better than anyone, lol, thanks for the video!!! Always look forward to them.
Love your trouble shooting skeelz!. Learned a lot from this one!!!👍...Now there's your dinner! P.s. nice seeing you working with your son's!...also...u all are hilarious🤣
Good tip when you are jumping an engine like that it’s alway helpful to go ahead and hook up the red lead from your jumper cables and then use the ground to make your connection as when you use the red side you can definitely kill a good starter by melting the nuts on the post there. Good video guys I love how you always make comedy out of real life situations.
Great video Taryl keep em coming !
awsum job Taryl! really enjoy your vids
wow! nice video with lots of info...so much so, wish i could find a 'wiring' diagram' of the 'updated' wiring.... beautiful job... wish you could convert washing machines from the circuit board to just old school dials, too....made my Sunday so much better

I love the stripes on that kitty
nice swap Taryl we learn a lot everytime :)
that was a clean well done job thks
A lot of good info in this video.
Love the engine swapn Taryl! I have 1974 Dynamark rider that my father rode me around on as a child. It does have sentimental value. I've restored the deck with all new spindles and paint. Also, new front tires. The 8 horse Briggs with electric start is a leaker and the plug is discolored after 10 hours of use. My local shop has a new 11 horse short block with a warranty that might be just what that tractor needs. Is 500 bucks plus install insane? I love the tractor and a new engine would just about keep it going till I dont feel like cutting grass myself anymore. Was wondering what you thought. I'd love the leak to be the value cover and will look into it next time I decide to do something with it. Wish I knew how to add a pic to this post. I'm quite proud on how far its come.
it turned out good!
Great information
I love how Skippy laughs and the name elkskins, love it
alway great video and info thanks
That motor is like taking two steps back. Definitely not a commercial grade motor
Yep, those are some real good engines, I had a 14.5 hp that I ran for 20 years with absolutely no problem & decided to change it over to synthetic oil, & synthetic oil evaporates more than conventional "lesson learned" & ran it low & that was it.
I'm so glad you have been busy sir!!! but not having a video from you is like missing your meds. But as always great video.
