For those having trouble with this, try laying the thread on something firm but not overly so. I used the smooth side of a leather wallet. I tried using my hand for about 5 minutes with no luck. Was able to do this on my wallet in about 10 seconds.

If you still have trouble threading a needle then use a needle threader to assist you. Just keep the thread looped and pull needle through the loop so the thread wraps around base of needle.

I am glad this works for (it seems) everyone. This is to let those like me know they are not alone! I 've tried and tried. The thread slips away from the needle almost at once. Then the needle gets magnetised and picks the thread up. Tried moistening my skin but just made it more slippery. Mad scientist does it so fast. No way could I do it at that speed but anyhow it slips away before I can even start. I have already spent an age and feel totally discouraged. Maddened by the attempt!

My goodness! It worked! I had bought the dollar sewing kit, so tiny. I recommend starting The thread a little below the hole to get it going. It will work up its way to the hole. Took some doing. I tried the tiniest needle first, almost microscopic hole, spent only two minutes, and gave up. I went to the larger needle, though still a very super tiny hole, and it worked pretty quickly.

Here is another little tip I learned here on you tube. After you get the needle on the thread don’t slide the needle down on single strand of thread. Instead keep it up on the double strand of thread and pull the needle up through the back of the loop of thread and then gently slide thread down around the eye of the needle. The thread will not knot but just wrap around the eye of the needle. The benefit of this you can hand sew without the thread constantly coming out of the needle. Just think how much faster you can fix or do a hem or any kind of hand sewing.

Mad Russian Scientist Thanks for your answer. I must admit, that there is ONE hard part to it: Keeping the thread from sliding away as I rub it with the needle. So what I do, is laying the thread on my palm, just at the part before my fingers start, and tucking its end between my ring finger and my pinkie, to hold it in place. Thanks for pinning my comment with a ❤️ heart!
