You got to press hard when you rub.
For those having trouble with this, try laying the thread on something firm but not overly so. I used the smooth side of a leather wallet. I tried using my hand for about 5 minutes with no luck. Was able to do this on my wallet in about 10 seconds.

I think you guys need to try again. I have just tested this on a needle with a small eye that I have been unable to thread without a needle threader. Worked second attempt.
@victoriahannah1633

If you still have trouble threading a needle then use a needle threader to assist you. Just keep the thread looped and pull needle through the loop so the thread wraps around base of needle.

I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS WORKED! CAN SOMEONE PLEASE NOMINATE THIS GUY FOR A NOBEL PRIZE!
I am glad this works for (it seems) everyone. This is to let those like me know they are not alone! I 've tried and tried. The thread slips away from the needle almost at once. Then the needle gets magnetised and picks the thread up. Tried moistening my skin but just made it more slippery. Mad scientist does it so fast. No way could I do it at that speed but anyhow it slips away before I can even start. I have already spent an age and feel totally discouraged. Maddened by the attempt!

Update: Don't begin with a tiny needle; start with something bigger and the wee miracle might just happen - even for an 83 year old with dim eyes!
@Jenjen-qc5eq

Make sure your hands do not have moisturiser on, hold the needle at a slight angle upwards, not straight across the palm of the hand, keep the eye of the needle on the thread and don't be afraid to rub vigorously, let me know if it works.
If I could like this 140 times I would. I have one teeny teeny tiny needle and it worked! You have changed my life 🙌🏽

this does not work if u have cheap thread 🧵 I bought a $3 cheap tiny sewing kit & the thread isn’t as “stiff” as the thread in this video!! The cheap needles are also tiny. The combination of tiny needle hole + cheap thread = fail 🤷🏻♀️

My goodness! It worked! I had bought the dollar sewing kit, so tiny. I recommend starting The thread a little below the hole to get it going. It will work up its way to the hole. Took some doing. I tried the tiniest needle first, almost microscopic hole, spent only two minutes, and gave up. I went to the larger needle, though still a very super tiny hole, and it worked pretty quickly.

DAMN! It actually worked!!! I was stuck trying to thread my needle so came onto YT to look for a hack. As I watched the first hack I was sceptical as the eye was big (mine is tiny), then I watched the second one & was still doubting as his palm is moist & mine is very dry but I tried it AND IT WORKED!!! Thumbs up for this video! Thank you!
It works! Holy crap! I spent 15 minutes trying to poke the thread through the tiny hole in the needle to my sewing machine, and this trick worked immediately! I didn't even need to practice it. Awesome tip!

Holy cow....It really worked!! I did it with fine thread and a tiny needle....worked on the first try....THANK YOU so much!!
Here is another little tip I learned here on you tube. After you get the needle on the thread don’t slide the needle down on single strand of thread. Instead keep it up on the double strand of thread and pull the needle up through the back of the loop of thread and then gently slide thread down around the eye of the needle. The thread will not knot but just wrap around the eye of the needle. The benefit of this you can hand sew without the thread constantly coming out of the needle. Just think how much faster you can fix or do a hem or any kind of hand sewing.

Mad Russian Scientist Thanks for your answer. I must admit, that there is ONE hard part to it: Keeping the thread from sliding away as I rub it with the needle. So what I do, is laying the thread on my palm, just at the part before my fingers start, and tucking its end between my ring finger and my pinkie, to hold it in place. Thanks for pinning my comment with a ❤️ heart!

It didn’t work at all
the trick is to apply pressure and alot of it. Don't be the gentle push that hole down into your palm. The idea is to begin to shred and break down the thread until one stand catches that one strand that catches, just pull it through.
