I am originally from Australia and traveled on lots of really dusty roads, I found to stop dust you need to have a small opening at the front of the canopy, this then pressurized the inside of the canopy and stopped the dust that swirls at the back of the vehicle being sucked into the rear through any gaps.. the weather stripping and mat you installed will also help in that regard.

I used a pool noodle to block the dust and water from coming in.
One of the best systems i have ever seen! Simple and to the point!
The 6.5’ bed makes a difference. Good video and topper. a 5.5’ truck bed and a tall hunter has challenges.

Creating the right set up is always a challenge, it's nice to see you've sorted out one that works great for you. Mine now involves two tons of camper trailer.

😂 I love that
I like the cot! Love my 8’ bed for doing this, more room for coolers and gear. The weather stripping is a nice twist. Help keep out bugs as well.
Love the simplicity of your setup. Well thought out. Keeps your truck versatile.
Nice, simple and very mobile. Clean setup . I also used to have a slide in camper, but it was just too much back there that wasn't great for easy mobility. I sold it. I bought a cab high truck canopy and it's been great--easy in every way to get my stuff together and go. Great job 👍🏼⛰🗻🏞🌄
Great video 👍 That's an awesome cot 🤙 I have been through my fair share of cots and one of my complaints was how the legs were designed because I was typically utilizing cots in locations where that cross bar underneath was a hindrance to making it flush to a wall or whatever, so it causes you to take up unnecessary space in an awkward spot 😮💨. Thanks for sharing this, I am gonna have to check that out 🤙👍💯 Stay safe and well everyone much love to all ❤🤙✌️✌️
My setup is similar, but I use clear bins for ease of visibility and leave the tops off since they are inside. I use a milk crate to carry my 5 gal toilet, then at camp I flip it upside down to be my step stool to get in.
Only think you need is a tailgate assist! Best $15 I’ve ever spent to have the tailgate drop slowly when opening from the inside
well done. I agree the platforms people build are to cumbersome if you want to use the truck as a truck to haul. for my bed I use a roll-a- cot because it too straddles the wheel well but your cot with a mattress is much more comfortable. The cap with opening side windows is a real game changer I'm sure. Very nice.
Thanks for sharing. Looks like a nice setup.
Absolutely: the dust comes in from the gap under the tailgate. Great job on the cot.
Your truck hunting/camping set-up videos are excellent!
Great Job on the video Truck camp Thank you for sharing this great information your always trying to test and make changes God's Blessings on all your adventures
Awesome setup. I bring my Weber Q grill with stand and 20lb propane tank with griddle plate and a tiny 2200i super quiet generator for coffee, boiling water, lights at night, etc.
Sweet setup Jace!
Keep it Simple. Well done
Nice one bro. Like it!
love this setup
I did almost the same, but bed height a little higher to allow bins to slide out straight back easy. Add some paracord to pull out a second bin that’s stored at front of bed.
Yeah, i like that cot! Great find, good idea!

I've made a similar cot setup out of a piece of plywood and some PVC pipe. Has all the same advantages of being able to remove it super easily, but you can also customize the size/height/length of the platform.
Awesome!
Great setup, thanks for sharing. I don't get why almost all truck toppers only offer sliding windows. I do realize awning type(Arctic Tern) windows are much more expensive. But everything is more expensive nowadays and paying more for better quality has always been the case. Just seems the awning windows would shed water better while open during heavy rain. The Moonlander is one of the few Toppers that offers awning type windows as a choice in a buildout. But they aren't cheap Toppers. Love how simple yet completely functional and probably less expensive your buildout is. Safe and happy travels Sir.
Get a big bug net put it all over your whole truck 🙂

The large (3 leg) Roll-A-Cot works great in an 8' bed! Made a trip from WA to TX for a pig hunt last year. Easy to disassemble and very compact when not in use, but huge! I use a fabric covered foam mat from Cabelas, for mattress. Truck glamping. 😊

Do you have a link for the Home depot sleeping pad?
That's a great setup. I know because I had one like it in 2008 to 2011 for a GMC Sonoma small truck. Had the topper already on it and started thinking "Why can't a guy make a camping setup out of this?" The stackable totes work great. Unfortunately, the truck was a piece of crap. Had nothing but problems with it and got rid of it.
I like the camper . Easy to catch you just wait by the truck. Or the coffee shop?
Any way you could put out quick video on the disco bed modification thanks. I like this great idea

Each side has 3 pipes. You'd just have to hack some length from the middle pipe. It would take a few minutes b/c it is good quality metal. And you'd want to smooth it out with a rasp. And I assume he also cut the green canvas to make it a few inches shorter from head to foot. I own the discobed bunks. They're really well made. You can sleep directly on them, but a mattress pad does make it considerably more comfortable. I use a thin blow-up camp pad I got at Costco. The best thing would be to cut a 'memory foam mattress topper' to fit. Then no worries about your mattress getting a flat.
Cool
Great set up! Love the idea of the carpet for the insulation and dust factor but have my doubts about every day use. Too much of my stuff just gets tossed back in the bed of the truck, especially dirty oilfield coveralls. But then again, my Jeep has carpet and it gets tossed in there as well.
@JaceMcfetridge
Ай бұрын
Its not really like regular carpet. Very durable and and moisture wont cause it to mold. I throw muddy gear back there all the time and it is very easy to clean up. I was worried about getting it too dirty as well when I first got it but now I dont even think twice about it. If your on the fence Id recommend it, you wont be disappointed!

Ive had a BedRug in my 2500 for 5 years now. It comes with everything you need to seal out dust, plus velcro's into place & can be removed for cleaning if hou want. High pressure wash, etc. But mine has held up impeccably well. Resists dirt & stains. Easy to brush or vacuum. Special padding underneath the "rug" levels out the truckbed low spots/grooves & makes it easy on the feet or knees. Highly recommend.
Thanks for sharing. I was considering a popup but I think I'll go for a tall camper shell. How much food and water do you carry? I love your cot setup. Are you able to sit up straight?
@JaceMcfetridge
Ай бұрын
Food and water depends on length of trip. Usually always have a 5 gallon jug of water in my truck at minimum. I can sit up straight while sitting in the cot.
Those truck camper inserts are designed for 3/4 to 1 ton PUs not a half ton. The rear suspension on a half ton are not strong enough. No wonder it swayed from side-to-side.
I love these truck bed camp setups. But I’ve never figured out what you would do if you did manage to get an elk. Seems like you would still need to pull a small utility trailer to carry all the meat coolers.
@matthewholden3823
Ай бұрын
You only need two 110ltr coolers for an elk just one more additional to what he already has

Cool set up. You must be tall. I doubt I could reach over that bed well.
At 3:59 of the video it shows the Dis-O-Bed Single L cot at Public Land website for at $139.99. The link takes you to camping world and it is $199.99. What site did you get the cot from at $139.99?
Can a yeti 210 fit with the cot? My truck is similar with extended topper and the 210 fits perfect in there when you open it up.
@JaceMcfetridge

I dont know the 210 dimensions off the top of my head but I would imagine it should fit. For reference the cooler in this video is a 110.
I gave up and use a cabalas instinct 6 man tent for a basecamp.

What mattress pad do you have on the cot?
The disco bed says its 82” in length. I was wanting to get one for my Ram 2500 but was worried it would not fit. Its good to know you were able to modify it to fit! Great video! I love the simplicity of truck shells. I use mine a lot.
What mattress are you using?
Question....the legs on the cot in your truck look longer than the one in the link you provided. Did you change out the legs? or is it just an illusion in this video? The one int he link doesnt look like there would be enough room to stash a bin under it?
@JaceMcfetridge
Ай бұрын
Hi, the cot comes with leg extensions. If you scroll through the photos on the website you will see the longer legs. So you have the option to use it low or attach the extensions and get you up a bit higher.
Sweet setup. My only question is, where do you fit your gal?😂

Do you have bad frost/moisture on cold overnights?
@JaceMcfetridge

No I usually crack a window, unless it’s super cold then I use a diesel heater which helps mitigate any moisture
The only thing you need is a sunroof and a ceiling fan😀😀

what model Sthil is that?
Will the extra lg disco cot fit w/the Yeti?

What do you do for heat?
@timothymitchell4261

A couple of weeks ago, he made a video showing how he set up a diesel heater.
One issue with your slide-in camper is you are using it with a half ton pickup, you need to beef up the suspension with a half ton pickup, but I understand the simplicity of what you're using now.
@jimsomerville3924

Maybe, but it looks quite light. One for sale said 1300 lbs wet weight. F150s usually have pretty good payload capacity. So would depend on what/who else he is carrying whether going over GVWR of vehicle.
@DS-md7jn

@@jimsomerville3924 yes I agree, but with that much top heavy it's always going to ride better in a 3/4 ton or one ton.
