I just wasted 11 minutes of my life that I can back now watching this video.

I had the same Issue in my Bmw e60 530i 2004 m54 engine. It lost power at the time for a year. Then I started to have issues in the highway when I accelerate, it showed me the code p16a7 and the car went into safe mode. It was crazy after I shut off the engine it started again normally and the engine service light went off. That happened twice. Thank god I have a scan tool so I can be able to see the code. This happen a year ago, and I bought a cheap microscopic camera, and my cat seem the same like your video, but had more spot clogs. I replace 2 cats and the car was so powerful, ran amazing up to today. My car only has 112 thousand miles, I replace the cats last 10 thousand miles ago, it’s so rare that happen, I got everything up to date, all the maintenance, but it happen. Excellent video!! Nathan

I used Cataclean on my BMW 318i I had a fault code 3104 uneven running (NOx sensor) put one bottle in my tank but the code came back after two weeks put one more bottle in the tank and the code never came back car runs smooth now.

Unless he is in STL part of mo, missouri doesn't have smog testing. Much easier to just gain the benefits of clearing out the cat and move on.

Did you try Lacquer thinner it see if it would help? Scotty recommends it, or take the Cat off and soak in Soap and water. Let us know? Foulers don't fix the problem but does get you through the emissions.

I think you can put a pressure gauge in the O2 port and measure back pressure. A little more investment you can get a pressure transducer that fits the spark plug opening and record compression, and exhaust pressure. Great camera and good video. Cheers!

Nathan, any safe brand of aftermarket cats for bmws?

Its much better to use a pressure gauge , by the gauge you can know what's wrong with the converter

Pull both o2 sensors put light on one end and see if the light shines through. Poor a gallon of acetone in the tank. Drive fir and hour or two.

Change your cameras focusing point to focus on the center I think that might help you

He needs to change his camera system . This system is expensive and gives poor quality view. A $25 snake camera I have gives crystal clear view , I hook it's USB to my laptop.

So so what was the verdict of your catalytic converter below threshold I just got done putting in two cats and then the last 6 months now I'm getting a 420 what can cause this I know it could be a misfire spark plugs but I got just need your help for this one

After my e46 had a major issue about a week ago I just bit the bullet and may or may not end up regretting it, I got a 2010 335i already has stage 2 turbos FBO, and a time and is pushing 525hp. Figured why not since it’s in emasculate condition, has full maintenance history, and only has 88k miles.

BMW Outlet yea, aftermarket hoses, aluminum radiator, aluminum expansion tank, Aftermarket intercooler, DCI, Aftermarket charge pipe, after market exhaust, pure stage 2 turbos, and JB4. Wouldn’t say $11,000 was too bad.

Jeff Nash ended up getting another 335i about a week ago 2008 Sedan DocRace 6466 kit, Custom tune.

have a subaru, 1998 mod. with new engine only 10 000 km. drove back from stokholm sweden to bodø, 130 km\t for 17 ouhr, straith, in 3-400 rpm, after that car worked 50% bether on all rpm. Some say just add 85% alcohol 1-2 liter in haf a tank and drive hard on 3-4000 rpm for 3-4 ouhrs, and then catalyst is clean, Does it work ?? anywone.??

What camera did you get?

Are you going to inspect the rear one?

Where's the cleaning in the "Easiest Catalytic Converter Cleaning And Inspection !!!" - I only saw inspection by camera (which is a good tool).

Actually, back in the day, before GM bought all the rights, it was first called "Oldsmobile Converter" and that is what it was called for decades. Today it's known as the "Cadillac Converter." Same part. Same function. Different name.....

Trying to get the part number off my 07 bmw 328i catalytic converter, one coming off engine. All i can read On it without taking alot off is 665071 but i think im missing numbers in front of it. I figure it was a 7 but i cant find anything matching part number. I found the rear ones bur cant find the one coming off engine. Help is appreciated, thanks!

The scope light is too bright, the inner exhuast surface is reflecting the light. Try improvise a camera hood to cut the reflection then you should see the colour.

If it failed, replaced it. Trying to clean a catalytic converter is pointless, it doesnt always fix the issue. The metal inside the waffle cone breaks down so it's no longer working properly. Cleaning it doesnt mean it's fixed only that it's now clean and water a lot of time. Even the product CataClean doesnt work long. It will help you pass emissions but wont make the issue go away as long as just sucking it up and replacing the failed part...

Replacement wont help either. Cats dont just go.bad if a cat does bad it means you have another problem and the new cat will go bad too

I had the idea that a catalytic converter working at 96% efficiency will throw a code. With that in mind, cleaning it to eliminate some carbon-clogged mesh screens to get back to 98% or 99% seems worthwhile. Honestly asking here. Am I wrong? And I'm talking about removal, cleaning, and re-installation. Not pouring some sort of additive into the fuel tank at make the cat burn hotter to "clean" itself.

@@jeffreynash5236 when a catalytic converter fails it's for a reason, cleaning them does not always resolve an issue. So for the amount of time being wasted removing them, some not so simple to do, its easier to just replace the part and eliminate the issue or wasted time to do it a 2nd time. Professional experience.

@@kid5042 people who run their cars improperly are more prone to failed catalytic converters, example - random misfire or any misfire from bad coils or spark plugs. Running improper fuel, egr issues, carbon build up on the valves. Usually a vehicle running improperly for a long time can most commonly cause major failures if they are not fixed properly. Unspent fuel dumping into the catalytic converter that was not ignited in the piston chamber due to failed spark plugs or other is also a known reason for failure.

@Jeffrey Nash it could even be an electrical issue causing it, if it stays off for over 50 miles it will pass, if you say it stays off for 3 tanks of gas then pops up, check fuel injector for that side of the bank cylinder also

You could make a few extra bucks doing colonoscopy stuff with that.
